Saudi 'detains' Mecca imam who 'challenged mixed gatherings'

How easily you associate Indians with RSS..!!
Not all Indians are RSS, heck not all Indians are even Hindu.

You see the world with your hateful glasses , everything looks extreme to you.

I have been very vocal about my hatred towards all religious scum be it RSS or ISIS or any other jamati.

Please don’t quote me if you don’t have anything to comment on the topic at hand in this thread.

You are an RSS scum through and through, hence you support oppression in Muslim lands. Your hatred for persecuted Muslims is clear.

All worked up ...!! Good..!

I am for freeing Muslims from ultra religious extremism and oppression from mullahs just like yourself.

May the world including Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh be free from extremist scoundrels.

May the almighty help MBS implement more such reforms.

Why is a bangladeshi in a twist? Lol

As the good house slave that he is, he is in constant need of pleasing/following foreigners. The same individual was praising KSA years ago (pre-reforms) but now has preferred to please "sausages" made in Turkey (Erdogan) and made in Iran (Khamenei).

Personally I could not be more happy that such people have nothing to do with us other than barking against us. Long may it continue as associating yourself with such people (in any way, shape or form) is harmful.

Another shah
We all know that went ;)

What makes you think that? What are your arguments to prove this theory?

The reality is that you cannot compare what the last Shah of Iran did (paternal grandson of a horse stapler at the Dutch embassy) with what MbS is doing. First of all, this is year 2018, not 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. A very different world.

Secondly none of the reforms have been extreme but rather as a result of popular will which previously was surpassed as caution (in terms of reforms) was preferred to please the minority of ultraconservatives that thought that they owned the country. Since that group of people is diminishing each week (70%+ of the population is below 30 years of age, highly educated on average, much interconnected with the world, social media, traveling outside of the country and neighboring GCC states etc.) their influence likewise.

Nothing in certain in life expect for death but I am pretty sure (as sure as I can be) that no such thing will occur in KSA. You know what? Because MbS is doing what most people (youth) want him to do by large. Hence the massive support for him and enthusiasm that I don't remember witnessing ever.

Don't compare KSA with Iran. No comparison. We are lightyears ahead of them today (on most fronts) let alone their situation 40 years ago.

I am sorry to tell you the reality but you are surrounded by Western culture and technology everywhere. Even you using PDF is an example of that and the internet.

You should not be afraid of KSA as we are one of the most proud nations on the planet with one of the strongest cultures that have not been defeated by any culture in history. That is why, despite enjoying all the luxuries of the modern-day world, we are deeply connected to our culture. Most clearly manifested by our clothing for those who are completely ignorant about what is going on in KSA. We proudly wear it unlike others in the region who copied the West on this front. Same with traditional pursuits like falconry, horse racing, hunting, poetry etc. Architecture is another living example.

You don't understand the psyche of Saudi Arabians and the great attachment that we give to tradition. Even the most Westernized lot (like me, that have degrees from leading Western universities and have lived in the West, speak several foreign languages and know those societies in and out) remain faithful to the cores and fundaments of our rich culture and traditions.

What is going on in KSA is a return to the real KSA. What it was like pre "Islamic Revolution" and Sahwa period.

There is no comparison.

BTW, KSA has never been a Western colony. Not a single Westerner has ruled over us. Or any foreigner for that reason other than fellow Semites and Arabs outside of small parts of Arabia being under Roman rule and a few other foreign rules. Ottomans (2/3 of all Ottomans were fellow Arabs and Ottoman culture was basically Arab culture by large on most fronts) did not rule anything in Hijaz, as the local Sharif of Makkah did (second most important figure after the Sultan himself). "Westernization" always occurred in KSA within the limits of the culture and traditions and at a pace that the people could accept. It's the same situation today.

Nobody believes about any ridiculous "puppet" talk outside of a minority of extremists.

I am not an admirer of the Iranian government but does Saudia have a space program?? Iran at least has a primitive one.

Saudi Arabia and Russia Deepen Space Cooperation, Agree on Joint Space Exploration Projects

H.M.King Salman of Saudi Arabia signed an agreement with President Vladimir Putin of Russia on Thursday, October 5, 2017, committing both countries to space exploration cooperation.

The agreement was one of many signed between the two leaders as King Salman made a state visit to Russia on October 4-6, 2017.

This space exploration agreement is part of an overall commitment between Riyadh and Moscow to cooperate on a range of space issues, and is but one of several areas in which King Salman and President Putin have pledged deeper ties, cementing a significant geopolitical shift in the Middle East that has occurred over the past five years.

While specific details about the space exploration agreement are not available, it is the result of high level discussions between senior officials from the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research in Moscow.

The agreement can be seen as a microcosm of Russia’s resurgent influence in the Middle East since its active intervention in the Syrian civil war in 2015, as well as the relative decline of U.S. influence in the region. It is also a sign that major regional powers in the Middle East, such as Saudi Arabia, are both seeking to accommodate the reality of Russian influence as well as hedging their strategic bets on global great power competition and its intersection in one of the world’s most geopolitically consequential parts of the world.

This is especially the case when it comes to space. Saudi Arabia, along with its ally and neighbour the United Arab Emirates, has been assiduous in its efforts to cultivate close and substantive ties with the space agencies of leading space powers such as the United States, China, Europe, Russia, India, and Japan.

Over the past several weeks alone it has been reported that the UAE and Russia are in discussions about training and launching Emirati astronauts as Abu Dhabi embarks on its own human space flight programme.

In the case of Saudi-Russian cooperation, Saudi Arabia brings much needed financial resources to a struggling space programme, while Russia brings potential technology and science transfers in space launch, planetary sciences, space probe technologies, human space flight, and space mission design, planning, architectures, and operations.

The agreement signed in Moscow last week builds on a broader space cooperation arrangement thought to have been initially signed by Saudi Arabia and Russia in 2015. Reports at the time even suggested that both countries were looking at developing a manned space station, though nothing has since been heard about this alleged project.

Geopolitically, closer Saudi-Russian Cooperation in a variety of fields and sectors – space exploration, energy, defence, and others – is not only indicative of a power vacuum created by a relative decline of U.S. influence in the region, but also a desire on the part of the Saudis to persuade the Russians to reign in Iranian influence throughout Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon through economic and security inducements that Iran cannot possibly provide.

SPA, Riyadh
Friday, 15 June 2018

Saudi Arabia, represented by the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), has achieved new heights in the region and in the Islamic world by succeeding in taking satellite images using Saudi systems for exploration and surveillance of the moon as part of a joint space mission with China.

On Sunday, May 20th, efforts in this regard by both countries resulted in the launch of the space mission, Zhang E4, from the city of Xichang to reach the moon.

The joint mission came following Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to China in May 2017 where a memorandum of understanding was signed between both countries. It also comes in accordance with the culture of research, development and innovation at KACST, emanating the kingdom’s Vision 2030.

Three satellites were launched as part of the space mission to orbit the moon and carry out several experiments and research. The goal was to place one of the satellites in orbit beyond ‘Lagrange Point L2’ to form a communication network with Earth. The dark side of the moon does not face Earth, making it difficult to communicate except if a satellite existed there.

A series of photos were taken, the first on the fifth of June from a height of 1598 kilometers from the surface of the moon. The picture of the earth and the moon was taken together using the Saudi remote sensing system ‘Lunang Giang’ fixed on the satellite, where the globe was filmed in addition to several craters from the moon’s surface.

The President of KACST Prince Turki bin Saud bin Mohammed stressed the importance of the Saudi institution’s participation in this major international event, which will support its efforts in developing satellite technologies and use them in various fields, like remote sensing and space communications.

He added that on this mission, they are working on collecting more data from the surface of the moon.

Great news and another sign of the close and constantly improving Saudi Arabia (Arab) and China (Chinese) ties.

What has that to do with the topic anyway?

KSA is far ahead of Iran when it comes to high-quality scientific output despite Iran having a 2.5 times larger population. No contest.

https://www.natureindex.com/annual-tables/2018/country/all

BTW when did booze and mix parties become acceptable for Saudi Islamic culture ???

What are you blabbering about?

Pre-Islamic Arabia was one of the largest wine exporters (even exported to nearby Roman Empire and Greece) as well as other alcoholic beverages (beer, spiritus etc.). Even in the Islamic era alcohol was consumed although much less for obvious reasons. Today, it barely is consumed by anyone.

Well, you said that Saudia is far ahead of Iran in many aspects, so I asked you about one of the ultimate indicators of development of science and technology.

Congrats to Saudia for its interest and work in space travel and science. Space is the ultimate science that can create scientific temper among humans.

If Saudia is keen on this, it can financially support some team from the Google Lunar X Prize. Perhaps the Indian team ( Team Indus ) since one the articles you posted says that Saudia is collaborating with the Indian space agency.

Meet Mishaal Ashemimry, First Saudi Arabian Woman to Join NASA

Published September 17th, 2017 - 14:59 GMT

Mishaal Ashemimry is the first Saudi woman to join US space agency NASA.

Mishaal Ashemimry is an aerospace engineer and serves as CEO of MISHAAL Aerospace based in Miami, Florida. Her job consists of sending small satellites into orbit with cost-effective space access vehicles known as the M-Rocket Series.

“When I look back at the moment I was inspired, when I was six, it somehow puts things into perspective. I guess you can say I get my inspiration through my younger eyes staring at the sky in awe and enthusiasm,” Mishaal said in an interview.

“My fascination with space started while gazing at the stars in the Unayzah desert. Since then my focus has been to become an aerospace engineer and contribute to the development of space vehicles and rockets,” she said.

Ashemimry previously worked for Raytheon Missile Systems’ Aerodynamics Department and contributed to 22 different rocket programs. Her professional experience and areas of expertise include: aerodynamics, wind tunnel testing, vehicle design, predictive simulation and analysis and rocket stage-separation analysis, with a strong focus on computational tool development.

She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida Institute of Technology with two Bachelor of Science degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Applied Mathematics on May 5, 2006, and a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering on December 15, 2007. Her academic focus include experimental and analytical aerodynamics, rocket design and nuclear thermal propulsion.

As a graduate research assistant Ashemimry worked on a NASA Marshall Space Flight Center project on nuclear thermal propulsion. She analyzed and designed a new thermal nuclear rocket engine for Mars Missions for NASA. She analyzed and modeled the thermo-fluid behavior inside the nuclear core of the 1960s NERVA-Type reactors to better understand the issue of large wall thermal gradients and to benchmark codes to design our new nuclear thermal rocket engine.

The objective of her work is to design a nuclear thermal rocket that minimizes or eliminates the thermal issues experienced by the 1960s NERVA-Type reactors.

This is very good arrest. We like it hope government deal them with iron hands. We like this molvi in prison. He was doing violation of human rights.
These types of molvi has no place in Saudi Arabia.
Good work done by Saudi Arabia, we support our Saudi brothers , going at right path towards secularism , slowly but right in direction. Mashallah woman are allowed to drive, cinemas are opening, beaches are upgrading and special facilities for western tourists in future, lots of billion dollars program in place for tourism, beaches, roads etc.
