Russian Navy

Russian navy & air force are now very obsolete; its current warships and aircrafts are still 1970s and 1980s soviet era design and russia don't have money to replace them all; it has already decommissioned most and partially upgraded only small scale of the remaining capable fleet; since 1990s russia has newly commissioned only few small combatants (frigates and corvettes) and SSNs :angry::angry: meanwhile, it seems that russia hopes to continute to receive Indian money in order to offset the serious lack of its defence budget, while India now wants to buy weapons not only from russia but from US; currently russia strongly threatens that it would sell its weapons to pakistan if India no longer buy weapons from russia :angry::angry: eventually russia has very small size of its economy and therefore it couldn't possibly have enough defence budget to compete against US or China; on the other hand, US and China have enormously invested their defence industry every year (at least hundred billions of dollars); as long as russian economy stays as today, russian defence industay and techniques keep falling much behind and have no future :disagree::disagree::disagree: NO choice !!!
With regards to Russia's long term defense spending lagging behind CHina and US, you are correct, but when you talk about current military capabilities, 1st country US congress cites as the biggest military threat to US is RUSSIA.

I believe this is because Russia is more advanced in weapons design and warfare information and organization(is this called "Order of battle"?). Im not a military expert but all im trying to say is that even if China has more money for defense, China still isnt ahead of Russia in weapons technology, design and war management systems and methods. Even CHina's best systems now are either from stolen US designs or improvements to /reverse engineering Russian systems.

You absolutely right, They have lots of experience @925boy

Please tell me how many ships/fighter jets designed by west/USA after 2000, F-16/B-2/F-15/F-18/B-52/B-1/EF-2000/RAFALE/Grippen as well as Aegis destroyers/Ticondra class cruiser of USA, most of the EU naval ships Included Type-45 of UK/Horizon class frigates from France and Italy Design in 70/80s/90s, EVEN F-22/F-35 designed (project started) in early 80/early 90s respectively, so your tall claims is worth nothing, only thinks Russia lacks is money, they have the better know how to design and produce military hardware then China @juj06750 :hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:

Karakurt warships have 4 faced AESA. Karakurt carries Kalibur cruise missiles which can hit anywhere in Syria from Syria coast.

What the fcuk, almost modern big naval warship has 4 PESA/AESA with the exception of Type-45 (Uk) Horizon class frigates (Destroyer) by France/Italy which uses single rotating AESA to achieve full 360 degree coverage and fire a long rage cruise missiles, even Pakistan have reach that capability recently, so what so special about it @undertakerwwefan :hitwall::hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:

I was trying to register in the Russian defence forum (its a separate forum from PDF, like how the SDF is separate), but unfortunately it says that adminstrators have forbidiben any new members, which is really weird.

IMO Russia should just focus on building a single ship like the Derzki (3.4k ton, 8 cruise missile, 16 medium range air defence) and make these ships the mainstay of their navy, they need no more than 35 or so of them and should cancel all other projects such as the Gorshkov & the aircaft carrier and all the other frigates & corvettes, building so many different types will only increase the cost of each individual ship.

the reason why China can build so many giant ships for relatively little money is because they already had all the ship building capacity they needed from their comercial ship building, some Russians claim they can convert their military ship building into comercial ship building in the future & that is why they still waste so much money on their navy but the thing is military development only follows civilian development not the other way around, and for sure since the comercial ship building is stagnating and with dominant players like China, SK & Japan then Russia has zero hope of competing with them.

the Russian navy will never ever be able to match even a fraction of the USN's conventional capability, so why do they waste so much money on what is esentially vanity projects? if they have any money to spare then they should spend it on things that will actually help the nation's economy such as spending money on the auto industry to develop it, and they can also spend on R&D of civilian products such as TVs, refrigerators etc all those things will help Russia much more than spending on rusting vanity projects.

Russia To Build First Two Universal Landing Ships In Crimean Shipyard: Report
12.09.2019

Russia’s two first helicopter carrier warships will be laid at a shipyard in Crimea in the spring of 2020, state-run news agency TASS reported citing own sources.

The first two Russian universal landing ships (LHD) will be laid down at the Zaliv shipyard in Crimea in May 2020, according to two anonymous sources.

“Two LHDs with a displacement of up to 15 thousand tons are planned for the first time in Russian history at the Zaliv shipyard in Kerch in 2020,” one of the agency’s sources said.

He added that the lead ship is planned to be handed over to the fleet before the completion of the current state armament program, by the end of 2027.

Another source also said that “the laying of both ships will take place in May 2020.” He confirmed that each will have a displacement of up to 15 thousand tons. The warships, he said, will be able to carry more than 10 helicopters of various classes on board, and will also receive a large docking chamber for landing boats.

The sources further said that “the development of a technical project for new ships is in the final stage, after its completion, in the coming months, a contract for the construction of the LHD will be signed.”

Earlier, another source in the shipbuilding industry told TASS that no later than the end of 2019, the Ministry of Defense would complete the formation of a tactical and technical task for the first Russian universal landing ships.

According to that source, it was planned to build and hand over the lead LHD to the customer within the framework of GPV-2027, and have it in serial production – by the beginning of the 2030s.

The Zaliv factory in Kerch has a slipway for building ships up to 300 m long and up to 50 m wide, which allows it to build ships with a displacement of more than 150 thousand tons.

Universal landing ships, also called helicopter carriers, are capable of carrying a large grouping of heavy helicopters for various purposes (up to 16 helicopters from Mistral and more than 30 from American type Wasp), and also carry from several hundred to a thousand or more marines.

In addition, the LHD has a dock for speedboats, and other small vessels, to ensure landing and the transport of armored vehicles.

If the reports are true, these ships would become the largest ships in the Russian Black Sea Fleet, and they will also be capable of operating in the Mediterranean.

In addition, Crimea will receive much needed investment, the shipping industry would be revitalized and many jobs would be created.

The Kerch shipyard has not yet received official documents on preparations for the start of construction. The head of USC Rakhmanov said that a final decision has not yet been made. And TASS itself said that the information wasn’t confirmed.

Fortunately for Russia order for two Mistral Class LHD's from France was canceled.
