Well, I don't think Regular Russian army will take their place in Bakhmut, their line is stretched really thin as it is, it's 200,000 troop on a 1200 km frontline, which mean each troop is responsible for 6m of the front line if you lay them out with one single file, which you never do. If they take on the attacking position in Bakhmut, that will leave holes everywhere in the entire line. They are going to lose the war if they do that.

Bakhmut is lost for Russia this round, Would they do another one latter this year or next year would be another issue, that's mostly depends on whether or not they can get another mobilisation done. Which is highly unlikely at this point.

Bakhmut is attacked by Wagner which is supposedly increased to 100,000 troops by May with the addition of 30,000 volunteers. Russian regular troops are only involved in Adveevka, Marinka, Ugledar, and Kupiansk sectors.

While it is true Russians out number Ukrainians by 150 to 34, only a small number of Russian men have been mobilized, keeping the vast majority at home to breed the next generation of Russians. In an attrition war, population is everything. 10 years from now Russian population will be more or less stable while Ukrainian population will plummet as too many men are mobilized to fight instead of breeding the next generation of Ukrainians. And the vicious cycle continues. The longer the war, the more out numbered Ukrainians become.
