Either you become self sufficient which is possible by the way considering the Indians have the INSAS which will one day be monopolized in the military. Or you go with the best and buy German stock which no one has ever matched. All this depending on if we have the money.

There is no advantge of replacing the G 3 .308 . The americans learnt that in afg---in the high mountains---the 5.56 round was not very effective---. Distances were farther than 300 yards between the valleys and the stopping power of the .308 was needed for opium and hashish smoking fighters

The original 5.56 rounds the US army was using wasn't effective from what I have read (or at least many troops complained, many didn't, but it became cause of concern for the military), but that is why they developed a new 5.56 NATO round that is effective in the Afghan theater such as the new M855A1 which was deployed in 2010. In fact, army tests showed the M855A1 outperformed the 7.62x51 ball-ammo against steel targets. So I wouldn't say the 5.56 round can't be effective you just have to make sure you are using a variant that serves your needs. Although I do agree that Pakistan should stick with the .308 caliber.

7.62 mm rifles have stopping power and 5.56 NATO has penetration power which will injure the enemy but might not kill it for example a documentary on Discovery years ago was Aired in which soldier described that I used full ammo on my enemy section group size many of them were hit but not killed it was like bullet just passed by but m16 had stopping power used in different theatre's of war of IRAQ in which a single bullet killed the soldiers. I still believe that 6.8 mm version that was to be tested for new caliber rifle program is better option we should wait. imho m4 is light but does not provide good firepower. Penetration has nothing to do with stopping power.

As I see we have only three options either FN SCAR or HK-417 or MPT76 and most easy for us is to get MPT76

After some heavy debate, here in Europe we belive that in each rifle section (actual Portuguese is 8 men) most of the weapons should be 5,56mm, but a part of it should mantain 7,62mm, at least a DMS (Designated Marksman Shooter) and/or the LMG (Light Machine Gunner). This way you can carry many ammo and fight CQB, but when you reach the windows ore you are on a mountain, you can shoot the 7,62mm weapons at longer ranges and cross over those 7 men and injuried the 8th (tested by the Portuguese Army in Africa). Probably in a Rifle Section you shoud have 2 HK416 w/GL, 4 regular HK416, 1 MG4 or MG5(HK121) LMG and a DMS rifle (HK417 or G3M). Yes we are using the G3M w/leopold sight in Afganistan and are satisfied with the performance.

So you dont have to replace all your G3 rifles, some will remain.
