Russian Air Force. Photos & Videos & Discussion

For the longest time I think the assumption was that the final, official designation was going to be Su-50, since it went from PAK-FA to T-50 and Su-50 would seem logical, but I guess not! :-)

The multirole fighter jet comes with an estimated price tag of $50 million
a piece.

Can this be true?!?! I remember reading CA magazine back in 2007 and they were estimating the cost to be $100 mil per. 10 years later and it's half that price?

Su-30SM Russian Air Force
- A +
New 4+ Generation Sukhoi Su-30SM jet fighters have made a flight from the Irkutsk aviation plant to the Western MD to reinforce squadrons in the Kursk regions.

The regiment has received two Su-30SM supermanoeuverable fighters. The aircraft will join the combat strength of the regiment and go on a patrol to secure air borders, a Russian MoD release said.

Pilots have completed conversion training at the Aerospace Forces Training Centre in Lipetsk and performed first flights on new fighters, and shooting from air weapons.

Special training complexes will be designed to train aviation personnel for the Su-30SM fighters. The complexes will comprise several halls with training systems and interactive screens simulating real air combat conditions, as well as various failures so that the pilots acquire required skills for the new aircraft.

The aircraft can be equipped with modern and advanced air-to-air and air-to-surface high-precision weapon. It is designed to gain air supremacy, block hostile airfield, eliminate air, ground and naval targets in any adverse weather conditions.

@vostok @T-55 @Nevsky @Barmaley or any other Russian members; any idea what the function is of the big pod on the Ka-52 that's on the left wing? I can't seem to find a definite and reliable answer.
Some on other forums said it's one of 3 things, either a:
1) toolbox and storage of small spare parts for the pilots to repair the helo in any area if needed.
2) pod that carries small UAV's that drop out of the bottom and recon ahead of the helo and relay images of the battlefield ahead on the pilots' cockpit display screens (thought that was cool but a bit crazy.)
3) an additional EW/ECM pod (in addition to the wingtip pods that already have that function EW.)

Any thoughts?

No problem, man. I appreciate the reply.

@The SC and myself tried to figure out what that thing was and we looked everywhere and the only thing that he found was this picture, after a lot of work looking. Good man.

It's hard to tell, but it does look like a storage pod with shelving and compartments for storing different parts.
Maybe specialty tools also.

Or it could very well be additional avionics with filming equipment and hardware & software to augment the EW pods on the wingtips? Really hard to tell and there is no information on it whatsoever.
