What a magnificent piece of Russian engineering. To think of the metallurgy, design and number of mechanical linkages required to make a cylindrical nozzle flex 360 degrees while at the same time, respond accurately to digital inputs from the FBW system while working in conjunction with the V-stabs, H-stabs and ailerons and on top of all that, withstand the incredibly high temperatures and pressure exerted into is truly remarkable. Add reliability to such a complex piece of machinery since there is absolutely no room allowed for a TVC nozzle to get stuck in any position other than straight forward (or backwards in this case.) The prospect of a failure in that particular scenario would only spell disaster. So we can also factor that other, very significant and extremely important -- and often unnoticed -- attribute to the engineering of this amazing piece of equipment. Looking forward to seeing the shape of the turkey feathers on the outer sleeve.
T-50-11 Looks like the paint and RAM coating is maturing and possibly reaching final stages of the finish product? Now if only, after 8 years of watching these prototypes flying (not including the years waiting for the unveiling and first flight) and looking better and better, we can only hope they've been testing the weapons systems in secrecy. I find it hard to believe that despite never seeing the weapons bay doors open in all this time, let alone a single weapon being fired from those bays -- that they're not already far ahead in the weapons testing and not the other way around. Let's hope that's the case. Or is weapons testing still to come?
Currently, it is testing the newest Grom-Eh1 missile and a wide range of air-launched weapons for the Su-57 (ex-name PAK FA) fifth-generation fighter. "The Grom trials will be finished at an early date. The development of the weaponry for the PAK FA has run into the practical stage, as we are making control flights and switching to the launches," Obnosov pointed out. http://aviationweek.com/dubai-air-show-2017/ktrv-offers-new-armaments-global-market
