Shoaib Akhtar excluded from central contract

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the central contract for five players but fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has failed to get the contract.

Misbah-ul-Haq has been appointed vice-captain of the national team.

The PCB meeting, based on a 15-point agenda, lasted nine hours at a local hotel. The meeting was attended by 12 persons.

In a media briefing after the meeting, chairman PCB Dr. Nasim Ashraf announced to appoint Misbah-ul-Haq as vice-captain of the Pakistan team.

He also told that the 15 players, included in the central contract, have been divided into three categories.

Category ‘A’ includes Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf and Mohammad Asif whereas Shahid Khan Afridi and Umar Gul have been put on category ‘B’.

Six players - Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami, Faisal Iqbal, yasir hameed, Imran Nazir and Mohammad Hafeez – were not included in the list of the central contract and they have been given special retainership category. They can get the central contract next year after proving their fitness and performance.

The chairman PCB said that the final decision of banning the players taking part in county cricket would be taken in the meeting to be held in March.

Meanwhile, the cricket operation department will submit its report that who are the players participating in the county cricket and what are the demerits of it.

However, the players taking part in the ICL will not be eligible to play first-class cricket besides playing for the national team.

Nice for Him ....:smokin:

Now atleast he can sit alone and think what he did wrong in his career.

Still won't learn i beleive.

.
I can understand about Shoaib probably Bollywood offer made him think away from game.
But what about Asif isn't he recovered from injury ?

.
good step indeed i like afridi to be banned for life i cant forget his 20-20 final shot.

.
Good decision. Pakistan cricket does not need players who can't even bowl five overs in a row. Afridi is also waste of talent perhaps because he uses his bat more than his brains.

Afridi is like a cannon overloaded with gunpowder. when it fires it fires hard, but more often than not its likely to just blow up in your face.

agreed!

Fawad Alam is a lot better player than afridi and i would love to see him in the Team.

I have very mixed feelings about Shoaib. In many ways he has been the architect of his own destruction as was Waqar. Lack of discipline and a loose life style have all played their part. Certainly if he cant bowl 3-5 overs without getting tired, he has no place in the side. However on the fitness front Mohd Asif has had a few problems as well. Should he have been offered a central contract when he has not shown his fitness either? Same goes for Omar Gul. Ithink the Board needs to be crystal clear in its policy. If they have excluded one player, they should use the same yardstick for the others.
Regarding Afridi, he still has a place as a lower order allrounder. His fielding is good, as is his bowling. With the bat he sometimes performs and sometimes not. If we considerd him a lower order player and allrounder, he will be fine in a one day side. His efficacy as a test player, I am not too sure about. Pakistan cricket is clearly crying for fresh blood to be inducted into the side and this needs to happen Now. we have a few fine prospects, lets give them a chance.

I don't think Waqar was nearly as reckless as Shoaib. True, he was a bit cocky and in a constant tussle with Wasim Akram and then there was that incident of weed... but come on man, it was just weed. But Waqar always put a lot into his game which eventually subsided on its own as he got older. This is far more respectable than the antics of Shoaib who has never really dedicated himself to the game or the team.

Energon.
From what little I have heard from various sources, Waqar was no angel. His antics in his hay days were pretty similar though not as bad as Shoaib. If his antics were just weed, then Shoaibs antics are also clubbing, womanizing and drinking I agree that he had a lot more discipline than Shoaib. But if you look at his career, we never got as much out of him as we could have . There is a big hiatus of 4-5 yrs where he was not allowed to play /did not play. I dont think he ever played in Australia.
The bottom line is through controversy or illhealth, we as Pakistanis been deprived of the pleasure of seeing the 2 Ws together for a significant part of their career.
