I say English and Urdu

Yes stick to urdu as your language for communication with people from different provinces and to be used in government related jobs offices etc but please stick to your mother tongue I went to Lahore recently and you dont know how disappointed I was every single person I met felt awkward in speaking punjabi which pissed me off

Regional Languages should be under the provincial govt I would support a policy of bilingualism on the National it should be Urdu and English

Farsi and Dari should have been chosen as our "national language" when we gained our independence in 1947 making Urdu as national language it was a plain mistake

Urdu was already medium of education
No one knew Farsi in Pakistan
If Farsi is taught in schools from class 1 as a compulsory subject like English then most of the students will be able to understand it in few years
And the reason Pakistani schools are not English medium is because it's difficult for most of the students to study in English medium

Let's try to learn our mother tongue first our population is turning more burger as the days go past and please keep your ambitions off introducing arabic or Persian to yourself

Those people who don't live in Pakistan their children will speak Urdu or other languages like Bilawal
But no language is under threat in Pakistan

Is there a comprehension dilemma with you? The title stipulates the alternatives for a second language, meaning Urdu is already the priority. I think your head is a bit mashed . I was only challenging your hideous idea off introducing Arabic because apparently it would give us strong ties with the useless Arab nations which is absolute bullshit.And as for the second language its very clear from my part it should be English across the country but introducing second language would cause more challenges to the already weakened local languages off Pakistan.
Conclusion should there be a second language like English yes absolutely but not at the comprise off local languages

Pakistani's have been trying their luck with English for as long as this country came into being. Its about time that they started treating it as a language and not as a subject.

English is our official language we not trying we perfect in it. From Govt to semi or private offices industries using English for corespondents/communication.

Classical Arabic, Persian and Urdu should be taught in every school in every Muslim country. Most of the Muslim history, philosophy, and religious texts are in these languages. So why wouldn't you want to learn about that?

A people who are devoid of their own history are bound to run around the world headless. Just like Pakistan is now.

Those ideas are outdated now. Grow up. The only thing updated of Islamic texts left is the Quran, and religious texts.

And I would rather have them in Urdu than have to learn some other race's language to whom I don't relate with at all.

2. Arabic 3. Dari. Arabic as the Quran is in Arabic. Dari as historically this was the lingua franca of Pakistan for 600 years before the armies of the first empire of the Anti Christ destroyed it. Pakistan's Islamic history and a lot of non islamic history is in Dari.

Just want to have an idea of the general thought over it.

Let’s finalize on the first language before jumping to the second language.

In USA first language is English and second language is Spanish.

That’s just what I was thinking, Pakistan is a bit like the Switzerland of the region because it is at a crossroads of Central Asia, Mid East & South Asia. So 3 language policy should be there as a minimum.



Dari is logical, but how many people have historically spoken it in the land of Pakistan? Languages are either established by force or neccesity. If Pakistanis had a lot of business interests, need to travel to Iran/non Pashto Afghanistan then it would be picked up naturally.

I think at this point in time, we should promote our regional languages. I also think the Kashmiri language channel should be established by Pak (the actual one spoken in IOK) as a side note.

My great grandfather was a Punjabi villager that could speak Dari and also Arabic along with Urdu and Punjabi. The man only had madrassa level education.

Lahore is absolute trash. I went to that packages mall recently and couldn’t believe the amount of homosexuals I saw with skinny jeans on. And I mean they were being openly gay with their partners. Lahore is as Punjabi as Sri Lanka. Faisalabad, Gujarat, and Saiwaal is the home of real Punjabis.

English is the only useful one for education, science, and technology in this day and age.

Picking a second language as a nation is an artificial concept. Rather we should have language classes in school so kids from lets say grade 3 onwards can start learning a foreign language. But mind you its a foreign language and will be done to only expand kids brains as at young age, kids can pickup vocabulary very easily.

People who are advocating against it in comments, are probably under the impression that we want imitate other foreign people. Knowing a foreign lang is an asset. People in developed countries like UK, learn languages for fun and it pays of later in life, when we can travel to those places and communicate with locals, expand businesses.

But adopting a second language as a nation is not realistic. I do however feel if people have a chance they’ll pick MSA, cos its spoken in quarter of the world.
