Secularism is the way forward

Secularism alone is responsible for more human killings than all of the religious extremism from all religions. Just check the previous century.

Was religion involved in any of the World Wars? 7 million people died in those wars.

How many times did religious nations invade other nations? mostly the secular nations invaded the weaker nations.

Allama Iqbal describes it best in this verse:

Translation:

Monarchy or democracy, Statecraft divorced from 'Deen' leads to a reign of (state) terror.

Bangladesh is a homogeneous country, so there goes the ethnic violence out the window. Secondly, it was the secular leaderships of Pakistan (Musharraf) who made decisions which have caused extremism to flourish and intensify in the last decade.

Pakistan must implement limited secularism and not rid the state of religion completely, otherwise you are taking away Pakistan's sole reason for which it was created; to give Muslims a separate homeland from the hindu majority india.

They have another, more comprehensive, term for that - Pluralism ! That is...religious and legal pluralism with complete impartiality by those in charge of Governance; which is to say that, unlike, Secularism one may table a religion inspired resolution in the Parliament but at the same time our mantra would be 'equal rights, privileges and obligations for all' !

Quote by Nawaz:

Secatrianism has been flourishing in Pakistan since the miliatry coup of 1977. However,
there were no targeted sectarian attacks until SSP and Sepahe Mohammedia came into existence in the 1980s.

Lashkar-e-Jhangvi or LJ in particular is the main militant organization targeting Shias. It has operated in Pakistan since Sepah-e-Sehaba (SSP) activist Riaz Basra broke away from the SSP in 1996 and formed LJ. Riaz Basra gained notoriety when he orchestrated the assassination of Iranian diplomat Sadiq Ganji in Lahore. Basra was also involved in the killing of Iranian Air Force cadets visiting Pakistan in the early 1990s, when sectarian attacks on Shias in Pakistan were at their peak. Both acts occurred in the northern city of Rawalpindi and greatly disturbed contemporary Pakistan-Iran relations.

All of that sectarian violence in the 1980s & ethnic violence in Sindh & Jeay Sindh movement & unrest in Balochistan was a direct consequence of Pakistan's involvement in Afghan Jehad and it's backlash instigated by USSR/India duo.

Such militancies have again surfaced as Afghanistan is again occupied. USSR is no more in Picture; duo now consists of USA/India.

Purpose at both times was the same: to weaken Pakistan. Pakistanis were smart enough to learn from the past. This time, religious violence was readily reckoned to have a foreign involvement. It could not be propagated; same is about separatist movements - they are weaker than ever. The ethnic violence in Karachi looks more like a turf war between Zardari and MQM.

forget about names librial secular extremest
is it so wrong that i want my country to work for a better future to all my country men what ever their religion or skin coulor is ?and every citzien to be equal ? what is wrong with that

The real point of difference is control of some people by others eg imperialism v masses.

In general control of land, its resources, means of production and distribution was always in hands of people individuals or groups who were powerful. They ruled masses as kings, as religious leaders=priests or as being bankers.

They made rules and laws and devised procedures and methods that secured their positions against the interest of masses.

Masses always agitated against them and chipped away their power and control bit by bit as time went on.

Masses also used similar ideas to fight for their freedom and so forced establishments give up some of their power. This tug-of-war will continue till it reaches a point where things become equally beneficial for all.

The quran has already told us that islam will succeed in the end not because of violent jihaad by mullahs but because education will become available much more widely and as masses will become aware of what is going on what should be done to make things better people will have no choice but to give way to peace. When people will look for peace between themselves they will need terms and condition upon which peace could be agreed and so the quranic predictions will find their fulfilment.

This is exactly what quranic islam is all about. Nothing at all to do with capitalism based secular democracy nor mullahs based islam that was invented by mullahs to make way and give security to some people from among muslims to be kings. This is why establishment always backed mullahs and mullahs always backed establishment.

This alliance will break down at one point and then will come about real understanding of real islam.

Islam is all about freedom, justice, fairness, compassion, brotherhood, progress and prosperity for all so that a society comes about that is good for humanity itself.

Islam is the goal set by Allah for mankind to achieve and maintain. The quran is the manifesto for islam so that people spread it and come together if they like the program laid down in it and so that they form a society based upon the quran as its constitution.

All this is a program to turn this world in to a paradise and also be awarded for doing that in hereafter as a result.

Pakistan cannot be a secular country, there are countless reasons in support of this argument, but the first one for me is that our founding fathers didn't want Pakistan to be a secular state, so I just want to follow what they dreamed of.

My signature is enough to give a shut-up call to all the voices supporting secularism in Pakistan.

You have islamic law in iran and saudi arabia ,they are hardly paradises.
As for the brotherhood, justice and equality on paper thats what communism is about too.And that didn't work out too well.To think people will not take advantage of each other given the chance because of a idealogy is a naive idealistic dream.

Saudi has a lot of cultural laws that have nothing do with Islam which are repressive. For example, women can't drive

The term (secularism) has become far too controversial to be used in political discourse in many parts of the Muslim world, where it is often considered synonymous with 'Western/American values being imposed on Muslims to destroy Islam'.

It would be far better to talk about changes in the system in more general terms - changing the system to reflect equality, justice and freedom for everyone, regardless of faith, gender or race.

The name of the system is not the issue, the values the system promotes are the issue.

The fact is that, Turkish industrialization began with Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the man who introduced secularism to Turkey. Every country in Europe has religious parties too, but it don't make them theocratic countries.

Look at the map: who is the most stable country in the Muslim World?

Very true, all these so called islamists slam ataturk, but what they don't understand that ataturk understood from his long struggle with the europeans that if he didn't westernize his backward country it would end up a european colony possibly under greek domination.

People in the Muslim World don't want to see the other side of the glass. They are living with their Muslim unity dreams. But it's time to wake up for them, today's wars are not based on religion but based on ideological and political diferences.

Now, Turkey is ruling by AKP, a conservative liberal party. People in the Muslim World are thinking that AKP will bring theocracy back to Turkey, however AKP wants to promote secularism in Egypt, Syria etc. It's all about the system in Turkey, secularism established well in minds.

I hope Pakistan and many other countries will catch the train and will go through the modernization.
