Role of Infantry in future and its History

Infantry are the primary tool of warfare. They hold ground, they close with the enemy and destroy them. ... All other combat arms serve to support, protect and enhance the infantry. The main aim of war is to either control a population or area of ground, or both in a conventional war scenario, however infantry has been called upon to fight unconventional foes like the Taliban, ISIS etc and have to be familiar with mountain warfare against such enemies. The need for airborne elements of the infantry is enhanced against such enemies. In Pakistan, the need to clear and hold, repatriation and reconstruction of civil population to the cleared areas has also landed in the lap of the infantry with the help of the engineers like FWO.
