ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The son of Nawab of Bahawalpur on Monday called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and announced to join the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Nawab Bahawal Abbasi expressed confidence in the leadership of the prime minister.

PTI South Punjab President Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar brought the main pillar of South Punjab to PTI. He is likely to get even bigger politicians to join PTI in the coming days.

According to sources, Nawab Bahawal Abbasi holds an important position in the politics of South Punjab.

This is bad news for PMLN and PPP. If Sourthern Punjab leaders still back PTI for 2023 elections, than PTI may well win again. Nawab of Bhalwalpur easily have influence over 6-7 seats in South Punjab.

Anything to do with SP province?

Nawab of bhalwarpur wants distict of Bhawalpur to become a separate province itself though PTI backs one single Southern Punjab having Multan as its capital. Even if bhawalpur is not made as another province, he might have been assured of serious powers in near by future when it comes to SP politics.

A suba should be made where power of land owning class is as limited as possible or else sp is another interior sindh All over again

Nothing just political gimmick and more power/resources/money after 18th ammendment.

Actually it was PMLN who floated two Southern Punjab provinces idea rather than one to divide Southern Punjab politicians and essentially bulldozing any move of splitting Punjab. PTI and PPP backs one South Punjab province scenario only. PMLN was banking on the idea that Bhawalpur politicians will always oppose one South Punjab province proposal rather than two. In this way, they can get some political support from Southern Punjab as well where they have been traditionally weak as compared to central Punjab. But now situation gets interesting as Nawab of Bhalwalpur (essentially entire district of Bhawalpur ) backs PTI which means that they and PTI have reached to some conclusion regarding future of Southern Punjab.

But waseeb province will have 2 karachis.. multan and bahawalpur. Both are well developed.

Historically Southern Punjab new province proposal wasn't that luractive until 18th ammendment in 2010 kicks in. More financial resources/more autonomous power with this ammendment. Obviously who doesn't want it. Multan or Bhalwalpur won't need to get dictated from Lahore than. They will directly get money from Islamabad and will have their own administrative powers once a new province is formed.
