Sri Lanka may stop preferential trade with India

They aligned with the USA, why would anyone align with an impoverished and corrupt nation ?

Whats there to benefit from ?

They can align with who ever they want, but if they think that they can piss off India by providing bases for foreign countries, they will have another war in their hands.

Indians, please think before you write your post in anger. You come across as bullies, simply because of India's size.
If you are from maldives or bangladesh nobody will be so angry with you.

If standing for justice is bullying...so be it.

If you are right and sri lanka is innocent than why are you scared from Investigate it? Why not you open heartly welcome it and prove yourself Innocent? Sri lankan action prove that she done something wrong otherwise she had no problem.

Thatz a good question. One country's law is the law applying in that country. Supreme court is the highest level what we have in SL, If army killed innocent civilian then anyone can case a file in our courts, if thousands and thousand got killed why who telling those things unable to make a list of at least thousand of names? There are cases against unwanted arresting ect, those Tamils have gone to court.

There were no bases and are no bases. There were and are only limited services.

Sri Lanka survived this adventure of Indira, and doing rather well despite being at odds with India.

India went bankrupt as a rusult of the overall policy practiced by successive Governments. The reforms that came in 1992 onwards were not a product of self-realization or awakening, it was shoved down by IMF.

I am curious what India gained from this adventure ? If nothing was gained, why keep walking the same path in circles ?

First you have to understand difference between territorial water and border between two countries .. But I know its hard for you
So what does EEZ/Territorial water serve as ? Sea border right ? Or you have an alternate theory about that ? :P ... Do you think that borders only exist on land ?

Save your threat, typical Indian bully style.

If you look at your criminal aggressions of all kinds in the last 60 years, maybe a Chinese naval base is the absolute garantee for peace and prosperity of SL.

This subcontinent can not be ruined by India hawkish play for another half century.

I like to know the answer to this. Did Sri Lanka not win it's war against the Tamil terrorists with Indian military hardware and some actual military support?

Where did you read that ? ... Is it some alternate version of history ? :azn: ... We all know what happened to IPKF in Sri Lanka and its after effects on Indian politics ...

Exclusive economy zone in not served as "sea border" but a Under the law of the sea, an exclusive economic zone (EEZ) is a seazone over which a state has special rights over the exploration and use of marine resources, including production of energy from water and wind.

 Genius , doesn't that exclusive right mean sovereignty and the limit to that EEZ "a sea border " ? :azn:

Comprehension problems much ? I asked you " What does the IA , IN do with people illegally crossing their borders ? Now that can be Air Border , Land Border or Maritime Border ...

What is so hard to understand about sea borders for you ? :azn:

Kachchatheevu is within the Sri Lankan EEZ and Indian Fishermen have no right to fish there ... Close borders make no difference to the sovereignty of a country ... Will you allow SL fisherman in your waters just because they are close ? :azn:

Ownership of this island by then Ceylon has been recorded even in 1920's. It has belonged to Sri Lanka since India ceded the island in 1974. Under the treaty agreement of 1974, Indian fishermen do not have rights to fishing around the island as it is within the territorial waters of Sri Lanka. With the 1976 agreement where delimitation of International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) was agreed upon as required by the UNCLOS, Indian fishermen do not have any right to even engage in drying of nets and use of Church in Kachchativu as 1976 agreement supersedes 1974 agreement.

I think you dint read your source fully

This tensions and the alleged killings of Tamil fishermen (where not a single incident proved beyond doubts) created a diaspora in and across India and the governments of both the countries held conversation and finally the Sri Lankan government allowed a full access term to Indian fishermen till Jaffna Line and released the fishermen jailed for a while.

Or you left it behind because of some special purpose ?????

So its not the matter of EEZ ... understand
