Shoaib Malik `sold' wedding invites for Rs 15K

Additional Sessions Judge Malik Rafiq of the court in Lahore admitted the petition filed by a man named Safdar Ali on Monday. He alleged that the cricketer was selling invitation cards for his 'walima' (reception) on April 27 for Rs 15,000 (about USD 200) each.

The judge listed the matter for hearing on May 3 and directed Shoaib to appear before him on that date. Ali, who described himself as a fan of Shoaib, said he had taken leave from work on April 27 to witness the walima.

"But then I found out that Shoaib is selling invitation cards for the event for Rs 15,000. He has hurt thousands of fans with his actions. He had made his wedding a business," Ali alleged.

Is there any truth in this news ??

Meanwhile, Sialkot district police chief Waqar Ahmed Chohan said an official order on serving only one dish at wedding receptions will be enforced in letter and spirit.

"We will not allow even Shaoib to violate the ban," he said.

The Punjab government introduced the one-dish rule for weddings and receptions last year as part of a series of austerity measures.

do not know buddy, but i do know that media is selling shoaib and sania marriage to get its ranking increased..;)

its not an issue of money

its an issue of austerity measures. Whatever steps can be taken to keep food supply (prices) down, should be implemented.

other issue is that latenight weddings would not be allowed till further notice, as wedding halls take up obnoxious amounts of electricity.

one learns to adjust to circumstances....ideally speaking

Seems like a couple of indian are using petty things to pus down Pakistan as usual. Why did they not mention how lavish and expensive the wedding was.

Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik wedding reception details | Wedding-News.co.uk

As for weddings in Pak they are very elaborate and need to be cut down. So for poor people this one dish was proposed. I guess hatred requires you to take pot shots even on pointless things.

Aint that mutual, atleast on this thread. Have some sense of humour.

Loji ek dish ki Daawat, usmain bhi fail???

A reception for newly-weds Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik in this eastern Pakistani city was cut short after a large number of guests began pressing the couple to pose for pictures with them.

Shoaib and Sania left the venue of the 'walima' (reception hosted by the groom's family) at the Pearl Continental Hotel and the ceremony ended before the scheduled time last night after some guests began acting in an unruly manner, sources said.

The event was better organised than another reception held for the couple in Shoaib's hometown of Sialkot on April 25. That event was marred by mismanagement.

Sania, who was wearing a flowing gown, and Shoaib, clad in a dark suit, waved to TV cameras and fans as they entered the venue of the walima with their relatives.

Only two former Test cricketers Wasim Bari and Aamir Sohail attended the ceremony.

Bari was the head of an inquiry committee that announced stiff punishment for seven cricketers, including Shoaib, for on and off-field problems.

An invitation was reportedly sent to Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ijaz Butt but he preferred not to attend, sources said.
Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's son Abdul Qadir, federal Sports Minister Aijaz Jakhrani and Population Welfare Minister Firdous Aashiq Awan were among the high-profile guest who attended the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Awan said such "marriage diplomacy" will improve people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and India.

She hoped this relationship will melt the ice between the two countries.

Jakhrani congratulated the couple on starting a new life and prayed for their success.
He said Shoaib will be given a fair chance in an inquiry to prove his innocence.

Malik and the other top Pakistani cricketers punished by the PCB have filed appeals with an appellant tribunal that will begin its hearing on Friday.
The cricketer's brother-in-law Imran Zafar was conspicuous by his absence at the walima.

Zafar was blamed for the mismanagement witnessed during the reception in Sialkot.

In accordance with the rules of the Punjab government banning the serving of more than one dish at wedding functions, guests were served a chicken 'korma' with rice and naans and a dessert.

Sania's family is scheduled to return to India today.
