Oct 9 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's Aramco, the world's largest energy company, has discovered a new gas field in the Red Sea, 26 kilometres North West of the port of Daba, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday quoting the oil minister.

Gas flowed at the rate of 10 million cubic feet a day at a test well at the depth of 17,700 feet, Ali al-Naimi was quoted as saying.

Naimi said more wells would be drilled in order to evaluate the size of the field.

Saudi Aramco, the world's largest oil exporter, is looking for gas all over the kingdom to boost gas production to help meet rapidly rising Saudi fuel demand.

Saudi Arabia's oil and gas reserves mostly lie in the Eastern Province of the country.

Is it a big find ? I do not have enough knowledge of the oil reserves measurement ...

Prais to Allah almighty, Saudi Arabia is residing on Sea of wealth, more oil+Gas discoveries in Red Sea, the largest reserve of Phosphate in north western region as well and many other things, that includes gold, iron and minerals.

but the question would "we" the Saudi People reap the benifits, or as usual most of it will go into the pockets of the few?

I hope our future will be better than our present, Inshallallah

as i know it is a big find, specially the oil it is about 20%-25% increase in the current oil reserves, it comes also with a lot of gas but i don't know how much exactly, also there are more discoveries to be declared which inclludes the south west in Jizan another in the west Near laith (120 kilos south of Jeddah), another Oil field is located near rabigh (in the west).

Oh god, give something to India too . You have given them entire resource. :D Good for SA though.

I certainly hope so and wish you all the best ... :) Agreed , on the future part ...

Well , I doubt it to say the least ... Something along the line of 20-25 % is simply too much , it would have got a lot more media coverage if it was the case since the oil is running out according to the popular belief ...

Saudi Arabia has so much wealth Mashallah.

Kingdom should not 'waste' this wealth. Kingdom should invest this wealth in building indigenous capabilities in defence (specially Naval strength)...Saudi Arabia MUST promote industrialization of its land and help GCC to become a force to reckon with.

And Saudi Arabia must also use its wealth to spread Islam further .... Learn something from Christians on how they 'market' their faith.

Duba is a great small city by sea lot of fun there (but no girls on beaches allowed) I visited there once, nice experience!

congs to SA  now salary will increase next month?:azn:

LOL if it increases it wont be increasing for overseas like pakistanis in KSA! Saudis have become selfish.

Oil is formed after it stays underground , and forms from decay of carbon elements (plants , animals etc cabron )

Its facinating that once this land must have been green , lush with vegetation and animals must have roamed it .. before
one day it turned into desert that we know today ... perhaps the earth axis tilted which resulted in warmer weather and eventually it the remains of animals or plants were covered up by ever increasing dust ... and dry storms ... over millions of years past .. untill ... it became what it is now....

Land above and oil below ...
Miracle

it is that big and probably much more bigger, they don't announce it, these discoveries were made long time ago but it was kept undeclared and they now announced about some of it.

sorry i was not accuare about the 20%-25% because i was writing from my memory about 4 months old news, it is estimated to be around 18% "officially" in the ones that are "declared".

Saudi Arabia seeks Red Sea energy resources - The National

Saudi Arabia may consider drilling for oil in western province

Aramco has not released any estimates on the hydrocarbon potential in the Red Sea but its current studies have revealed a speculation that reserves under the seabed could contain as much as 50 billion barrels, which could eventually increase the kingdom’s reserves by another 18 per cent.

there are much more gas and oil in Saudi Arabia than what people think.
