Well, actually Hindus did live in what can now be called ghettos. Amira and Habba Kadal. Religious segregation was imposed by the Muslims first and then encouraged by the short Dogra rule. It is a known fact that the Sunnis in Kashmir will prefer perpetual stone throwing to living with a non Muslim unarmed neighbor. This is more true for porshayr.

What's the harm in restoring their homeland back peacefully?

We're talking about a state in the country, not some other country. Those who wish should be able to settle back in their home state. No foreign religion has any right to steal the land from their people.

They should make an open offer, and if the legit Pandits want to take it, they should be afforded such. Perhaps there will be a few takers initially with a bunch of people watching from the sideline, if all goes well maybe more will join.

As a Kashmiri, I think the Kashmiri diaspora scattered around the world since successive tyrants like afghans, Sikhs and dogras now Indians , should also be given special treatment. The forced mass exodus and migrations number into the millions, why just talk about the pandits? Why not the butts, darrs, Lones, Mir, wains, khwajahs.
