Sikhs ruling India, Jatt Sikh to be next Indian Army Chief

civilian govts. in Pakistan are (or 'were') overthrown when they failed to deliver and/or when they left the country in a precarious position....and the moves were backed by the people; in some cases backed by the courts as well.

your post was touching though, to say the least

If you say "backed by the courts", that implies that the coups were backed on legal grounds, that there are provisions in the constitution or law code for the army to take over. That is obviously not true. Without legal reasons, all you can say is that the people who work in the courts also backed them in their personal capacity.

Just like a scientist expressing her opinion does not make that opinion scientific, unless she backs it up with solid scientific reasons.

And by the way, these armymen were then thrown out by the people every time, after painful struggles. So the common people have always had to struggle against their rulers, whether civilian or military. At least the thing with civilian leadership is that they can be elected out of power, unlike armymen who rule just because they can.

Ayesha, i have no idea who you are or where you came from or why I should even bother answering your post when i wasnt even advocating army rule, merely answering to this country guy of yours' post

i do agree with parts of what you say though, in principle. But these are internal issues of Pakistan and therefore beyond your scope (or concern) as they don't affect you.....

but since you are so concerned about coups and so enthusiastic about our military --it's worthy of mention that the one of the longest martial laws in Pakistan's history was administered by a civilian government headed by a civilian Chief Martial Law Administrator (one who also wreacked havoc on Pakistan's economy and national integrity and forced the military to intervene)

Civilian Govt. fail every where and that's why they are Civilian Govt. since the civilian can elect. them and throw them out of power.. It's people who decide what to do with them.. there can be some exceptional case... but Generals throwing the Govt. over and over again is totally a different thing... every time those Generals left almost nothing for the civilian Govt. to work upon with... one cannot expect the civilian Govt. to pull miracles when the treasury is empty.

Armed forces were made to defend country not rule them... in a democratic society.

WHAT CRAP ?? NO CIVILIAN GOVT. HAS FINISHED THEIR 5 YEAR TERM EVEN AFTER 65 YEARS OF PAKISTAN"S INDEPENDENCE.

WHAT A SHAME !!

the real shame is that those civilian governments had it coming, due to their f*ck ups and due to their actions which cost the country economically and 'integrally'

not that it concerns you

He cannot be the general until he dies... or until America wants him to be... so he must know his age.... irrespective of that he can be removed from his office any time by the civilian Govt... quiet opposite to what happens on the other side where the civilian govt. is removed when the general want.. oh.. I am sorry.. It should be said as when amreeka wants.

In India Govt decides General's Age

In Pakistan General decides Government's Age.

in india, general's talk about cold start doctrines but don't even know basic things like their own birth year (thusly necessitating the need for the govt. to remind generals about their age and their already accepted prior promotions

in Pakistan, generals dont issue empty threats....they know their birth years, and their promotions and retirement are based either on simple mathematics or based on deliberations of a committee -with the govt. giving the final stamp of approval (contrary to your popular and inaccurate belief)

Yeah whatever, in Pakistan Generals also get 3 year extensions out of the blue, so their DOB doesn't matter much.

.....and it started with Ayub, it isn't something that started just the other day.

By the way, Bikram Singh is not a Jatt.

Not that his caste or community matters - the main controversy is the selection process by which he was allegedly chosen about 7 or 8 years back.

He gave it himself. The extension for Kayani given by the current Pak Govt came as a shock to many in Pakistan itself.
