Can't blame AstroTrain for getting worked up, really what have Indians achieved in engine technology? Is India even worth mentioning in the defence sector? Why are Indians so obsessed with looking down on Chinese progress when no country look at India as a serious high tech country?

no one is looking down on you buddy, I just stated, china should have produced a good engine by now, you guys have a very good aeronautical infrastructure now.

no, Astro was way too much crossing the line. he should be banned for some time. having said this, he might be completely different person off net.

IMO, regardless their intentions it's good thing for ppl start benchmark Chinese techs with USA/west or Russia, this implies they start recognizing China's achievements even in tech fields. If they are telling truth we need to face it, if they are making themselves stupid we just have a good laugh on them. lol

After spending billions of dollars still no where and that to coming from nation which is at least 2 decades ahead of India and has no respect of International IP rights. And not to forget nation which takes development of its indigenous military industry thousand times more seriously than India does.
Must say this is a very poor showing by China as far development of engines for fighter planes are concerned.

We spend billions to create job for Chinese regardless if the engine status, but you Indians spend billions to create jobs for other and leave people to live with jobless and worse one meal per day...LMAO...you dare to criticize China??? go to look at the mirror first.

respect International IP?, a strong nation is alway dictated their term, only weak India need to comply, we Chineses are exceptionalism...see the difference?

As for Engine, if Chineses are so perfect to develop every aspect of military...then there will nothing left on earth to play with

The WS-10s and 13s are already working, as they have been deployed on the J-11, J-10B, and the latest JF-17s (new ones in China).

However, it will take several years for the engines to mature and you only use matured engine for prototype aircraft such as the J-20 and J-31, so for the J-31 to use matured Russian engine is perfectly within logic, and does not in anyway imply that the Chinese engines are not working, so for the Indians that care about China so dearly, please, there is no need to worry about our billion dollar investments in engines.

The discussion is not about kaveri engine, China has a respectable aeronautical industry, It's expected to have it's own engines.

What? now thats news for me, you have a order book of 250 FC1's from pakistan, where the engine is russian, airframe is chinese, and apparently most of other components are manufactured by pakistanis, with a potential for 200 aircraft, there is no priority to develop WS13.

So even in prototype you used a russian engine which is in your own words no interchangeable with ws10, seems like a very poor way to develop prototypes.

I have no issues with chinese development, i hope and wish that you guys become aeronautical giants superseding american and the Russians. there needs to be a little more clarity about your designs. If you have made something brilliant like ws10 and ws 13 go ahead and release the information and specs, instead of blotchy pics from some cell phone and recognition with counting exhaust petals.

NO body give a damn about what you and your kinds think. Oops....PLAAF are dying to acquire the indigenous " flying bullock 4 wheeler " engine. Developed for export solely to USA, Russia, to power their stealth fighters as reported in Hindustan...:azn:

It's a new design from the ground up, so different core than RD-93. The Russians also offered an upgraded RD-93 during Zhuhai Airshow, so that can also be used as substitute.

WS-11 is a license-produced Ivchenko AL-25TLK mini-turbofan meant to power unmanned UAVs etc.,
how can it power J-8?

If they can get WS-10A for J-11, J-15, why the weaker RD-93 for J-31?
And why 117S for J-20?

I think this so-called mumbo-jumbo about WS-10 powering J-11/15 is bullcrap,
its just AL-31F fitted with a new nozzle.

WS-13 Taishan is years away from induction, read this -

According to CAST blog, in interview to CAST representative at Zhuhai a Deputy Director of SARI has reported that the current TBO of WS-10A Taihang is only 300 hours. Progress with improving TBO and other characteristics is persist, but going slow. By his words, it is impossible to name a single issue causing difficulties with Chinese aircraft engines - there are a range of issues, including those related to process organisation and personnel. The situation with WS-13 Taishan, which should replace the Russian RD-93, is even more complicated than with Taihang - TBO for WS-13 is less then that 1/2 than for WS-10A."

Quit citing the Russian BS. They also claimed that china had no arrester on the AC, selling Su-35, etc... The engine data is still classified. If the service life for WS-10A is really just 300 hours, then China would not have installed it en masse on new J-11Bs and even the newer J-10Bs. All the Russian AL-31 China bought are inline with the quantity of the old J-11A (Su-27) and J-10A, which indicates that they are just replacement engines for the old planes.

The chinese WS-10A still remains a primitive engine that can so far power only a few prototypes of J-10B, J-15,
probably again replaced with AL-31FN later after photo session is complete;)

The latest pics of J-15 taking off from Liaoning with AL-31 engines show that WS-10A is still not reliable for carrier-take off trials where only good and reliable engines can play the part well.

Members of this forum have posted enough pictures of J-11B and J-10B with WS-10A engines. Your trolling with earlier pictures is just girlish behavior. You also seem unable to differentiate J-10A and B, or between J-11A and J-11B.
