According to what I see I think it is the J11A or B. Ground attack as specialization hence the training with the Mirage pilots (ground attack) of Pakistan.

Pakistan has not disclosed details about the types of aircraft involved, the missions performed, the location of the exercise, or the total number of personnel involved. The only official image shows 24 officers, 12 Pakistani and 12 Chinese.

The exercise took place over two weeks in March. The exercise is aimed at sharing mutual experiences, honing professional skills and accruing maximum benefits from the expertise of the two air forces, said a statement issued by the PAF.

The Su-30MKI is superior to all Flankers short of the J-11B in PLAAF service. It is difficult to compare the MKI to the J-11B however, due to their relative advantages in different areas. The Su-30MKI is about 20% heavier, and features an engine with slightly less powerful dry(non-afterburning) thrust, thus giving it a slightly lower thrust-to-weight ratio. Furthermore, the Su-30MKI also has about 8 times the radar-cross section of the J-11B. In terms of radar, the Su-30MKI has a clear advantage, and the MKI still retains a slight advantage in avionics despite major improvements to China's indigenous avionics industry. The MKI is also more maneuverable at subsonic speeds, though the J-11B has a superior climb-rate and better acceleration.

Is the superior mki subsonic maneuverability due to the forward canards and tvc? Could they not be added to the j-11b?

You can see the top edge of the vertical stabilizer is slanted, that means it's a Su-27UBK.

so PAF pilots got hands on experience with flankers,which also happen to be the cream of IAF. Interesting.

TVC can be done but Canards are not plug-and-play. It requires some airframe changes to counter the turbulence created by an additional control surface.
