Rumors: Govt banning Facebook in Pakistan

Shocking that some of you lot are blaming the judge and gov, what about blaming FB?

As for those doing e-commerce on FB, find another platform. What happened to contingency planning?
There are 7 billion people in the world you cant make everyone respect Islam some will post anti Islam content we just have to ignore it

You want to compare an e-business on a social website (not even a dedicated trading site like ebay) to a phsyical shop in a plaza?

That's just plain stupid business planning! Most sound businesses operate on different platforms, not just one.
All right most people in Pakistan use facebook right?
NOw lets just say an online site xyz has 10000 followers on fb and 200 on linkedin be ause linkedin has very small market share in Pakistan if you ban fb dpnr you think his business will be affected?
The alternate platforms are just not as popular as fb

I would agree with you that banning facebook is not the solution because people will still access facebook through proxies but you cannot allow such content to be displayed as well so the solution is not to ban such content but pass a resolution at UN in which all Muslim countries participate and make the thing illegal. If you think business is important than Islam then you are wrong.

In case no one wants to bash their heads to a wall more than once since this topic has been discussed to death and beyond now. I kindly divert all of your attentions to the below, where a inquisitive discussion is being brought forth (one of greater importance than the ban of FB or not)

Is this considered derailing of thread? :flame:

Pakistan is not going to fall apart with FB and Twitter bans. There is more unemployment caused by corruption and ban on FB/twitter would be too small a financial loss to matter in the bigger picture.

Ban whatever site with filth content and move on.

Also, once FB is out of the way, then locals can develop localised platforms to sell whatever they want to sell. People will adjust. Ban on FB & twitter is not the end of the world.

I support this decision..

FB owners are so MFs that when Kashmiris post their faces with marks of pallets, they remove those pages and ban the person who shares that content..

When a terrorist organization runs a propaganda page and our government asks facebook to remove the content and requests to provide the whereabouts of owners, facebook not only declines, but facilitates such propaganda to continue..

When you post something about holocaust, facebook immediately bans you.

When someone posts derogatory remarks about our beloved prophet (PBUH), they decline to take down the content and also do not share the information about owners.

I say kick this facebook out of Pakistan. Pakistani university students are capable enough that they could make a social platform similar, if not better, to be run from within Pakistan, obeying our rules and our culture.

Banning facebook is a good idea and bring in Webo. China has blocked access to facebook already.

It's called community guidelines.
Gore isn't allowed.
"Right to speech" is.
If the "blasphemer" uses gore, it'll be removed too.

That being said, I do think these sites are inconsistent in some regards. It's natural in a tumultuous world, for global brands.
But in most cases, you may only read their guidelines to know the answer.
