RSS strikes again: 'Foreigners' Isaac Newton, Akbar the great to be chucked out of Rajasthan text bo

does the rss idiot know that bhagat was socialist??

abominable, indeed... as against the noble "indian" traditions like sati and jauhar.
Still better than a tradition of beheading continues till now...... N we have no tradition to worship n emulate a inhumanely act(beheading to sex slavery) started some 1400 yrs ago.... Ppl call person with different name......
Apne andar bhi jhaank le tab dusre Ki kamiya ginaya kar .....

I don't know what so great about Akbar?
He perfectly fits into khoongressi version secularism... Nothing great about him except some khoongressi licking skills to garner some vote banks......

The RSS campaign to purge the Indian education system of all 'foreign' influences is due to get a huge boost in Rajasthan, where moves are underway to effectively rewrite 6.5 crore textbooks in the state.

Ever since the formation of the Narendra Modi government, RSS has been consistently engaging with it over shaping its education policy, a move criticised by the Opposition as an attempt to saffronise the education system. And this latest incident is unlikely to go down well either.

According to a report in the Indian Express, primary and secondary education minister, RSS member Vasudev Devnani is set to oust names like Akbar the great, Pythagoras and Isaac Newton from state textbooks in favour of 'local' heroes like Veer Savarkar, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Maharaja Suraj Mal and Maharana Pratap.

"Why should our children only learn about Akbar, the Great? Why not Maharana Pratap, the Great? Our children are constantly learning about foreign rulers, mathematicians, scientists et al,” he told the Express. "Soon after I took charge, I wanted to rework the textbooks but I was told printing had started and making changes would cause a huge financial loss. This year, we will bring significant changes,” he added.

Devnani had earlier made headlines for making the surya namaskar compulsory in government schools in the state, following a similar initiative that was carried out in Madhya Pradesh.

Bizarre as Devnani's plans are however, they are hardly unique. The Gujarat government implemented a similar scheme in 2014, when it decided to introduce seven books by Dinanath Batra, a member of the executive committee of RSS education wing Vidya Bharti, as recommended reading for its primary and upper-primary students.

Batra himself has very strong opinions on the current education system in India, which he also feels gives much too much importance to 'foreigners'.

The Times of India quoted from one of his writings as follows:

Education in India is neither Indian nor a real education. Education has nothing to do with this country's land. It is result of mischiefs with words by Marx and Macaulay that today's young generation has become aimless, arrogant and stubborn and is in the race of being unemployed. A nationalistic education system has to be developed to address the requirements and through this we have to develop a young generation that is committed to Hindutva and nationalist."

Then in another worrying incident of attempts to rewrite history, the RSS came under fire in September for trying to blame the emergence of the Indian caste system on 'foreign invaders'.

In its never-before-heard-of take on Dalit history, the RSS released three books on the subject, where the authors held foreign invaders responsible for the emergence of certain castes. The books, authored by BJP spokesperson Vijay Sonkar Shastri, were released by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. RSS leaders had written the preface for all three books.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, top RSS leader Bhaiyyaji Joshi states in the preface to one of the books, "To violate Hindu swabhiman (dignity) of Chanwarvanshiya Kshatriyas, foreign invaders from Arab, Muslim rulers and beef-eaters, forced them to do abominable works like killing cows, skinning them and throwing their carcasses in deserted places. Foreign invaders thus created a caste of charma-karma (dealing with skin) by giving such works as punishment to proud Hindu prisoners.”

And it hardly stops there either.

Newspaper reports from September 2014 claimed that the Sangh was planning to piece together the history of over 670 districts and 600 tribal communities in the country. The Sangh is already undertaking a decade-long project to produce a version of Indian history based on the Puranas.

To this end, the Akhil Bharatiya Itihaas Sankalan Yojna (ABISY), a Sangh affiliate, established the Bharatiya Puran Adhyayan Sansthan (Indian Institute of Purana Studies) within the RSS headquarters premises in Delhi, reported the Indian Express. Dubbed 'Puranantargat Itihaas', the project is based on ABISY's argument that it's incorrect to say that there are only 18 Puranas, when there are 106.

What is also interesting however, is that the Rajasthan decision comes a little over a month after the RSS adopted a resolution asking the BJP-led Union government and those in states to impart education in the mother tongue of students or constitutionally recognised state languages, saying those educated in a foreign language get "alienated" from their culture and tradition.

Is BJP replacing Newton in textbooks, or is Indian Express replacing truth with agenda?
OpIndia Staff / April 8, 2015 / Reports
On 7th April, Indian Express via this article announced dramatically that “Akbar, Newton may make way for ‘local heroes’ in Rajasthan textbooks”. The article made claims that Saffronization of School Textbooks would take place at the behest of RSS. The article commented that “Akbar the Great, Pythagoras and Issac Newton would be nudged out”. The most interesting part was this story was run ONLY by Indian Express. Firstpost later curated this same report, but there were no other independent reports on this story.
The problem with the Indian Express story is, in its headline it says “Akbar & Newton may make way” and they reiterate this claim in the body. BUT, if we see the quotes of the Minister in the same piece, there is not a single quote mentioning “nudging” Akbar or Newton or any other “foreign leaders”. From a plain reading, it seems Minister Devnani only wanted to include Indian personalities like “Veer Savarkar, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Maharaja Suraj Mal and Mahatma Gandhi” in History books, who he feels haven’t been given their due in Indian Textbooks. He also says he would like to add “Aryabhatta, Bhaskaracharya” in science books.
Following are the exact words of the Minister, as per the report of Indian Express itself:
“Why should our children only learn about Akbar, the Great? Why not Maharana Pratap, the Great?, Our children are constantly learning about foreign rulers, mathematicians, scientists et al. Soon after I took charge, I wanted to rework the textbooks but I was told printing had started and making changes would cause a huge financial loss. This year, we will bring significant changes. In science books, we will include Aryabhatta, Bhaskaracharya. We have to build a feeling of of nationalism in our children.”
As you can see there is not a single quote where the Minister says he will remove Akbar or Newton. This is further established by reading this report in Patrika on the same matter. This report says 5 new chapters will be “added” on the famous characters earlier mentioned by us. There is no mention of any deletion of Newton etc.
All the facts of this case can be summarized as below:
1. Indian Express report is the only report on this issue
2. It claims Newton, Akbar & Pythagoras will be nudged out of text books
3. This claim is not backed by any quotes of the Minister, in Indian Express’s own article
4. This claim is not backed by any other media report
Based on the above, there is serious concern whether the Indian Express report is accurate, or whether they have added their own narrative to sensationalise the issue. It is more dangerous since, just last month Indian Express was caught with their pants down when they tried to communalise Kolkata’s Archbishop’s statement.
There is no doubt that Indian history books should definitely have chapters on great Indian leaders such as Veer Savarkar, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Maharaja Suraj Mal and Mahatma Gandhi. There is also no doubt that Indian education system in most places is in desperate need of revamp. There might be some who may express concern over inclusion of Aryabhatta, Bhaskaracharya in Science textbooks, but the fact is, the entire world has acknowledged many contributions of these stalwarts in the field of science. There are those who claim everything worthwhile was invented in Ancient India, while there are those who claim nothing ever came from there. Sadly, the truth lies in between the two, and there is no harm in propagating this truth.
We had asked an opportunity to enquire with the author of the Indian Express report, but we are still awaiting a reply.

My comment was based on the Indian Express report mentioned. Who is OpIndia, btw? What is their background? I have no problem with their setting the record right, but we need to see both the record that is being set right, as well as the information about the person setting things right.

A group of people on twitter who are working against the misreporting of news.

Even if we assume that those who wrote that piece are biased as the ones writing the news report, see the facts and links they have mentioned which cannot be faked.

I have no difficulty with accepting that this report may reflect that Indian Express was egging up a perfectly normal point of view seeking to redress the balance of historical narrative. I also have no difficulty in keeping in mind the poison dished out by, for instance, Giriraj Singh, which is really appalling. Is it untrue that extremely uncouth remarks are being made, and in increasing volume, these days?

Sir, I have no qualms in accepting that so many unnecessary remarks are being made but sir why do I also see that news channels are loosing touch with the reality.

Just yesterday, twitter was trending #HatsOfGeneral occupying the second spot for the work he did in Yemen but the Times of India which depends so much on these trends completely ignored it?

Similarly, when Indian Team lost, Timesnow got a solid bashing online for calling it a shame and trending the same on Twitter, top slot, but it was ignored.

After month and months of bashing BJP govt by almost all news houses for increased attacks on miniroties and their places of worship a report detailing the number of attacks in a year under UPA and BJP saw similar numbers? Even, slightly less than UPA numbers. Only Times Now reported this.

What stopped the news channels to file RTIs and get the details in numbers before declaring that under BJP minorities feel threatened because the attacks are increasing?

Your comment about news channels is a serious one, and we need to think about their role very seriously.

It is increasingly, distastefully becoming clear that Indian news channels are losing their integrity of professional purpose and are taking to embellishments of the hard news in order to gain readerships. Perhaps it was started by one group, both in print, and then, after a lag, in electronic media, but it seems now that those who stood fast earlier are now panicking, and going to the Lowest Common Denominator in rapid steps.

Here BJP bashing is not, in my opinion, a deliberate decision, but is a function of the extra burden that an incumbent government has to bear. It has face criticism at all times at all levels, and much of it turns out to be unfair.

Sir, there were many serious issues to be reported.

Like, the recent Mudra bank which was a repackaging of other similar things done in the past. What was different? will it likely succeed? But all I see in debates are the same journalists fighting over each other and opinion in print and electronic media passed of as News :(

The reduce in MNEGRA funds, the reduce in Medical Funds, the percentage hike in defence budget, the integration of services of MCA.

There are many more but I do not see some hard hitting news with facts and figures but issues like what he said and what she said. Sure, that's news too but why does it dominate everything else.

The foreign media covered Indian evacuation efforts more than Indian media, what gives?
