Second F-22P Frigate arrives in Pakistan

Why doesn't Pakistan acquire destroyers for that is what PN really needs at the moment. India's submarine fleet is quite formidable considering its induction into the service nuclear subs.

Nowadays frigates are powerful enough to do the work which PN has to do, that is to defend its sea lanes. PN is not a blue water navy, nor wishes to become one. Its primary concern is to keep the sea lanes open and its shore line defended, which can be done through frigates, so why then have large destroyers. But yeah we do need a bigger frigate class compared to the ones we currently have, with a good SAM system.

Destroyers become very large, operational costs increase.

Pakistan's second F-22P frigate enters service

Tim Fish Jane's Naval Reporter - London

The Pakistan Navy's second Sword-class (F-22P) frigate entered operational service during a ceremony at Pakistan Naval Dockyard in Karachi on 8 February.

PNS Shamsheer is one of three F-22P units built by Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua to a modified Jiangwei II (Type 053H3) design, under an agreement between Islamabad and Bejing signed in April 2005. The ship was commissioned on 19 December 2009 following sea trials.
