I am just so impressed to see girls studying alongside boys in KP:

I guess Imran Khan's party did bring some changes to that part of Pakistan.

.
People criticize KPK, but need to realize that province was hard hit and still suffering due to terrorism. TTP blown away hundreds of schools. Still lot of no go zones. People easily criticize but give a solution and help these children through private agencies. If no trust on govt.
Not people but noonies. They are from a different specie.

Shangla’s Basi area has no girls school

SHANGLA: The people of Basi village of Alpuri tehsil have demanded the government to establish a primary school for girls in the area. They said that majority of girls of the village, which had a population of 15,000, were deprived of education.

“Majority of the people here are coalmine labourers, but unfortunately there is no primary school for their girls,” said a resident Tahirullah. He said that some people sent their children to a private primary school. However, their children also had to quit education after the fifth grade, as there is no private or government middle school in the nearby areas.

When contacted, sub-divisional education officer Aurangzeb Khan said that hundreds of girl students were deprived of education due to lack of primary, middle and high schools for girls in the entire area. He said that the valley needed a girls school and the local people also wanted to enrol their girls for education.

Kohat hospital short of equipment

KOHAT: The administration of KDA teaching hospital has not bought a single machine or equipment since upgradation of the facility in 2017.

An official estimate made available to this correspondent said that in 2017 a competent provincial authority had approved Rs179 million for the upgradation of the hospital and purchase of machinery for its trauma and burns centers. However, after lapse of one year no machinery had been bought.

About 60 posts of specialists, surgeons and medical officers were also lying vacant for the last several years.

Members of a social organisation have been staging weekly protests to draw the attention of authorities to lack of facilities in the hospital. They said that despite its upgradation the patients with head injuries, heart ailment and bullet injuries were being referred to Peshawar, which was a clear proof that the hospital was not a Category-A facility.

An official of the hospital, Rashid Bokahri, claimed that former MS Mohammad Ali Chohan was about to make purchase of the needed equipment, but he was transferred.

Mr Bukhari said he was not aware of any such grant of Rs179 million released to the hospital by the provincial health department.

PTI Plunges KPK Into Loans Of Trillions - Rs. 3 trillion debt

PTI-plunges-750x430.jpg

PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has plunged the province into loans of around Rs3 trillion, which would take nearly 40 years to return.

KPK Deputy Information Secretary Shaukat Yousufzai has said the need arose as the Centre would not disburse funds to the province on time. He added they would pay back the loans by generating money from projects for which the funds have been borrowed.

However, the loans are said to burden the people of KPK as they would be paid back over decades to come on a markup of 0.6-2%.

The PTI government has taken loans of nearly Rs3 trillion. Out of the amount, nearly Rs99 billion is for three projects, including the Bus Rapid Transit scheme in Peshawar.

The PTI government borrowed Rs41.88 billion from Asian Development Bank for BRT alone, while the remaining approximately Rs57 billion were being spent on electricity, schools, solarisation of basic health units and Pehur High Level Canal in Swabi.

Other than the received amount, the documents state that the incumbent provincial government is waiting on around Rs2 trillion for 10 other projects from organisations, including World Bank and Asian Development Bank.

It is said that PTI borrowed five times more money than the previous government — of Awami National Party in KPK — did. The ANP government borrowed approximately Rs21 billion during their tenure in 2007-2013.

However, the PTI information secretary said loans taken in the past went to people’s pockets instead of being spent on development work.

K-P to pay Rs15 billion interest on BRT loan

Imran Khan & PTI always talked against foreign loans & national Debt, and the debt taken by PMLN govt...., i say thats nice..., we, all of us are also against foreign loans, they (PTI) also talked against 'Jangla Bus', now just look at their own action..., they took loan with high interest rate for a project they criticised for almost 4 years ...plus they are taking a debt of around whooping Rs. 3 trillion, this is called hypocrisy, this called double standard...

They say, action speaks louder than words... Now what does that mean?
That there is no Change, only an eye wash....

Now Information Secretary Shaukat Yousufzai says that centre 'would not disburse funds to the province on time', its for me Uzr-e-Gunah Badtar Az Gunah, its a constitutional matter right... why not KPK govt. took this matter to parliament and senate? why not in mushtarka mufadaat council, it was an open and shut case if the KPk govt had took that matter into supreme court cuz its constitutional responsibility of centre to disburse funds on time...plus why they kept quiet for almost 5 years and didn't took the matter into public domain like Panama case or rigging issue?? it was right of the KPK people if centre was delaying funds, then it was a constitutional crime... why KPK govt didn't took any concrete steps, so for me, i think he is lying...

This province does not even have a functional NAB.

Expecting educational reforms from such a province is like saying PMLN government would invest in Renewable Energy in Pakistan.

PESHAWAR: The cash-strapped University of Peshawar has issued a cry for help, warning that unless the federal and the provincial governments provide it with financial support, the varsity cannot deliver.

This was stated by University of Peshawar Vice Chancellor Asif Khan as he handed out laptops under the Prime Minister’s Laptop scheme. Around 220 laptops were distributed among masters in philosophy (MPhil) and doctorate in philosophy (PhD) students of different departments of the university.

He complained that the university had been serving students using its own resources, without financial support from the government.

He appreciated the federal government’s efforts for supporting students through different programmes such as the National Internship Programme, the laptop scheme, PM Reimbursement schemes and urged to federal and provincial government to financially support the university.

Adviser to the Prime Minister Engineer Ameer Muqam, who was the chief guest at the laptop distribution ceremony, urged students to focus on their studies at this stage in their careers. He assured the varsity’s administration that the federal government will support them. He said that in the upcoming budget, the federal government will support the University of Peshawar and will work to fulfil its requirements.

Waste disposal: Government given 30 days to come up with new plan

PESHAWAR:The provincial government has been given a month to devise a proper plan for the disposal of waste in the provincial capital.

In case of failure, the court warned that the chief secretary would have to appear before the bench in person and explain the reasons.

A two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) comprising Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan and Justice Muhammad Ayub was hearing writ petition filed by Advocate Misraf Khan, who is seeking orders against the Water and Sanitation Services, Peshawar (WSSP) and the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government for properly disposing of waste collected from across the city in residential areas of Khazar Khawani.

Misraf argued that the provincial government was not serious in setting up a proper sewage treatment plant despite the fact that land for it had been acquired along the Ring Road a long time ago.

Pakistan orders 29 INGOs to leave country within 60 days

“Successive governments have never been serious in solving environmental issues,” Justice Qaiser observed.

Dr Bashir Khan, the director general of the K-P Environment Protection Agency, appeared before the court to explain the extent of environmental degradation faced by the city owing to the lack of proper waste disposal measures.

Dr Bashir pointed out that there were a number of ways for recycling waste, including power generation, composite waste disposal and others. However, the K-P government has done nothing on the ground nor does it have a proper plan for it.

“They are putting waste and other waste, collected from the city into a treatment plant which was designed for water treatment,” the provincial EPA chief said.

He added that the government has now decided to set up a waste disposal plant located far from the city. However, he said that there will be some environmental issues if the plant is built but it can be mitigated by planting trees and some other measures. Justice Qaiser strongly criticized the WSSP’s role in this regard. “You people are not even ready to help the people on this issue, so what is the WSSP for?” he asked.

Charsadda residents collect donations for repairing ambulance

PESHAWAR - In an embarrassing move for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the people of Charsadda started collecting donations for repairing out-of-order ambulance of District Headquarters Hospital and for installation of water cooler in the hospital premises.

The organisers, who have started the activity as a protest, said that the patients visiting the hospital had to suffer due to out of order ambulance and unavailability of drinking water in the health facility.

The residents set up a collection point at Farooq-e-Azam Chowk where they are seeking donations from people for repair of the ambulance at a cost Rs100,000. They said that the donations collected in the camp would be handed over to deputy commissioner. They said that the move would continue till improvement of the sorry state of affairs at the hospital.

Criticising the KP government, they said that it looked like repair of ambulance and provision of other facilities was a too big task for the health department. Therefore, we decided to collect donations for the purpose, they said. No official from the hospital administration was available for comment.

Meanwhile, doctors’ protest at the DHQ Hospital continued for 2nd day on Saturday. The Out Patient Department remained locked due to which the patients had to suffer a lot. The doctors initiated strike after protest by relatives of a child on Friday who died at the hospital due to alleged negligence of the doctors.

Faiz Khan, a local journalist, said that the ambulance was out of order for the last 6 months and there was no one to repair it. Later, the local jirga decided to repair the ambulance by collecting donations.

He said that some of the amount was collected when the district nazim intervened in the matter and later decided to repair the ambulance from the district funds.

However, the KP Health Department instantly responded on social media. There are always two sides of a story. Out of six ambulances, five are currently functioning and one requires repair, it said.
