Saudi Arabia denies funding extremism in Pakistan
Says the assistance ‘has always been beyond any sectarian considerations’

Saudi Arabia on Monday denied funding of what it called the extremist mind set through its financial support to religious seminaries in Pakistan.

“A section of the media has been propagating a false impression that Saudi Arabia is funding the extremist mind set in Pakistan through its financial support for religious seminaries,” Dawn quoted a press statement issued by the Saudi embassy in Islamabad.

“Whenever any seminary, mosque or charity organisation requests Saudi Arabia for financial assistance, the embassy refers the matter to the Pakistani government through the foreign ministry for examining the suitability of the applicant,” the statement added.

It went on to say that only “when the foreign ministry informs the embassy in writing that the financial assistance is in the interest of public welfare, the assistance is provided to the applicant... The assistance has always been beyond any sectarian considerations”.

The Saudi embassy’s statement comes weeks after Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Minister of Pakistan Riaz Hussain Pirzada accused the Saudi government of creating instability across the Muslim world by distributing money in order to promote religious extremism.

The minister had said that the time had come to stop the influx of Saudi money into Pakistan, which he claimed had a destabilising influence.

Now our government needs to stop blaming the world and get working on real measures. First root out the internal problems then the external ones can be answered. As for the whole issue of blaming Saudi by a minister it is saddening and embarrassing to the nation at large.

Well there is no denying the fact what Saudi's are doing not just in Pakistan but all over the world but then again you're right getting your own house in order will prevent outsiders taking advantage of the rot

Saudi is an ally and any problems should be discussed properly through channels.
Also too much focus is given to outside funding the issue is that there are radicals on the ground and those radicals can get money from crimes and kidnappings also. There is very positive news on the war against radical hate mongers and it is moving along at a controlled pace which is preventing backlash. Very mature step by step actions are being taken and uncalled for statements by ministers will only cause problems.
The minister in question has failed in his own job with provinces unable to move forward on so many issues and he should pay attention to that first.

Being allies with Saudi's is like a toxic handshake.. It will never be on equal terms, Unless that is if you're a American.. Earnestly hope Pakistan will solve it's internal issues, It's such a great country with so much potential.. And a unique identity that do not need to be influenced by some tribal Arabic customs

99% fault lies with Pakistani state and its officials who fail to control the local extremism and they dont act in time until it bites and bleeds us badly.
Saudis reacted to Iranian aggressive revolutionary campaign in Pakistan and it did play a part in violence against Iranians and Pakistani shia population but that was one thing, question is what effective measures did the state apply to stop / terminate funding of terrorist organisations and hate mongers? what was done to punish and discourage extremists? were the serial mass murderers on sectarian grounds punished? sadly to most the answer is No.

learning few things from the Saudis in controlling its population will help a lot .. the least it will do is prevent Peshawar massacres.

. .
Pakistan should blame themselves. It is their responsibility to control any such activities at any cost.Blaming foreign nations would be only helpful in revealing their incompetency.

.
Remember in the 90's the tall Arabs that moved to Peshawar and lived at University road and Shami road.... Who let them in!?

We did! We are to blame for any ill that befalls our country, when you the the home owner it is your duty to watch who you let into your house!
