US will need approval from UNSC to sanction Pakistan and we know any such move will be vetoed by China. I agree with you sanctions may hit Pakistan worse than Iran but the possibility is low.

@war&peace Please refer to Pak reserves and work out how long they would last in case of contingency. This time there would be no foreign exchange accounts to plunder like NS did back in 1998.

i will not go much in to deep since we all know very well .. that what we are .. its not the same america and Pakistan is not the same country anymore. dragon is rising up from east and after the south china seas ruling in international court of justice which went against china and already china has rejected it, Pakistan has become more important for china than ever before and i m out of time now wont argue about it anymore

What short and medium term solution would you propose for Pakistan. As I see it the country is hanging on a thread which can be cut by the 'powers that be' anytime they wish. Are there really any measures that can save the country for the time being?

Is there any way to prevent Pakistan from becoming the next North Korea or even worse?
My two cents:
1)I myself believe that the most important step would be the rejuvenation and diversification of the economy. Exports should be increased while imports should be reduced.
2)Pakistan's energy security should be strengthened.( eg Agreements with neighboring countries
for uninterruptible supply of oil and/or gas.)
3) A complete overhaul of the foreign office.(We don't even have foreign minister,yet)
Work should be done to improve bilateral ties with other countries in all spheres and especially
trade.

I think we have good relations with Europe (UK, Germany, etc)....How would they react if US decides to impose sanctions on Pakistan? And what about Middle Eastern friends? Turkey? China?

Pakistan is not going to bend so easily. Our foreign policy seems to be independent now....No more unfair pressure should be welcomed....Enough is enough.....

i say Just One Step Separate Islam and Pakistan , whenever islam in all government deptt there may be no bribry, islam is very strict regarding performance of duties,

non of it will work ... coz they have sanctioned Pakistan many time every one knows about it .. for instance back in 1998 Pakistan was sanctioned, almost bailed out by sudies later and it survived successfully, started developing its own military industry, jets .. tanks etc. so ..only Pakistani people (politicians etc) can destabilized it, no external threat can destabilized Pakistan

Most destructive would be attack on ideology of Islamic welfare state, for which we Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashtun, Baloch, Kashmiris are united, Otherwise a Pashtun have more to do with Afghans then with Sindhi, Punjabis and Baloch, a Punjabi have more in common with Sikhs and Paharis then any Sindhi, Pashtun etc..a Sindhi have more in common with south Punjab then another, same goes with other ethnic groups too...

Islam bind us stronger.. Secularism, ethnic, regional politics is recipe of disaster as it proved in 1971.

Even now most Pakistani rate ethnic political groups as traitors, whether we talk about MQM, ANP, PKMAP or Baluch Nationalists..

Pakistan owes much to china for its survival. Undo China can easily undo Pakistan which infact cannot happen in near future and china is one of the oldest civilization. AS for China, Pakistan is to china just like israel is to usa. so no one can undo till china is there.

I think sanctions and all, will not destabilise a country like Pakistan.. Pakistan have already experienced many sanctions, like how India did and had lived through it, one way or other.. the only way to destabilise Pakistan is to deny peace in its civil society, and feed them with Hatred and lies among each other.. That is the only way a country like Pakistan can be destabilised.. Just my view point..
