Seven Sisters don’t want to be “Indian”

Manipur is only a small, insignificant part of India. Karachi is the most important city of Pakistan, the economic hub. Please don't compare the two. Plus, there are a lot more insurgencies all across India that cause a lot more damage.

Yeah right, like Baluchistan alone had 347 persons killed in 2010. Punjab 316, Sindh 162, KP 1202, FATA 5023.

All 2010 data.

FATA Assessment - 2011

Ohh yeah explosion in Assam in 2011 didn't have any casualties to speak of.

One blast only left a 100 people injured.

The point is, most of the attacks in the 7 sister states is through guns/arms, not bomb blasts. If I start highlighting the non-bomb related incidents in which civilians & SFs have been killed by terrorists, it will take me a few hours at least.

The seven states have an insurgency problem. But, compared to Pakistan this is negligible. Your entire country is one big hell hole....I suppose it makes you feel important when you attempt to make a comparison with India.

When you copy paste, why paste only selective data?

From 1994-2005, India has had 18151 civilians killed, 6728 Security Forces & 22492 terrorists killed.

Even during the WOT being thrusted on Pakistan from Afghanistan, from 2003-2011, Pakistan has had less casualties from terrorism than India.

Pakistan has had 11672 civilian deaths, 3927 security forces & 21935 terrorists killed.

So don't bring up Pakistan in a thread that has nothing to do with it.

Firstly,you should provide the source.
Secondly,if you want to share some data, then it is better to share the entire data, else it looks like you are tampering with it.
The total number of deaths in all of these explosions is 6 and number of people injured is 29,from the same source.
Now,if we compare that data with any province of Pakistan of your choice, the figure looks very small.

Look,I don't deny that there are separatists in NE,who had a different way of looking at things, had separatist ideology and thought killing innocent people in the market is a pretty cool idea to demand independence,or whatever.
We tool care of those problems properly. While in the present World the problems related to militancy is increasing at an alarming rate everywhere, and going more and more out of control even as we speak,India stands as an exception. Our security forces worked with our neighbouring countries to curb militancy and it the results are positive.

I have already copied all the terrorist incidents in all the 7 sister states, & 99.9% of them are non-bomb related. I've listed them in great detail, & you can read them when you want to. Now, if you want to look at the bomb related incidents & gloat, be my guest.

Your country has seen more deaths from terrorism from 1994-2005 than Pakistan has seen since the global WOT in 2001. Your national capital & financial hub got bombed badly as well even though you aren't even involved in the WOT, & don't have to face its consequences in your country.

LOL...Forget 1994, lets try 2000 ...Pakistanis beat us poor Indians even then...:P

LIES. Pakistanis have been dying like flies ever since 9/11:sniper:

A report by a US pressure group released in Islamabad on Thursday (December 9) says Pakistan’s government is overlooking the scale of civilian casualties in its war against militants and it will lose credibility unless actions are taken to ease the suffering.

The Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict (CIVIC) says there were probably more civilian casualties in Pakistan in 2009 than in neighbouring Afghanistan.

Christopher Rogers, author of the study, said the number of civilian casualties – deaths and injuries – is significant in Pakistan, though exact figures are unknown due to insecurity and government restrictions on information.

“One of the more surprising findings was that civilian casualties in Pakistan are even greater than those in Afghanistan. There have been over 2,100 civilian deaths in 2009 from terrorism alone in Pakistan and a comparable number thus far in 2010. In Afghanistan there are about the same number of civilians killed but from all forms of conflict-related violence including NATO airstrikes, artillery crossfire between militants and ISAF armed forces,” Rogers said.

The study was based on interviews over the past year with policymakers, NGO officials, and over 160 Pakistani civilians who suffered direct losses from the conflict in the northwest.

Pakistan’s government faces al-Qaeda linked Taliban insurgents who are pressing on with a campaign of suicide bombings that have killed civilians, police and soldiers, despite a series of army offensives against them that started last year.

The UN says more than 2,400 civilians were killed in Afghanistan in 2009. CIVIC said civilian casualties in Pakistan probably exceeded the numbers in Afghanistan if losses from Pakistani military operations and US drone strikes are counted.

Rogers said CIVIC’s research and that of other independent non-government organizations indicate that the number of civilians killed and injured by drone strikes is higher than the US government admits.

“It’s almost certain that US drone strikes are causing more civilian casualties than the United States has thus far admitted. The US has claimed that there have been only 10 non-combatants killed this year, and from January 2009 to March 2010 it publicised a figure of only 20 civilians killed. By contrast, our organization found 30 civilian deaths in just nine cases that we investigated – all since 2009 – including 14 women and children,” Rogers said.

Missile strikes by CIA-operated pilotless drone aircraft have killed high-profile militants in northwest Pakistan, but Pakistan worries civilian casualties caused by the attacks inflame public anger and bolster support for the fighters.

Coinciding with the release of the CIVIC report, dozens of people, mostly from North Waziristan, staged a sit-in to protest drone attacks they say are being carried out by CIA, killing “innocent civilians”.

Kareem Khan, a tribesman whose brother and son were killed by what he said was a U.S. drone strike on his house in North Waziristan last year, is seeking compensation from the United States.

“There are two or three attacks almost every day. Innocent people are being killed in these attacks. All of them are innocent,” Khan said.

He said the drone attacks had destroyed not only businesses, but also education in Waziristan because children were scared to go out. People could not sleep at night, fearing they may become the next victim of a missile attack.

Mohammad Faheem, an 18-year-old student of 9th grade in North Waziristan, who lost his left eye in a drone attack in January 23, 2009, had come from his village to protest against the drone attacks.

Faheem said he was sitting with two cousins and some five or six guests outside his guestroom when a missile fired from a drone struck them.

“Three four drones were flying overhead but we did not expect them to attack because we are not terrorists, why should they attack us? But suddenly, while we were having tea and chatting the drones attacked us,” he said.

Seven people, including his cousins, were killed. Faheem was critically injured.

Seventeen-year-old Sadaullah was having tea after breaking his fast in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, in October last year when a missile hit his house.

Sadaullah lost both his legs and an eye in the attack.

“One man was injured; my legs were cut off and three people were martyred,” the youngster said.

The report says most civilian victims expressed anger at the warring parties for their losses, and many “placed the blame squarely on the Pakistani and US militaries.”

Almost all victims insisted that the Pakistani or US governments had a responsibility to make amends, “an acknowledgement of the harm suffered and an offer of assistance or compensation.”

While the report noted that the Pakistani government was the only party attempting to make amends directly to civilian war victims, it said more compensation was needed.

“Most victims interviewed were left without amends for their losses due to serious deficiencies in Pakistani compensation mechanisms and no US effort to help those harmed by its combat operations; this, despite US programmes for such victims in Iraq and Afghanistan,” the report said.

Pakistani deaths exceed Afghan in terror war: report | World | DAWN.COM

Rawalpindi: Over 30,000 Pakistani civilians and armed forces personnel have been killed or injured since the global war on terror began in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, while over 17,000 terrorists have been killed or captured, the country’s military said Thursday.

According to data released by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), from 9/11 till now, 30,452 people have been killed or injured. These include 21,672 civilians and 8,785 military personnel.

In 2009 alone, when the Pakistani military went into action against the Taliban in the country’s restive northwest, 10,000 people were killed, Online news agency reported.

While the breakup of civilian casualties was not given, the ISPR said 78 Pakistani military officers and 2,273 soldiers were killed, while 6,512 were injured.

Pakistan has seen a rash of terror attacks and suicide bombings in the last nine years that have largely targeted civilians, killing a number of women and children.

According to ISPR, 10 soldiers were killed every day since 2009, while 1,582 Afghanistan based US and NATO troops have been killed.

ISPR said 17,742 terrorists had been killed and captured since the war on terror began.

It also pointed out that Pakistan had set up 821 check-posts along the hostile Pakistan-Afghanistan border while the coalition forces in Afghanistan had only set up 112.

Some 140,000 Pakistani troops are manning the Pakistan-Afghanistan border to check infiltration of terrorists and other suspicious activities while the coalition has 100,000 of its troops on the frontier, ISPR said.

Nineteen thousand Pakistani killed in "War on Terror": Marc Grossman | Pakistan Today | Latest news, Breaking news, Pakistan News, World news, business, sport and multimedia
WASHINGTON - USA special representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan Affairs, Marc Grossman has admitted that number of Pakistani civilians killed in terrorist attacks since 2003, is just enormous at Nineteen thousand.
During his recent interview, he cites this as an important implication that extremism and terrorism was a threat to Pakistan; as it was equally to Afghanistan, and United States: stressing that a joint effort on behalf of all three countries should be able to work together deal with this problem.
He said that Pakistan and USA were trying to seek conducive course of action to safeguard mutual interests, as equally stressed by USA President Obama about importance of Pakistanis focusing in on the terrorist question besides the need for engagement between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Replying to a question, he rejected the notion that Pakistan Army and other institutions in Pakistan were funded by USA (using USA aid) to kill Afghanis through 'Haqqani Network'. He said that Pakistan had some very important work to do in the anti-terrorism area.
He said that it was true with the 'Haqqani network issue', but this should not be of any great surprise, because extremism and terrorism were undoubtedly a threat to Pakistan and as expounded by President Obama, Secretary Clinton and other leaders in the United States and Pakistan had to do some work counter-terrorism.
Marc Grossman outrightly rejected the recently convened APC (All-Party Conference) as purely a Pakistani issue, stressing that Pakistani parliamentarians, members of civil society , masses should realize that terrorism and extremism were a threat against them; considering massive civilian/military losses.
Reminding that Pakistan and the United States actually have collaborated extremely effectively on the question of al-Qaida, he quoted what President Obama stated on numerous occasions about an effective campaign against Al-Qaida terrorists in Pakistan, compared to other countries.

He was confident that government of Pakistan did recognize the threat of extremism and terrorism and would resolve the issue.

Interesting website. I was surprised to read about the sheer amount of violence in India's neighboring countries. It does make India look pretty.

Yeah well thats our war of terror.

I'm sorry, but that is your 'internal' war, & does not have to do with geopolitics (& global implications) the same way the current 'global' WOT has.

A record number of Pakistani civilians and security forces died in militant violence last year as the country reeled from an onslaught of Taliban suicide bombings that propelled it into the ranks of the world's most perilous places.

Pakistan saw 3,021 deaths in terrorist attacks in in 2009, up 48% on the year before, according to a new report by the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), an Islamabad-based defence thinktank. Researchers counted a total of 12,600 violent deaths across the country in 2009, 14 times more than in 2006.

At least half of the dead were militants who were killed in US drone strikes or, mostly, sweeping army offensives against their mountain strongholds of Swat and South Waziristan along the Afghan border. Another 2,000 or so Pakistanis died in bloodshed unrelated to militancy: political clashes, tribal feuds and border skirmishes.

In comparison just over 2,000 civilians were killed in war-torn Afghanistan during the first ten months of 2009, according to the UN. In Iraq 4,500 civilians were killed during the year, said Iraq Body Count, an independent monitoring organisation.

The high militant death toll in Pakistan was driven by the army operations, although battlefield casualty figures are notoriously difficult to confirm. The army dislodged the Taliban from their Swat stronghold but failed to capture the local leader, Maulana Fazlullah, who reportedly slipped into Afghanistan.

In October the army moved into South Waziristan, capturing roads and towns but not the militant leadership, which is thought to have moved into North Waziristan, a hornet's nest of militancy, where speculation is growing that the army will open a third front.

The army has failed to stop the suicide attacks, which surged by one third to 87 bombings that killed 1,300 people and injured 3,600. PIPS researcher Abdul Basit said the militants were using "innovative tactics" such as targeted assassinations, kidnapping and the use of sophisticated bomb materials. "This year they were more technologically savvy," he said.

The strife is frazzling public opinion. A recent Gallup poll found that four-fifths of Pakistanis feel unsafe in public. "Life has completely changed for everyone," said Ali Mustafa, a doctor whose best friend was gunned down during a "swarm" attack on a Rawalpindi mosque in December.

The new year started as badly as the last one ended: a Taliban suicide attack on a volleyball match near South Waziristan on January 1 killed over 90 people. In recent days, Karachi has been wrenched by a spate of politically driven killings, unlinked to Taliban militancy, that have killed about 40 people.

Imtiaz Gul, author of a book on militancy, said that although only a small number of al-Qaida fighters were hiding in Pakistan, the group provided the inspiration for much for the mayhem. "What we see in this region right now is a fusion of interests and ideologies," he said. "Al-Qaida is connecting people."

The tight bond between homegrown and foreign militants was underscored at the weekend when a video emerged showing the Taliban leader, Hakimullah Mehsud, sitting beside Humam Khalil Abu Mulal al-Balawi, the Jordanian suicide bomber who killed seven CIA operatives at a base in southern Afghanistan on December 30.

Pakistan has become a magnet for aspiring jihadis across the world, partly thanks to the power of the internet. Yesterday five young American Muslims went on trial in the eastern city of Sargodha. They are accused of coming to the country to try and plot terrorist attacks. The men deny the charges.
