It was a move introduced to limit expenditure at weddings and ease the burden on the girls side who have to host all the functions. A government bans means the girls side can go cheap without looking bad.

Uninvited guests at reception upset Sania, Shoaib

Lahore, Apr 26: Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik were forced to leave their reception even before the scheduled time as uninvited guests, heavy security arrangements and energy conversation measures enforced by local administration proved to be too much to handle for the newly weds.

As per media reports, scores of uninvited guests reportedly showed up at the reception, which was held in Sialkot hockey ground.


Adding to this disarray was the heavy security arrangements of the Pakistan Punjab Police and the alleged mismanagement of the same as well as the local administration's persistence asking the organisers to take down additional lighting arrangements.

According to a news channel Duniya, Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza's family left to Lahore even before the function ended. Following this, the couple also left.

Besides this, a new controversy emerged when Pakistan media reported that the groom Shoaib Malik was demanding Rs 3.5 million from them if they wanted the rights to cover the 'walima' scheduled to be held in Lahore on Tuesday, Apr 27.

Ab jab Invitation ka Ticket bana denge to aur kya hoga. Pretty expensive ticket for a 1 dish dinner I must say.

Well the purpose on banning more than 1 dish is for the sake of poor peoples. It was first banned during late 1990s in Nawaz Sharif's era and later on implemented and lifted this ban couple of times in Musharraf's era but overall it served for most part of the decade.

The ban was implemented keeping the poor peoples in mind who will not be forced to prepare more than 1 dish in a marriage and if rich peoples will be restricted for making no more than 1 dish it will not look awkword for the poor peoples too in another words nobody is allowed to prepare no more than 1 dish that cost big money if 300 - 500 peoples attending so if there is any middle class or lower family cannot afford to make more than a dish he can serve peoples under the shadow of Government restrictions. Hope you get my point

It serves the same purpose so that the wedding between rich and poor should look like similar and if one poor person cannot afford big money he can protect his honour under the veil of Government policies and we are having electricity shortage nowadays so this restriction is temporarily until we cannot fullfill our energy demands but still only a certain amount of decoration will be allowed

Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik got unprecedented welcome in Pakistan when they landed in Karachi Thursday. Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik along with the family members left on Thursday morning for Pakistan from Mumbai. After arriving in Karachi, the couple left for Islamabad.

Celebration party was arranged in the honor of newlywed couple. Thousands of people had gathered at Karachi Airport for welcoming the newly wed star couple. .

Mohd. Ali Shah Sports Minister and Mushir Rashid Rabbani greeted them and gave them their best wishes.

Sania told the reporters that she has come to Karachi for the first time and it was a great moment of pleasure for her. They would stay in Pakistan for one week. Shoaib said he wasn’t expecting such a warm welcome from the people.

He thanked Pakistani citizens for giving them such a warm welcome and said that he was moved by this gesture.

Sania and Shoaib would meet Pakistani Prime Minister and other senior ministers besides President Asif Ali Zardari today.

Pakistani welfare minister Aashiq Awan said Sania and Shoaib are brand ambassador of not just Pakistan but India as well.

Meanwhile Sania was visibly unhappy for being seated in the economy class from Karachi to Islamabad. Shoaib had got economy seat as a manager for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

While commenting on it, a Pakistani observer quipped, had Shoaib wanted he would have spent a few thousand bucks and upgraded their seat to business class.

Meanwhile, Sialkot district police chief Waqar Ahmed Chohan said an official order on serving only one dish at wedding receptions will be enforced in letter and spirit.

"We will not allow even Shaoib to violate the ban," he said.

The Punjab government introduced the one-dish rule for weddings and receptions last year as part of a series of austerity measures.
