Should pakistan increase the number of troops

i have an idea that any one who have less than 10 grade education must serve 2 to 3 years in army. where he can get education and also opportunity to continue his or her career in Army.
there are country where all the citizen have to serve in army for from years like switzerland south korea iran and more.
we sud introduce some kind of program where people are part of army and in case of war we have support.

I think if Pakistan wants to increase its numbers they should now focus on creating more specialized troops and give them force multiplier weapons and systems that will allow smaller units to take on larger forces. Like
Talwar e Pakistan said, Pakistan cannot match India numerically, but creating new but specialized units with will give them a chance to absorb the strike and repel it.

I think Pakistan better use the troops as most of them just sitting in barraks rather use them country wide for complete crackdown and door to door search operation.

Increasing in number without purpose and keeping them for protocol not worthy

rather then increasing the number of active troops pakistan needs to improve the training of the troops, their equipment. navy and air force should be modernized . just saying that we have the best pilots in the world is insufficient . you need to put them in modern fighters as well to get maximum out of them and to win a war. our infantry and artillery still operate the weapons of world war 2 era and we have the same old tactics for conventional war. troops are not well trained to use modern equipment and the basic education level of troops is still so low that they cant operate any medium tech weapon. stress should be given on the education of officers and troops. army needs to get rid of the mentality "we need soldiers not scholars" . this is 21st century and we need to adopt modern ways to fight a war but i am expecting that only little improvement will occur as we pakistanis change only after facing the ultimate disaster. the americans give top priority to their aerospace force then to navy and then comes the army as they are sensible people who change according to time. they know that in todays world the role of air force to destroy the enemy strategic assets and to have intel about the enemy through satellites is the most important so they have invested a lot in these areas but in pakistan we still we have the traditional mentality. increase the number of poorly trained troops, make them sit in a hole and give them G 3. then add more salt to the wound by not promoting the one who is good in his job but to promote the one who is good at pleasing his superiors.

reduce the non-combatant numbers like batmen's etc. What we need to do is to invest in our CT and SF numbers. we have adequate numbers for conventional defense along the eastern border. increase mechanized units for quick action. we can never match our adversary in the numbers game.

Batmen's are no longer on PA's payroll. The officers are given an allowance, and it's up to them to hire one.

You are talking about the 90's,NCB(not commissioned batman) is the new substitute, thanks to kayani for this,he took this wonderful decision during the swat ops,i guess.
However NCB's do get some benefits of a soldier for example Medical is free etc.

Quality and quantity both. It is scary how you say it's gone 'down' - Baluchistan has been targeted many times, we make it too easy. The point isn't to lessen, the point should be to prevent.
I am not making it scary for you. Have a look at fatalities.

coming to Baluchistan now.

Strength of Regular Baluchistan Police: 26,965

The ATF(Anti Terrorist Force) of Police is trained in 2016 (freshly trained) by two Army units, 48 FF and 6 AK Regiments. There have been 600 Police trained as ATF since 2013.

There are 100 each troops of Police and Baluchistan Constabulary under going ATF training with FC in 2016.

http://www.balochistanpolice.gov.pk/att.php

Strength of Baluchistan Constabulary: 8,362

The Baluchistan Constabulary is the strength of an oversized Army Infantry Brigade, standing at 8,000+ men. It has 30 APC and one aircraft for use against miscreants. An Army Infantry Brigade doesnt even have APC's unless its mechanised or armoured. So Baluchistan Constabulary is actually equipped much better in this regard atleast and can travel in these armoured personnel carriers rather than open pickups/jeeps in which FC and Army travels.

There have been 600 Baluchistan Constabulary troops trained by Army as ATF.

Strength of Baluchistan Levies: 13,000

This force is present for low intensity areas known as B-areas for providing law and order. These troops also man check points and posts.

In my opinion, this force of 13,000 troops is being wasted as its under equipped and considered as the cheapest available LEA. Just for info, an army division is composed of 13,000+ troops. This force can be made quite potent and lethal if trained and equipped properly.

Anti Narcotics Force

This force is present to deal with drugs and narcotics smuggling. This force has been made solely for the purpose of assisting other LEA's so especially the burden on Police is reduced. I dont have its strength and numbers but it was stated above in some post that FC was also required to fight and deal with drug/narcotics smuggling. This force has the helicopters, raid squads, dogs, equipment and is armed to the teeth to fight narcotics and drugs trade.

Special security Division (CPEC Security Force) strength 15,000

This force is raised just to protect CPEC routes. This is again the strength of an army infantry Division, and is comprised 9 battalions and 6 civil armed wings. I know that only a part of this force will be deployed in Balchistan but again its to reduce burden on FC, Police and LEA's. Even if 2 battalions are deployed along routes in every province, thats roughly 1500 troops per province. The task of providing security in the areas protected by SSD will tantamount to lesser deployment of LEA in those areas and these troops can be used to bolster any other troubled sector

Now if Government of Pakistan still wants to increase troops.

NATIONAL GUARD:

Mujahid Force strength 60,000

Organized in battalions, some with light air defence capability. Some units are deployed in Azad Kashmir and few Units are serving in cantonment areas as well. These can be made excellent QRF units along with FC. They are a good defensive force against Regular Infantry and are trained to withstand slaughtering enemy MG and heavy weapons fire. They are given defence of an area in case of war and can break down attack after attack of enemy regular infantry forces. They are trained by Army infantry battalions.

In peacetime, they serve in some sensitive AK areas and as security forces in cantts. They can easily form QRF when numbers need to increased and can also assist FC in raiding attacks on terrorist hideouts.

Janbaz Force Strength 100,000

The members of janbaz force are intended to serve close to their home districts. This is also an infantry styled force with excellent defensive capability in war time. The members of this force are deployed in their local areas as they know the terrain, weather and routes very well. In case India captures their area and regular forces cannot reach in time, they are expected to trouble the enemy constantly.

Being locals of their areas, they are a worthy asset to Police and FC, if heavy firepower and numbers are required by an LEA. They are trained by Army infantry battalions.

If you see now, Pakistan has raised different kinds of forces just to help police(LEA's) and maintain internal security while also keeping in mind a war time reserve force in case India tries grabs hold of Pakistani territory.

How many more forces and more troops do you need.

All you need is management.

A large majority of our defence budget goes into sustaining the salaries of our personnel. Should always be somewhere around 400,000-800,000

Pakistan already has made that move by introducing R&S battalions in infantry Divisions which are now known as LAT's(Light Anti Tank).

The strength of these battalions was lesser than a regular infantry battalion in numbers, probably 450+ troops instead of 770 but they had enormous firepower and excellent mobility. The firepower was achieved through 106mm RR guns, mortars, bazookas, MG's etc which were allotted more than a regular infantry battalion. This gave them strong anti-tank capability also. For mobility, they had more jeeps to carry these weapons as well as extra Machine gun mounted jeeps for reconnaissance role.

The doctrine was to hold the area with firepower instead of strength in numbers.

Don't have time to give you elaborate reply but think about this. The only fail safe shield Pakistan has against India is the nuclear deterant. Pakistan is never, repeat never going to outgun India on the conventional battlefield when it faces 1:7 disparity in populations. This is sobering but a fact. Therefore it is foolish to even go down the numbers game because you shall be always outmatched. The fact is the only protection Pakistan has is the nukes. That is what keeps the billion plus whimps across the border from over running Pakistan like swarm of ants.

Therefore Pakistan should focus on the nuclear deterance and just have enough conventional force to purchase time to fall back on the nuclear option. Like a tripwire if you will. Given this instead increasing the size it should downsize the conventional force.

The savings should be invested in nuclear deterance like submarine platforms and rest invested in creating A class single consolidated internal security force - similar to rangers but improved, increased in size, upped in equipment and training like Turkish Jandarma. This force should invest in improving internal secirity inside Pakistan which is the achilles heel of Pakistan. Internal security would enforce the writ of the state across every district in Pakistan. no foreign investor like Chinese should worry about their safety inside a sovereign Pakistan.

And the smaller PA would still function as a tripwire should India attack for the nuclear force to deploy. Having said this I doubt this will ever happen. PA is not known for being imaginery in it's ideas and tends like many militariers to be very conservative and slow in evolution. In addition all militaries have a inertia which works against downsizing as it means losing jobs and privilages. So nobody worry. It is NOT going to happen.

Good post. The best example in front of us in the modern era of a numerically inferior army winning despite numbers against them is Israel viz a viz the Arab armies. Only Egypt alone enjoys a 4 times superiority in numbers. Yes the Israelis have had support from the west and access to the latest technology, but thats the point. India can outnumber us but if we have a competent yet small force armed with the latest weapons to face them then numbers can matter little. Downsizing will make available much needed funds to do just this.

If we want to go down the route of history, then Alexander was almost always numerically outnumbered (especially by the Persians), but his soldiers were well trained hardened veterans, and surprise surprise he won practically every battle. We can never compete with the Indians in terms of numbers. The onus is on us to be creative. History can be the judge as to whether we have been or not.

As title say can we increase the number of regular troops for army about 200,000.00 as currently we only have 550'000.00 active troops as compare to 1million plus indian army and we are engaged in war on both fronts. Is there any possiblities that we increase numbers from reserves into regulars or can we transfer troops from rangers and fc into regular forces. These aditional numbers can enhance our defences on eastren border.
Yes I agree. As economy improves and our defence budget increases Pakistan should increase its Army size 0.8 million and also Pakistan should number of marines to one hundred and fifty thousand.

India have 1million plus army they need large numbers because of pakistan and china. Increas in pakistan army is must, not 200k all at once but slowely and surley as our forces at the moment deployed very thin across the country.

We need to revamp and strengthen Police and QRFs. Strength of Armed Forces are more than enough for our requirement if they are spared just to protect borders.

No need to increase troops and Pakistan already have over capacity troops wise, India is more then four times land wise and they have 1 million troop. We have to focus on equipment.
