The Meastrale class ships (8 units, commissioned between 1982 and 1986) are good, capable ships. However, unlike e.g. the USN Perry class ships, after their entry in service, the Italian ships were modernized only with some minor programs. Therefore, the equipment present on these ships is almost equal to what it was in 1982, and they could really benefit from a more serious refit/modernization (esp. combat management system, electronics, sensors.)

Relative to the similar but smaller Lupo (seen here next to a Perry class frigate), for which Peru might be a customer.

Armaments of Lupo and Meastrale class are similar: Oto 127mm, 2x Oto-Breda twin 40mm, Aspide SAM, Teseo Otomat AShM, 2x3 ASW tubes. For all of which one can find Chinese alternatives: see F22P. However, Meastrale may be more easily adapted and could possibly house a VLS forward of the bridge (IIRC it has an automative reloading system fro the Aspide launcher).

NB. There were 8 Minerva class corvettes, of which 4 already retired, of which 2 already went to BD Coast Guard, with 2 more to follow. 4 more are set to decommission. These too are nice little, well armed ships: 76mm, Aspide, Otomat, ASW torps, HMGs

I understand the Phillippine navy was interested in buying 2 Meastrales, at 6 billion PhP each (128 million dollar, 114 million euro) but bailed out.

[edit: not entirely sure, but I think that price included refurbishment 'to zero mileage' i.e. a very good workover with lots of replacement of worn parts etc. Unknown what else might be included e.g. training, logistics etc. Don't think it include a capability upgrade. But for the Phillippines' navy, it would have been a huge step forward, working as they still are with some ww2 era ships, and a few ex-USCG Hamilton class WHEC, which date from the mid 1960s and are maintenance intensive)

Army should lover it's budget 10 percent give it to Navy for 2 years and govt increase Navy budget too a bit so they get destroyers like Type 054 enough of limited firepower and thinking

. .
The units do not meet our requirements

> Age is old , rust / sea salt based problems on Ships
> Out of date Systems
> Radars that might not be top of line
> Missiles might be of lower quality

>Type054 Type destroyer comes with larger ship + newer weapons newer radars etc
> No body damage / rust

Much closer to what we need

Sir,
What do you think if some one wants to get all the 8 then they would cost less or the same price? And how much would the upgrades cost?

How many do you think can be bought for $2 Billion?

.
Pretty sure we can get 4 from China , if we negotiated it for security for CPEC, China has a huge fleet of these new generation Destroyers

We are getting 6 Ships for Patrol Duties however we also need to improve our NAVY for multi purpose security

+ 1 Billion should get us 4 units , as unit cost is around 240 Million USD
  • Sub Sea protection
  • Air Protective System

Still the numbers game matters... If PN goes for 4 Destroyers then 2 for Karachi and 2 for Gwadar where as the old ships would give a higher number in the same amount.

.
Well four is enough for our needs we are not drastically making Navy Super large this is minimum deterrence

Coast Guard duties / Coastal coverage - None Military application
  • 6 Patol ships (Coastal Duties), brand new comparable to Italian ships
  • 8 Global cutter for Coast guards
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • 4 Destroyers(Lease / Grant would be ideal)
  • This is needed against dangers from SEA from enemy of GWADAR project
Considering we have 0 Ships of this type , it is safe to introduce such items now
Is ideal setup

PN need simple and cost effective solution

type-054 or other next gen frigates are costly

it is better to go for 2nd hand ships
and modernize them
with low cost
