To be fair, India has a 'paid' media, just as we do. There is no such thing as free media.

I agree,,,,,but there are diff channels based on who paid the media

bot govt and opposition parties pay the media.......so they generally cancel out

It'd be wonderful if dead pigs are the number one problem for Mumbai.

It won't be.

You see, with over 60% of Mumbai's population living in slums, and rapes and sexual harassments occurring daily, dead pigs suddenly don't sound so terrible, do they?

Well, if everybody in the "slum" has a color television, refrigerator and even internet ... dead pigs do sound terrible.

Well, even without all these ... dead pigs would have still sounded terrible. It wasn't 1 or 10 or even 100 ..... more than 12,000 !!

It bothers me to see India do so terribly, not just when compared to China,

You are embarassing us ... we have much more to achieve.

but when compared to just about any country.

India has its own pluses and minuses, like every other country.

We don't consider ourselves superior to others.

Neither inferior, for that matter.

Same with China.. it's just another country .. not superior to us .. neither inferior.

I really wish to see India do well, but frankly, both from an investor point of view, and from the point of view of a human being, India is heading toward a very gloomy, dystopian future.

India is heading towards progress ... those who don't want to participate in our progress, can keep out.

India is a huge part of mankind .. one-fifth to precise. It is a micro-earth. And a mirror of mankind ... both achievement and problems of makind.

The tragedy is that all this could have been avoided had India made the necessary social and infrastructural investments when the economy was doing well, but India frittered away every opportunity it had so that now it's heading for a complete economic collapse.

replace India with USSR or China.. and your statement starts resembling truth.

Will social collapse follow economic collapse? I really hope India can pull through, but if you live in India, I pray for your wellbeing.

Save some prayers for PRC too ... they need it a bit more. And we wish they demise peacefully like USSR, not violently like Nazi Germany.

Please pray for them.. and for innocent chinese, living under CPC rule.

Man read my posts .....i am the last person to glorify things but the dharavi slum in mumbai is indeed like this.
Even if the govt builds flats for them,they don't move out and give those flats on rent!!.Its fucked up ****

If you get a chance, you have to visit Shanghai.

However, my favorite city is still my hometown of Chicago. No dead pigs there.

Hey I found these videos on youtube. If Mumbai can look like this, then dead pigs are acceptable.

Trust me if you take a longshot camera view ... say from 16,000 feet above ... dead pigs will look the most beautiful design pattern.

That sums up the problems of both PRC and Shanghai.

Most chinese would anyday prefer a safe milk powder for their newborn babies, to "longshot pictures" of some Shanghai in which they don't live in !

Heck, even if you live in "that" Shanghai... the milk powder is more important than the "longshot pictures".

True, except I was there in person, on the ground and walking about. Guess what, I prefer Shanghai over New York.

Sorry. I can't risk travel to Shanghai.. I have a newborn baby.

Not even HongKong .. actually. Bloody air pollution.

If you have a baby.. atleast carry your baby food sufficient for entire trip. The thing that puts me off is that you can't put masks on babies, they don't like it. (big reason, why travel to PRC is out of question .. for next few years, at least).

I live in Singapore, before that in Mumbai .... sure, Singapore is better than Mumbai in many ways .. but Mumbai has its own pluses, for my next job location.. education in international schools s*cks for foreigners. One of my colleagues, relocated his both children and wife so that they kids could study in a Mumbai convent... and manage to avoid "singlish".

The air pollution problem will be with the Chinese for a long, long while. Too bad that Hong Kong is being affected so much.

China's manufacturing dependence and its dependence on coal fired power is one reason why there is so much of pollution in China. That said, it is a REMINDER to India that if manufacturing is to be the bane in God-knows-when, our energy sources need to be addressed first. As it is pollution in India is terrible (just descend into Indian air space just as Chinese and you will see the thick layer of pollution rising in teh horizon.. kid you not).

It is high time India learns the lessons from China about industrialisation and pollution - and the problems that it would bring on a larger scale. In China's case, there is a public health system that serves all. In India, the shortcomings would be a challenge to deal with (medically)
