SCO promises hope

Thanks mate to be honest I do not want India in. Though I can see benefits I would rather you were on America's side. I would be happy for India to continue being isolated in our neighjbourhood

To be honest, we have our shares of work to do within our own territorial boundaries (read reforms), before that i don't see any use in joining international groups to increase your global signature. And the presence required can be fulfilled by our own diplomacy, i don't see any use of SCO for India.

And what isolation are you talking about? can you be a little more specific.

That's right. China+Russia+Iran+Pakistan+Central Asia... our alignment is almost always the same on international issues.

The Syria veto for instance. Almost the whole world (USA+Nato+West+Middle East) were screaming at us, and warning us NOT to veto the Syria resolution.

India went along with them of course.

China and Russia ignored them, and vetoed it anyway.

The SCO is all about energy.

I know I was just being polite lol. The above countries interests converge so some type of alliance is inevitable

that's not what your leaders are saying.

I haven't seen any serious statement from senior leadership of India for joining SCO. Compare this with lobbying India is doing for joining UNSC.

You have no chance of joining the UNSC, since the UN charter requires UNANIMOUS approval from all the P-5 members, before allowing new permanent members.

You can stay as a non-permanent UNSC member though. :P

I don't know, they're behaving like ladies who wants to attend every kitty-party.

They want to play safe. They want to play on both sides of the wicket. :D

Great strategy in my opinion.

The objectives of SCO are unclear. Though, AFAIK Russia is trying to make it an energy club.

I have read lots of material and ultimately I think Chinese and Russian Presidents want to push for it to be a counterweight to Nato and encourage a multi polar world

It is a different discussion whether India has any chance of joining UNSC or not. As far as SCO is concerned, it Russia that wants India in than India wanting to be part of SCO

The objectives of SCO are unclear. Though, AFAIK Russia is trying to make it an energy club.

The SCO is a mutual security organization, that is focused on energy security and border security in the Central Asian region.

Central Asia is one of the most energy-rich regions in the world.

Border security is also a concern recently, with some militants moving between the borders in Central Asia. The SCO is also strongly focused on fighting against militant outfits that exist in the region.

It is more of Russia that wants this to be a counterweight to NATO than China. China's economy is too intertwined with US's.

Although SCO objectives are unclear, Russia is trying to make it a counterweight to NATO. Under Putin, this is going to be intensified further
