Banning social media in the disguise of religious protection is mere BS because the real reason government wants to ban FB and other pages is because of the heat they are getting from Social media. Even the army was under pressure after the Shrine bombing and it was social media that made leave their comfort zone and actually hit across the border for the 1st time. Government if it wants can very easily curb certain pages that disrespect religion but they have now got a valid reason to hide behind and ban FB. Next inline would be twitter and so on.

Saying that, why would PMLN gov willingly ban such sites as Mottu gang will be rendered jobless!

If they were looking for an excuse, Interior Minister knew of this content a good many weeks ago already and took no action until forced to.

So all this rights infringement mantra by some is nonsense. Ban sword on media houses, if it comes to that, would fall on those houses who are with the gov as well as supported Bhensa (like Geo).

This looks like a reluctant move by the gov.

This isn't some conspiracy by the govt or so on. It's normal for courts of Asian countries to ban websites over some pages or even some images. (Imgur in Turkey comes to mind).

It's simply a combo of convenience and internet illiteracy.

Only reason it doesn't happen in India is the guarantee of strong reactions, and the deep entrepreneurship via social media to an extent. But it does happen to some pron sites and some others over illiterate reasoning. (I'm not supporting pron. Just that the logic given and selection of sites is dumb.)
I think even pastebin suffered.

EDIT: Indeed, "we complained to the website and they didn't remove, so take the ban" is also a big factor. But I consider it a part of internet illiteracy.
