Having said that I would tend to believe there is some nuclear fallout that Russia is hiding.

There may be some fallout but mostly restricted to Russian territory. People always over exaggerate any incident related to nuclear technology. However, fallout at ranges beyond 2000km is fiction even beyond Hollywood absurdities.
