The relationship is fueled by 2 factors which are independent of any brotherly love

the public opinion is minipulated with positive images of Israel and Negative data on victims.
c) The individual presidents who are deicision makers are influenced by the political donations they attain for their
Campaigns , and this money ensures that only select folks are brought in higher echelon of government who
will support 2 entities
1) Corporations - who want policies that don't introduce taxes, and ensure access to cheap labor and resources
2) Jesus Lovers - who feel that unconditional support to Israel will bring back Jesus
Many conservatives (Jesus-hadies) , tend to also run powerful corporations which further complicates the scenarios.
The third force in the mix are of course the Zionist , who do run campaigns and maintain a suitable budget to ensure public sees the positive propaganda on Israel in their local subway trains or commute
Most of the capital firms in USA have heavy Jewish element , and so do the Media companies
and the media also promotes entities who display Israel in good light

Meanwhile , Palestinian resistance movement civilians are normally called "Terrorist" or referred by a political party affiliation , and that party is portrayed as the trouble maker for merely asking for an independent state where they can have their own armies and navies
The general public once it reaches an age where they do independent research , don't identify with Israel - because they have nothing in common with zionist, unless of course if the polls were done in a specific city where high concentration exists of specific group

The only reason why USA supports Israel , is indirect influence from Corporations , which have heavy influence on Presidential Campaigns. They donate Millions as a group , and they only donate if a Political President Campaigner has agreed to two promises

b) They will not tax corporation or force them to bring their assets from overseas to USA
By the time the 2-3 candidates are presented before the American public they only get candidates who will continue the same policies already imposed by Corporations. Does not matter who the American people will choose as their leader the outcome will always be in control of Corporations that run America
So the argument that American people support Israel's war crimes is not fully correct , but instead the real argument is , that Israel is supported by the Policies approved by US corporations, which are implemented by their representatives Chosen and funded by them.
This is why we have a situation where for decades US polices have stayed same with respect to Israel
