Rivalry Emerges for Production of Turkish Tank

ANKARA, Turkey — A powerful Turkish armored vehicle manufacturer with close ties to the Ankara government announced it would join a future competition for the serial production of the Altay, the new generation main battle tank a rival company developed.

Ethem Sancak, chairman of BMC, told reporters his company would be a contender for the serial production contract, which industry experts and officials expect to be about 1,000 tanks, with an initial batch of 250.

Sancak said BMC would bid with partners, which he declined to name. But he hinted his partners may include foreign manufacturers that “would not object to export licenses and local production.”

Earlier this year, a privately owned Turkish engine maker, TUMOSAN, signed a €190 million (US $206.35 million) contract with the government to design an engine for the Altay.

The Altay program has faced hurdles and delays as its engine is its most problematic development feature. Turkey's months-long negotiations with Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for joint development and production of an engine for the Altay failed last year.

The Altay was developed by Otokar, a rival of BMC. The Turkish government commissioned Otokar to build four Altay prototypes under a $500 million program.

After the prototype production stage has been finalized, the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) will formally invite bids for the serial production contract.

BMC can achieve better cost Ratio than Otokar. Otokar is very expensive. BMC is a cheap Producer, can save hundred thousands of Dollars per produced tank unit. BMC knows how to produce fast and costeffective. They deliver Kirpi MRAP for half the Money that Otokar charges for their kaya and kale MRAPs.

Also you miss the point, BMC is a truck company, an MRAP is essentially a truck
and even Kirpi was based on Israeli Hatehoff's design. They couldn't even make kirpi on their own

#BMC also paid huge amount of contract fee because of delay. Turkish state purchased the Kirpi MRAPs nearly for FREE!

They don´t Need to develop. SSM owns the blue prints and will it give to them. They just Need to Montage and wield according to the orders of Savunma Sanayii Müstesarligi Engineers.

there are only two companies in Turkey that could produce a land vehicle as complex as an MBT and those are FNSS and Otokar.

Tofaş might give a lower price, doesn't mean they can deliver on their promises!

Engineers make Montage plans. Everything goes by the book. Montage is easy Thing for skilled workers with common sense and an engineer who is Controlling their work.

SSM needed otokar for one purpose, to develop a tank. Now BMC or the lowest bider will get the Job. Can also be HEMA or Katmerciler. There are many companies in Turkey who want to work for government on milli Projects. even for less Money. Because they are VATANSEVER.

All the skilled workers and engineers at otokar can quickly join the workforce of the other Producers. Everyone will be happy, except the leeches with their golf Club bills.

Than don ´t talk. In such companies People who talk to much are not hired. All industry Producers search for quiet and hard working People. The one who talk to much gets fired.

This is all about production. Erbakan promised tank factories and his apprentice erdogan made that tank factories real. simple industrialisation politics. everyone who oppose strong Country and industrial production must shut up in the future.

I personally think we should let BMC and otokar just bid each other out.
If BMC is cheaper and can in fact produce a MBT then we should totally go for it.
