Sharif brothers declared ineligible

Independent Judiciary Needed for the Survival of Pakistan ...

The supreme court which is present now is FAKE & Controlled by Zardari ..

What a Fcuked UP judiciary ..

Support Long March
Support Independent Judiciary .

Long Live PAKISTAN

^^When N.Sharif was in rule he also indimidated judiciary and conspired against the than cheif justice of Pakistan 'justice Naseem Hassan Shah'
N. Sharif also killed one army cheif and tried to kill second one.
Now there was a case against him and there is a verdict! which is in line with justice and constitution!
If judiciary is not helping Sharif family than it is not fair but when same Sharif family put Zardari behind bars without any trial for 7 years! was that fair?

I think it is personal matter between Sharif family and Zardari family.

I hope as usuall Zardari will come forward to advise Sharif family and I hope Sharif family will heed to the advise of Zardari, as they always did in past.

IMO, best option for Sharif family was to take retirement from politics.
PPP had bought the loyalties of stupid PML-N by threatining them of PML-Q, where as PML-Q was never had demanded any share in govt. or actively pursued alliance with Zardari.

i have always said and will say it again!! Nawaz Sharif is a moron and has no right to be in the political arena. He has been duped at least 3 times in his political careerby various personalities. He is so thick he has still not learnt anything. As for Zardari ___ once a snake always a snake!! A consumate politician but a bad administrator. His problem is he has given the country no direction in which to move, it seems as if things are rudderless.
may Allah save pakistan.

In fact I was...

I'm no supporter of Sharif, but I'll support him to get rid of Zardari.

After hes through there won't be a PPP left.

I dont know whose worst, Sharif or Zardari, are they that different from each other :undecided:

I could have sworn that fighting people carrying out suicide bombings and blowing up schools was in Pakistan's interest, and not 'sucking up to the US'.

If you want to criticize Zardari do so, but at least find something legitimate.

I never mentioned Zardari in the first place. I accept that fighting against terrorism and completely understand how crucial it is to join in it but I as a citizen feel that none of the elected members were taken into consideration when such decisions were made this is not the right procedure I feel that no one person has the right to decide if we should have a war or not it should have been debated in the Parliament for and against joining the war on terrorism and then whatever the decision would have come out I am sure would be easy for us to accept and understand currently our parlaiment is actually being used as a rubber stamp and that is intolerable in my opinion. I was pointing to Musharraf if democracy is allowed I am sure people like Zardari won't be voted for and the system will sort itself out sooner rather than the stepping in of military rule.

LOL :D The Champions of Democracy and Free Judiciary will now protest against SC Verdict! :D

They dont consider the current SC to be legitimate. The think (or atleast pretend to) Iftikar Chaudry is the legal CJ, who is being held off from his post.

But our people have changed their minds again. Now we're admitting we were too stupid to vote for PPP. When Zardari was ineligible to contest due to not being a college graduate, he quickly got the okay from our kangaroo courts.

The sharifs tried to hijack and kill a person. There is no doubt in my mind that they don't deserve to be there. But our people want them in. The majority does. So let it happen! Haha give the majority their true Power and see the tamasha they do. I say let it happen, till we don't hit rock bottom we'll never learn. We've learned some tough lessons, but some tougher ones are still needed.

What are you talking about, Zardari has been MNA twice before. He does have a college degree, but it's not from a world class university that's all. Dude he did his junior school fro Karachi Grammer and senior from Petaro, both top-class education centers of that time. He is not as '*****' as generally portrayed.

Punjab traders to go on strike today

* PSMA chairman says everyone should accept court’s verdict
* PIAF chairman says decision will not have lasting impact on country

Staff Report

LAHORE: Traders on Wednesday announced a one-day strike to protest the Supreme Court (SC) decision to disqualify the Sharif brothers, and called upon political workers to unite and save the country.
All Pakistan Anjuman Tajiran President Haji Maqsood Butt said Punjab’s traders would observe a strike today (Thursday) to protest the court’s decision. He said most traders had closed shops of their own accord on Wednesday, but a complete strike would be observed today. Businessmen said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers were trying to politicise the court’s decision, adding it would be damaging to the country. They said the PML-N’s reaction would not only create problems on the political front, but would also negatively affect the country’s economy.
Accept verdict: Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) Chairman Iskandar Khan said everyone should accept the verdict delivered by the SC because the judges were aware of the legalities concerned. However, he added, the decision was against the country’s economy.
Sheikh Muhammad Mushtaq, chief of the Qaumi Tajir Ittehad, said the traders’ community should unite and save the country from chaos. He called upon the traders to show patience and not take the law into their hands.
Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Azad Group Chairman Raja Hasan Akhtar and Senior Vice Chairman Muhammad Yasin said the political parties should show tolerance. They urged the political leadership to place the country’s prosperity before their personal goals.
No impact: Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) Chairman Irfan Kaiser said the court’s decision would not have any lasting impact on the country. Meanwhile, AKD Securities Chairman Aqeel Karim Dhedi said the stock market crash following the SC’s short order verdict was temporary, adding the market would improve in a few days.

Supreme Court verdict sparks protests in Sindh
Thursday, February 26, 2009
By our correspondent

HYDERABAD: Activists of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday took out rallies and staged demonstrations in interior Sindh against the Supreme Court’s decision, declaring Nawaz Sharif and Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif ineligible to hold any public office.

A demonstration was staged outside the Hyderabad Press Club, which was led by PML-N central leader Raees Allah Bukhsh Magsi. The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the SC decision and in support of the Sharif brothers and an independent judiciary.

Addressing the protesters, Magsi said the disqualification of the Sharif brothers would lead to political instability in the country and accelerate the movement for the restoration of the deposed judges, including chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

Our Larkana correspondent adds: PML-N District President Babu Sarfraz Khan Jatoi led a protest rally taken out against the disqualification. The rally marched on various roads, chanting slogans against President Asif Ali Zardari.

Addressing the protesters, Sarfraz strongly condemned the court decision. Later, enraged protesters burnt tyres and staged a sit-in for several hours. Prominent figures participating in the rally were Ahmed Bux Korai, MB Jatoi, Nazir Ahmed Chandio, Zulfiqar Sahito and Saleem Mirani.

Our Nawabshah correspondent adds: The PML-N office-bearers and members took out a protest rally and marched on the city roads where they managed to shut down some shops. Addressing the rally, Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Muhammad Saleem, Muzammil Qureshi, Abdul Hameed Khosa, Suhail Rasheed, Abdul Sattar Arain spoke against the verdict.

Our Khairpur correspondent adds: A protest rally began from the house of PML-N Sindh chief Syed Ghous Ali Shah and terminated at the Press Club, Khairpur, where PML-N District President Abdul Majeed Shaikh, General Secretary Ghulam Hyder Phulpoto, Syed Nawaz Ali Shah and others said the decision was against the people of Pakistan.

Our Jacobabad correspondent adds: A PML-N workers’ rally started from the district office of the party under the leadership of PML-N provincial leaders Aziz Abro and Mohammad Akram Rind and passed through various roads before turning into a public meeting at the Press Club, Jacobabad. The participants of the rally raised slogans in favour of the Sharif brothers and against the SC verdict, calling it unfair.

PML-N workers and supporters also took out rallies in Kandhkot, Shikarpur and Rojhan Mazari.

Our Badin correspondent adds: Irate activists of the PML-N took out a small protest rally from the Fruit Chowk, which terminated at the Badin Press Club under the leadership of Tauseef Ahmed and Saleem Arain.

The activists said the decision was taken to foil the long march by the lawyers. The Central Information Secretary of Sindh People’s Youth Tanveer Ahmed Arain, meanwhile, said the statements of Nawaz Sharif against Asif Ali Zardari were very unhelpful and based on false claims. He said Nawaz was indulging in contempt of court because disqualification was a decision of the Supreme Court and not that of President Asif Ali Zardari.

Our Naushahro Feroze correspondent adds: Dozens of activists of the PML-N took out a rally that ended outside the Naushahro Feroze Press Club. The rally started from the PML-N district office, went round the entire city before terminating at the press club. The rally was led by Manzoor Mughal, district president PML-N, Sikandar Rind, Zahid Rind, Fawad Khan and others. The participants were raising slogans against the PCO judges.

What are you talking about, Zardari has been MNA twice before. He does have a college degree, but it's not from a world class university that's all.
He got the law amended. It was probably a university not recognized by the Pakistan Higher Education board. Which in today's terms are called degree mills. He officially has no recognized college degree.

Everybody kept worrying about pissing off Balochis, Sindhis for the sanctity of Pakistan... What happens when you piss off Punjabis, 65% of the Pakistani population? Shahbaz Sharif has really done a good job with Lahore and Punjab as a whole. People aren't going to take this decision easy.

If you piss off Punjabis, there goes the economy because the economy is run on agriculture Punjab is the center of agriculture and as you see from the above article I posted Punjabi businessmen going on strike for even one day can have a huge negative effect on Pakistan's economy.

By the way, I dont think 65% of Pakistan's population is Punjabi that's too much. Punjabis make almost 50% of Pakistan's population.

Editorial: Tough times ahead for PPP after SC decision

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court has finally declared the Sharif brothers ineligible for electoral politics. Mr Nawaz Sharif has been ousted from fighting elections because of his conviction in a case of hijacking that took place in 1999; and Mr Shehbaz Sharif has been disqualified because he was a loan defaulter in 2000 and bargained away his crime for freedom in exile.

The immediate effect of this decision is the orphaning of the PMLN government in Punjab. The country’s largest province has been placed under Governor’s Rule and Mr Salmaan Taseer will soon ask someone else to show a vote of confidence and form the next government. The provincial bureaucracy will undergo an upheaval because officers will be shifted around to suit the next political administration while Lahore watches with a sense of shock and great emotional alienation. The two disqualified leaders are not only leaders of one of the two parties in the country’s bipartisan system but extremely popular in Punjab.

It was the popular strength of the Sharifs that persuaded them to reject the Supreme Court and absent themselves from the trial, offering insult to it in their statements. The street in Lahore is already condemning the verdict and casting the first stone in the war that will unfold on the media in the coming days. The lawyers’ movement can hardly conceal its satisfaction. It has condemned the Supreme Court as the bogus PCO court that must be removed to bring back the court of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. One can almost say that the Sharifs have extorted the decision from the Court to suit their politics because of their refusal to be flexible vis-à-vis the NRO (which Mr Iftikhar Chaudhry has vowed to knock out) on which Mr Asif Zardar’s very survival rests.

So it was a case of either Mr Zardari and Mr Dogar or Mr Sharif and Mr Chaudhry.

The Long March will now take on a new meaning. The lawyers might have to reconsider their date of “dharna” which Mr Nawaz Sharif wanted put further off from March 16, the day of “dharna” after the start of the march on March 12, to enable the Muslim League rank and file to stage their show of strength from Punjab. Not only will the “dharna” likely be forceful with possibilities of violence, but the districts situated along the Grand Trunk Road are likely to erupt with protest. If the Sharif brothers decide to stage this agitation — Mr Nawaz Sharif had actually warned of this and called upon Punjabis to revolt on the streets — it will have the benefit of a number of crucial factors.

The lawyers will be the most effective exponents of this show of force. Their movement is avowedly peaceful but has declined repeatedly into violence. Many of the lawyers are not just professionals but politically engaged persons who feel strongly about the PPP government that they think is an extension of the Musharraf regime. They will receive support from the parties in the All-Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) that had stood by them by boycotting the 2008 elections. Together with the angry supporters of the PMLN, the aggregate of anti-PPP forces will flex muscle and put the country’s fragile political system to severe test.

No less crucial will be the support which the media will likely offer to the “Zardari Hatao” movement that is sure to follow. (The name of the movement was coined by a columnist last week.) The media has been supportive of the lawyers’ movement and has by and large been partisan in favour of the PMLN against Mr Zardari. The effect of the TV channels on the public has not yet been measured because it is unprecedented in the history of the country. But in the days to come, the ruling coalition will feel itself being isolated as the media projects the PMLN and the lawyers as they get ready to agitate.

The aim will be create a running crisis and not let any PPP-PMLQ coalition govern in one piece. There is no constitutional provision for any mid term election but there is a tradition of military intervention to cut short prolonged agitation that threatens the “security of the state”. This intervention can force the prime minister to dissolve the parliament and order fresh elections under a neutral caretaker set-up. With terrorist elements uniting against the trio of “Obama-Karzai-Zardari” and letting the Pakistan army off the hook, the PPP will face a tough test in the days and weeks to come. *

Second Editorial: Exit National Security Council

No one will grieve over the demise of the National Security Council (NSC) as Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani directs “the law minister to table a bill in the National Assembly dissolving it through an act of parliament”. The NSC was General-President Musharraf’s pet project which he wanted to put inside the Constitution but couldn’t bring the religious parties to okay the idea while negotiating his 17th Amendment. (Even a constitutional NSC would have gone after the 17th Amendment is abolished, as pledged by the ruling coalition.)

The NSC is supposed to establish a regular communications channel between the army and the elected government. In small print, it means that an elected government can avoid getting toppled if it resorts to constant reference to the “mind” of the army in the NSC. The 13-member NSC is chaired by the president and includes the prime minister, the Senate chairman, the National Assembly (NA) speaker, the opposition leader in the NA, the provincial chief ministers, the armed services chiefs and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

That the Pakistan army is supreme in Pakistan is common knowledge. Why it is supreme has also been explained repeatedly by people who study Pakistan. That it has overthrown civilian governments again and again is a part of national history. That, after the end of the Cold War, the army wants an NSC is also well known. It doesn’t want to take over but it wants to keep an eye on what kind of policies the civilian government pursues. Lacking an NSC, it tried the 8th Amendment but found it more destabilising than even the vagaries of a liberal democratic system run by an all-powerful prime minister. General Jehangir Karamat, the rare intellectually oriented COAS of Pakistan, went away saying the only way governance could be made tolerable in Pakistan was to create a National Security Council.

The political system rebels against the idea. The elected politicians prefer the Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DDC) which comes together on the basis of an executive order. They don’t want an NSC under the Constitution; and not even under an act of parliament. And this is despite the fact that all the opposition, plus the media, sided with the army and hamstrung the elected government in the aftermath of the Mumbai attacks. The message is clear enough: military dominance has not served Pakistan well and will not be allowed by any de jure means. *

"What happens when you piss off Punjabis, 65% of the Pakistani population? Shahbaz Sharif has really done a good job with Lahore and Punjab as a whole. People aren't going to take this decision easy."

But it’s a fair decision. Most Pakistanis, including Punjabis, know this. Punjabi dynamic might be coming into play here with the Punjabi CJ Iftikar and Nawaz Sharif against Sindhi Zardari however I think most people know that had it been CJ Iftikar making the decision on the NS case, the verdict would have been the same. Iftikar did support Musharraf’s take over and NRO against Nawaz Sharif after all.

Its Not about Sindhi, Balochi, Punjabi or Pathan Its about Common People in Pakistan, Its about "Rule of Law" which is not present in Pakistan.

Influential People can have all the privileges they want and SC will give them Cover for their sins but Common and weak/poor people in Pakistan are suffering and they are unable to get Justice in Pakistan.
