IDEX 2015: Saudi, Qatari THAAD contracts in the pipeline
Qatar and Saudi Arabia will each order Lockheed Martin's Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) ballistic missile defence system, although it could be up to three years before the contracts are finalised, according to Mike Trotsky, the vice-president of Air and Missile Defense at Lockheed Martin.
The US Defense Security Co-operation Agency (DSCA) announced in November 2012 that Qatar had requested the sale of THAAD and PAC-3 missiles and, although a contract has been signed for the latter, the THAAD contract has yet to emerge.
"Right now [the Qataris] are in the process of deciding what their defence design should be in conjunction with the [US] Missile Defense Agency and Lockheed Martin," Trotsky told journalists at the IDEX show in Abu Dhabi.
