Don't blame the messenger. It's an article in NYT. From the interview it seems that they are singled out for this profession because of their religion. In a recent movie “Article 15" — their plight was highlighted in India also - especially in the rural areas.

It's hard for them to digest facts. Discrimination in India is reported widely because it is against the law. It seems it is part of the law there - so what's there to report?

This is bad. This is happening again and again. How can this happen in Islamic society?
Christians are related to this profession. But not all are. Now a days they are Muslims too.
Its actually a punjab problem. We also call them choras. Chora actually is a low caste Hindus in punjab that converted to Christianity and do cleaning adn sweage works for the British and from the the desi babus got that terminology going.
This is serious. It is giving country a bad name. And it's not even a problem. You just have to be sensitive about it. And be careful writing next time. It's the newspapers, its their problem. When asked for sweapers for them it means cleaners.

Because the 3 colors - Saffron, white & green symbolize something. Blue itself doesn't symbolize anything. Rather, the symbol is the Ashok Chakra.

we don't have discrimination in our constitution but give more protection unlike in India caste is still a big thing.
