Hello guys,

China has been helping us alot and we are thankful for them. :china: However, Chinese are 20 years behind western countries in military Technology. Our Al-khalid tanks are based on the outdated Chinese T-85 tank which itself is based on the Soviet T-72 Tanks. We all know how the Iraqi T-72 were destroyed one by one by western Tanks like Abrams and Leopard.

In all honesty, the Best tanks in the world are Abrams, Leopard and the British Challenger. The Koreans are developing an advance tank K2 Black panther which is comparable to best western tanks. The Koreans have sold Turkey all the advance K2 tank technology to make the Turkish Altay Tank. I believe Pakistan needs to collaborate with Turkey and get the technology transfer from the Altay Tank to incorporate in our future Al-khalid Tank. The chinese technology can't compete with the Turkish/Korean/Western technology.

I am afraid al-khalids in their current form if ever were faced with Leopards or Abrams would end up like the Iraqi T-72 Tanks:pakistan:

dont forget that in war scenario the cobras will be at the tail of al khalid so we will have edge we are not like iraqis and alkhalid is better than what india has

Mr Kudret Önen, President of Koç Holding Industry and Other Automotive Group and Chairman of Otokar, stated that backed with its engineering power, R&D facilities, experiences and technical facilities, Otokar is ready to design new generation tank which will fully meet the requirements of the Turkish Armed Forces, and said: "We pride ourselves on being charged for such a large-scale national project of strategic importance. As it was always the case, we will work hard to deserve this confidence in our Company, in order to attain the result befitting our country. For 45 years, we have introduced many firsts to the automotive industry. We have designed the first military armoured vehicle and we realised export of armoured vehicles for the first time. Since 21 years we are operating in the industry. 25 thousand military vehicles we produced are being used by Armed Forces of more than 15 countries, primarily by the Turkish Armed Forces, and UN duty units in several regions of the world. With ALTAY Project, we will break new ground."

Mr Mustafa V. In order to become leader in its region, Turkey requires stable government, growing economy and strong armed forces. Considering the prevailing threats and contemporary battle area conditions, it becomes evident that modern equipment, tools and devices which of hi-tech products and capable to dispose of potential threats must be available further to manpower in order to have contemporary and strong armed forces. We have to develop its own resources and capabilities and to develop our own technology also in this field. Only in this way we can cope with the modern era and attain sustainable growth in the national industry."

Murad Bayar, Undersecretary of SSM, talking at the ceremony, said that it's very important that the ALTAY Project reached to the contract signing phase. He also added that this Project will supply Turkish Armed Forces, the third generation modern main battle tank. He said further: "The studies on the modern tank project firstly started on 1996 and was targeted on a production under licence of an existing tank in the world. But this project stopped on 2004 because of the high costs. In 2005, we started working on Turkish National Main Battle Tank Project and in 2007 Otokar had been chosen as the prime contractor of the Project. And the project is called ALTAY. The first 7 years of the Project will enclose the prototype production and testing functions. After the prototype tanks completed the serial production will start for the first 250 tanks."

Keep in mind, except USA, which Western nation can independently build its stealth fighter?

China can help Pakistan to build the World class armored vehicle that can compete against its Western counterparts.

China may be behind USA, but not all Western countries have the technological advance of USA.

You can't say T-72 is a bad tank at all. Iraqi T-72s were the M model (Monkey model for export) with weaker armor and guns + they didn't have any Fire Control System and their night vision was really outdated.
Also many agree that Iraqi tanks didn't have proper ammunition to penetrate the armor of Modern tanks. Even some say Iraqis used training ammunition in war.
But with major improvements, T-72 can be a very good tank indeed. It needs a good FCS, a proper night vision device and ERA packages and applique armor added. A better engine is also suggested to enhance the mobility. Such Tank could face the American M1A1 in Iraq.

Also, Chinese Type-85 is not a copy of T72. It is much more capable than T-72. And Al Khalid is not based on Type-85. It is based on a much more enhanced version of it called Type-90-II. Type-90-II had an engine problem but the engine of Al-Khalid is an Ukrainian engine which is very capable.

So, I don't see any problem with your Al-Khalid Tanks.

India will have up to 1000++ T-90s. And the latest onces are T-90M built in India, not in kits.

The picture is a M60 sabra upgrade. The Altay official concept is

The tank is estimated to also come in at around 60 tons so it is comparable in size to the Leopard2 and Abrams models. Technical support including technology transfers will come from South Korea's K-2 Black Panther. However Altay will not be based on the K-2 only share similar technologies. Since Korean engineers will help us with the technology transfers we brought from them.

Here is some info on the South Korean K-2
The K2 Black Panther main battle tank evolved from the XK2 programme. This next-generation MBT was developed in South Korea using indigenous technology only. It's development began in 1995 and a full scale production is expected in 2010-2011. The K2 Black Panther will replace the K1 main battle tanks. Currently the K2 is one of the most advanced main battle tank in the world, outclassing anything North Korea or China have. Furthermore it is the most expensive main battle tank to date, overtaking the Japanese Type 90 MBT.

This tank uses both modular composite armor of undisclosed type and Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) blocks. It is also completed with an active protection system and countermeasures system. Protection of the K2 is broadly similar to the M1A2 Abrams MBT considering that the K2 is significantly lighter.

The Black Panther is armed with a 120-mm Rheinmetall smoothbore gun, completed with an autoloader. This MBT has a maximum rate of fire in 15 rounds per minute. It is worth mentioning that autoloader's is similar to that, used on the French Leclerc main battle tank.

It also has a very advanced fire control system, allowing to track and engage not only the main battle tanks, but low-flying helicopters as well. Maximum effective range of fire is up to 10 kilometers. Furthermore it's fire control system can spot, track and fire automatically at visible vehicle-size targets without needing any input from a human operator.

chinese tank are best so ak2 should chinese version
New Chinese tanks are not battle proven. This applies to Al-Khalid and Russian T-90 too.

Ranking of these tanks is open to speculation.

Depends upon what kind of foe we are hypothetically dealing with.

If you are talking about US army; then its M1 Abrams tanks are accompanied by Bradley armored vehicles, Apache gunship helicopters, and A-10 warthogs. A very lethal combination, if you ask any expert.

Al-Khalid II believed to incorporate re-designed turret, upgraded modular armour package and sensors, improved ammunition and new powerpack developing 1,500 hp.

If that is true it will probably bring it above 50 tons. Inline with what china is doing with its MBT force.
