What's new

'Sanskrit must be janbhasha; it's not a language of Brahmins alone' October

The approach to revive back Sanskrit from where it is now is a completely unreasonable and unfeasible. The grammar is not easy to learn and it is an impervious job to convince general hard working people why they should leave speaking a language they are comfortable with and using it for the last one thousand years.

Sanskrit shoulf be our National language ...

The most perfect Language of the world ... a language which is not named after its speakers and the word sanskrit itself means most perfected language ...

It means completed or finished.

Perfect language never get decline or dead and never taken over by others languages . If it was/is perfect language for communication then why its dead or not being used for communication today?

I think it was difficult to learn and practice for common people and was language of elite class

Sanskrit is common to most of the Indian languages, the words in Sanskrit are there in every language in India.

some people chant sanskrit words without even knowing the meaning of these words. Its same like some Muslims read/recite arabic without even knowing what they are reading but since these words are part of religious rituals so they memorised it. Urdu borrowed many words from farsi/arabic but that dont mean urdu speaker will understand farsi/arabic speaker or can communicate with them.
This should be fun....make a dead language the national language and when all government documents are published no one will be able to read it!

It would be great if you make it language of Bollywood. It will be fun to watch three khan or sunny leione/qatrina kaif speaking sanskirit :D

sanskrit was never a language of the masses, and I think brahmins made sure they had a monopoly on the language. Also its too much like a machine language (strict rules), not human language which evolves and takes ideas and words from other languages.

Y u so anti-Brahmin?

If at all social harmony and national unity are to be the goals then we can start with rather two more pragmatic approaches. Just remove all the cognomens from our names and abolish all reservation policies based on cast & religion. These two would yield much desirable and immediate results to move our national juggernaut towards progress, harmony and social integrity.

It can be done to request people to speak Sanskrit but it can not be forced on them at the same time. We do live not in Stalinist Iron dome, but in a country which had been known to the world for it's tolerance towards diversities and it's unique ability to absorb people from different blocks of race, language and religion amalgamating into itself. Forcing Sanskrit on it's people would mean the very dejection of it's own five thousand years of remarkable quality itself.

And be political suicide for whichever poor sap of a mantri tries. Try removing caste bias in the Bihar/UP belt, I can guarantee you that you will be either laughed at or thrown head first into the Ganga.

Caste is unfortunately here to stay till radical steps are taken and after Ambedkar and Lohia there is no visionary capable of leading a real struggle against it. Lohia was the last true leader capable of leading a grass roots movement against caste but his incessant barrages against Congress from day one ensured that he was side-lined.

Perfect language doesn't mean it ll survive.

The religious texts are still there, scholars are still around and many western people also study it.

Any surviving language doesn't have to be the perfect one.

Completely agreed. UP is a country within a country itself and it demands a real Dabang style government in the centre to take such gutsy steps perhaps putting their own political careers at a stake. Again these can not be done in one or two months.Perhaps we won't live to see the day it happens but the process must start, slowly everywhere.

While trying to revive lost glory of Samaskritam , Country should start celebrating Tamil before it meets similar end.

We most definitely won't live to see the day that caste will be rendered irrelevant. Every socio-economic theory known the man has been ground into the dust by the caste system. Even our Christians and Muslims have certain pseudo caste like structures, almost as congealed as the caster bias present in states like UP, and that's saying something since these religions expressly forbid any such bias or discrimination. In India the caste system has subverted nigh everything- from governments, politics, education to even economics.

I would like to be more optimistic on that regard. :undecided:
But my personal war against caste shall continue. :D Initially my parents were like - WTF...now they have accepted it gracefully. One day the whole country will. Power to us.

Agreed to an extent. Sanskrit is kind of like Latin for Europeans. Many European languages like English/French/German have Latin roots, but there are very few people that can actually speak Latin today. Same with Sanskrit.
