Sri Lanka Police gets Mahindra Scorpio Jeeps

They look good but I really doubt their relevance in police work. Qualis,Tavera,Thar and Scorpio are chosen as you can cram more criminals and police escorts together. Not the case with the accent.
BTW I was there in Chennai for a year, Given the kind of revenues Chennai makes it's really underdeveloped as compared to other metros (don't compare Kerela). I doubt those kick backs have been actually put into use for public development.

Underdeveloped in what sense? like glass buildings and malls? I have stayed in Mumbai and Delhi..I would pick chennai any time for settling down. It has good infra, low crime rate, less people and is the hub of south entertainment.

What i can do or get in mumbai or Delhi, I can do in chennai. ( except dance bars )

For packing criminals, there are police buses. How many times have you seen criminals being packed in jeeps ( in real life )

With no disrespect meant for Chennai police, cars are not suitable for police work in India.

how is it not suitable? Chennai police has done an excellent work with these cars with no complaints at all.

Cars may be good around city, but what if chasing criminal requires a little off roading. Also Indian roads are not world renowned for their smoothness.

Cars can carry a maximum of 5 policemen(including driver) while Mahendra Invader can carry 6 and Scorpio can carry 8-9 policemen. You have to come in more than one car or carry less policemen if you are planning to arrest a criminal, if you are not planning to put him in the trunk. There would be reason why other than Chennai police, no other police force is interested in cars.

I'll address the vehicle part first. I cannot possibly count how many times I have seen people being crammed cause I have seen them all my life. IIf you notice the CM's motorcade in Chennai itself, or that of karunanidhi near the Sun TV office next time, count the number of Accents escorting them. Out of the usual 12 car motorcade which leaves barely 2 will be accents for the same reason I mentioned above.
As for Chennai,Delhi and Mumbai arguement. I cannot count the number of upperclass malls and Multiplexes in Mumbai or Delhi.
In Chennai:
Malls: Spencer, City Centre, Express Avenue,
"Good"Multiplexes: Sathyam, Sathyam at Express Avenue,1 PVR,1 Inox, 1 Mayajaal.

No meters in autorickshaws. No Skyscrapers. No Wine shops except Tasmac. Around 5 discos.
And yes,if you speak anything other than Tamil you cannotinteract with 90% people.

@ bolded part, there is no offroading in cities..suburban chennai has bolero and qualis.

You mean to say chennai has difficulty in catching criminals because of cars..absolutely not. Chennai has been catching criminals and there are even encounters also..What does it matter if police come in 1 car or 10 cars. All these cars are connected ( network centric ). These cars allows them to cover more area in less time with less personal.

If patrolling is effective crime rate itself will come down.

I agree with you on all points especially Autos:D..but then we have efficient bus service.

You were saying no bars? you got to private bar in Mumbai delhi or chennai..you pay the same rate for beer. There is only Tasmac because it is the law. No skyscapers? that is flawed way of judging good city. What if chennai does not need skyscappers?

As for Malls..the shear no of people in other metros, for them more malls are needed. Eg In Delhi, we have palika bazar..It is so huge, 5 spencers can be accomodated inside..but what i can get in palika, I can get in spencers too.

As for Satyam cinemas...It can be compared to one of the bests in India.

Even beaches, chennai beats any other metros.

So How can you say chennai is underdeveloped wrt to the population it has?

Agree with Sathyam :). But seriously dude you need to see the amount of money coming in. Like you said Chennai doesn't have the kind of population problems Mumbai has. Also it does not have a communist government like Kerela or WB (for past 30 yrs at least). Every Major Auto Major, Banking back office and major IT co's are there. Yet the city scape is comparable to Indore or Chandigarh.
I'm saying Chennai could've been developed leagues ahead of what it is right now. Just that all the moolah is going into 2 pockets.

Chennai police has the best vehicles..

Sri Lanka police do use hyundai cars, it is difficult to identify those on the road. I think they need to use different colour scheme for them too.

You cannot compare chennai to Chandigarh..chandigarh is new and planned city..nor it can be compared to Indore, as that would be unfair to 2 cities. Chennai has been growing for the past 15 yrs only. Where are the so called Auto, banking and IT in mumbai and delhi? they are out side the city eg Gurgaon, noida in case of NCR. Pune in case of bombay region. All these outside cities are new and have glitzy buildings. Similarly IT companies are also outside chennai, in OMR road, where you can find modern buildings.

Bombay and Delhi have huge population so they are divided into Old delhi and new delhi. Mumbai and navi mumbai. In case of chennai, population is low so no division. What i am saying is that demand of population is less in chennai, so you cannot compare glitz and glamour of Delhi and mumbai with chennai.

Since you have lived in chennai, where have you found chennai lacking in infa??

I was there in chennai for four years. I will differ what another guy was telling that Chennai is lagging in development. I want to tell you i thought it was one of the fastest developing metros of India. I saw how fast they were building over bridges, the marine drive beautification was something done in no time. Induction of new buses under JNNURM was impressive. The clover leaf shaped over bridges in Guindy and the new one coming up at CMBT was done so smoothly.

I think the DMK did great to get these cars from Hundayi. Also, I have never seen ISO certified police stations until I land up in Chennai.
