Shia, Sunni clerics to jump into fire in Gilgit-Baltistan; survivor to be considered winner

Shia extremism in Pakistan is a thing that often gets ignored

This latest fasad in Gilgit Baltistan is a perfect example of it

It is getting more extreme with each passing day and no one is bothering to challenge/counter it.

Nope

It all started from here

When this Shia scholar challenged Ahle Sunnat for Munazira and Mubahila. They accepted it simply after which this letter was issued by shia scholar asking administration to provide wood for fire and all that. There is nowhere any sunni scholar said that we would jump in the fire or anything like that. It was brought forward by the other side

Burning people to death is haram in Islam. We can't do that

We don't know that. The actual letter, otoh, is addressed to the Sunni "scholar" and clearly states who issued the challenge and who accepted it in response. Not that it would make either one of the two any less moronic. We would instead then be better advised not to pick sides between the two idiots whose sole purpose is to pick a regional/political fight garbed in sectarian colors.

With regards to who started it, that is a centuries long story. I have the time, if you'd like.

As for mubahila. Its process is mentioned in Quran itself

Surely the case of Jesus is like the case of Adam. He created him out of dust, then he said to him, "Be', and he was. This is the truth from thy Lord, so be thou not of those who doubt. Now whoso disputes with thee concerning him, after what has come to thee of Knowledge, say to him "Come let us call our sons and your sons and our women and your women and ourselves and yourselves then let us pray fervently and invoke the curse of Allah on those who lie."

— Quran, 3:59–61

No mention of fire in the verse

nothing, however al-mubahala is the invocation of God's curse https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event_of_Mubahala

they say that it is sunnat e Muhammadi

Mubahala was a custom practiced by the Arab Christians and other Semitic tribes of Arabia since before the time of the Prophet (S.A.W), not the Muslims. It was the invoking of God's curse on each party by the other to decide who was being truthful. When a religious debate between the Prophet (S.A.W) and the Christians of Najran reached an impasse due to "the other's refusal to accept valid arguments", as claimed by both sides at the time, the Quran advised the Prophet (S.A.W) to put forth the Christian (Arab) challenge of Mubahala to force them to admit to their falsehood. The Christian delegation, which believed in the validity of the Mubahla unquestionably, withdrew from the challenge, thus exposing their false stance and allegations.

Mubahala is not an Islamic concept or method to figure out who is right or wrong. It was an Arab Christian concept used by the Muslims to force them to concede whenever they were being untruthful in debates. Hence the reason why it was always only raised against them. So, Mubahala means nothing in Islam, fire or no fire.

This is so damn hilarious, especially reading all the comments.
People really don’t have anything productive to do…!! especially the religious kind.

The letter came much after the rant by Mr Agha Rahat Hussaini who challenged Sunnis for munazira and mubahila. The fact is that the earliest video that we have in this episode is from a Shia scholar Agha Rahat Hussaini. Also the "jumping into fire" was also mentioned by Shia scholar in his speech and his letter

There is no video of any sunni scholar challenging shias to jump in the fire. Both of us haven't see' it

So there is nothing wrong in taking sides because when it comes to Sunnis, people openly bashing them happens very conveniently. So same should happen in this too and culprit should be called out

Again wrong

Prophet (SAW) agreed to this mubahila. Other than that there is no ruling by any scholar or any hadees saying that Mubahila is a Christian concept and shouldn't be done by Muslims

Someone posted this on another website when all this started.

I don't know the authenticity of this letter though.
Mubahala doesn't involve jumping into the fire according to Quran. It's just asking for curse of Allah on the party which is on wrong path.

Don;t know authenticity of this letter but few things can be concluded from it

1. Other side is continuously involved in blasphemous speeches and provocations (no surprises there)
2. FIR would be filed against these provocations
3. The challenge of munazira and mubahila was from other side that has been accepted
4. No mention of jumping in fire or anything like that

Since you've made it crystal that your intent is to criticize the Shia sect, don't believe I have the time to waste.

Never a good idea to shoot from the hip.

You've been given fair direction to read up and educate yourself on. Best make use of the resources out there before you respond. Too long a day for me to entertain another self-acclaimed scholar who can't see the problem with a "no ruling by any scholar or any hadees against it" argument.

mullahs from both sides can jump into the fire and never come back out as far as I am concerned...will settle the sectarian divide once and for all!

Exactly Mate...I was going to say the same. Let all Mullahs from all sects jump into the fire....and get their 72 Angels.....and leave the world in peace.

Shia and Sunni clerics in Gilgit-Baltistan have challenged each other of Mubahila (debate) on the recent sectarian disputes. The challenge has been accepted by both parties and the day and time of the Mubahila have also been fixed.

Separate statements were issued on May 17 by the Ahl-e-Sunnat and the Imamia Council of Gilgit-Baltistan. The elders of the Ahle-e-Sunnat said that an important meeting of the ulema and elders of the group and other religious and political parties was held under the chairmanship of emir-e-Tanzeem. The statement said that “[the] one side was constantly bent on disturbing the peace and order in various ways. Therefore, all Muslims will play a constitutional and democratic role in the establishment of peace. A case of blasphemy will also be registered (against the other side). Also, the challenge of Mubahila has been accepted; come and decide about the place and time”.

On the other hand, the Central Imamia Council of Gilgit-Baltistan issued a statement the same day and wrote a letter to the central khatib of Ahl-e-Sunnat Jamia Masjid Gilgit stating that Agha Rahat Hussain Al-Husseini accepted the debate challenge.

“Our call is based on the truth of sincerity that all Muslims should accept the religion of truth and achieve success and prosperity in this world and the hereafter”, says the statement.

Since there have been many debates in the past which have not yielded any result, this time it has been decided to dispute so that the reality is clear and the riots in the area end forever and the truth prevails.

“In this context, the district administration of Gilgit will arrange firewood on Friday, May 21, 2021, at 3pm at the Royal Polo Ground. In the presence of the provincial government, force commander, chief secretary, and esteemed judges of the courts, Agha Rahat Hussain Al-Husseini from the Shia sect and Maulana Qazi Nisar Ahmad from Ahl-e-Sunnat and Jamaat will jump into the fire to prove their legitimacy. The survivors will be the winner, and the one who is burnt will be considered false”.

The general secretary of the Central Imamia Council also sent copies of the letter to the chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, home secretary Gilgit-Baltistan, deputy commissioner, and the Gilgit SSP.

Put both of them on Billion tree tsunami duty for a year as they have got too much time on their hands to come up with these kind of disagreements. Natural elements under the sun will give them some enlightenments.
