There are alot of rumors and claims that chemical weapons were used on Lal Masjid, this is due to the lack of information among people and this vital information will refute the claims and rumors of the use of chemical weapons.

The word "White Phosphorous" has been used to give an impression that chemical weapons were used which is opposite to relity.

Everyone knows that there are weapons known as grenades used by the army which are of various types. The Infantry belonging to the Army uses mainly three types of grenades which are,

1. Grenade No 36 (H)

2. Grenade No 75 Super

3. Grenade No 80 (WP)

Altough there are other types of grenades like Frag grenades, Energa grenade etc but it is clear that the third number grenade was used as it is clear from its name which is short form of White Phosphorous containing some elements of White Phosphorous.

The extremists are wrong in presenting that "Chemical Weapons" were used just because there is a word WP is used, infact the truth is that an ordinary grenade was used.

The clerics and those people who are strengthening their case by saying that the Army is cruel to use chemical weapons should be wise enough to khow that there are no weopons made in the world without chemicals.

This ordinary grenade does not include in the list of chemical weapons otherwise it would not be commonly used by infantry because chemical weapons are very dangerous to use and without proper care the one using it can also burn and die.

The clerics have done a good job by exploiting the name "WP" to present that banned chemical weapons were used and finally show that the Army was tyrant and the die hard Lal Masjid takfiri militants were very innocent.

This shows that due to the lack of information among people, the real story is different from
which is being exagerated and presented in the media.

Following are the characterictics of the grenade which everyone is thinking to be a banned
chemical weapon.

(1) Body -- sheet metal.

(2) Filler -- 15 ounces of white phosphorus.

(3) Fuze -- M206A2.

(4) Weight -- 31 ounces.

(5) Capabilities -- the average soldier can throw the grenade 30 meters. The grenade has a
bursting radius of 17 meters. All friendly personnel within this 17-meter area should be in a
covered position to avoid being struck by burning particles. The WP filler burns for about 60
seconds at a temperature of 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This intense heat causes the smoke produced by the grenade to rise quite rapidly, especially in cool climates. This makes the M15 grenade less desirable for use as a screening agent.

(6) Color/markings -- grey with one yellow band and yellow markings.

(7) First aid -- treat burns caused by WP in the same way as ordinary burns. If particles of WP are embedded in the flesh, immerse the wound in water or pack with wet cloths to halt combustion.

Then pick out or squeeze out the WP. The particles will reignite spontaneously if allowed to dry. Apply copper sulphate solution to halt combustion of the WP particles. This permits them to be removed without igniting.

I seriously wish that they should have used some.

Normal bullets have raised such a hue and cry, chemicals would have made it even more ugly.

I meant something like Nitrous oxide or Halothane; for knocking people out

It could have been a good option, but there were concerns about the presence of gas masks within the compound. If gas masks were present, then the use of any such grenades would have broadcast the intentions of an impending assault and diminished the advantage of surprise (which it seems like was lost anyway by allowing yet another round of fruitless negotiations to be pursued into the wee hours of the morning).

White Prosperous grenades are smoke grenades. True, they have incendiary effect but that is marginal. The are used to obscure view. It is NOT a weapon to kill!

The other smoke producing items are mortars smoke bombs. Obviously those could not be used!

All ammunition are of chemical composition but that does not mean they are Chemical weapons.

This is the type of canard that is used to fool the gullible and illiterate to agitate without understanding a damn!

All smoke producing items are dependent on weather conditions. In case of pillaring effect, more such items are lobbed so that the gaps are covered and the desired smoke screen effected.

Base ejection smoke is the best!

guys really nice article i fwded it in my office and people who were against defenders of Pakistan had to think twice before they could utter any ***** against Pak FAUJ!!

nice article nice work

Not all WP grenades are smoke grenades only. Incindiary ones are used to flush out resistance by CT teams all over the world. When the press took a tour of the LM, a Pakistani Army officer was asked about the chemicals on the wall, and without hesitation he said its WP residue.

So obviously lack of knowledge is playing a part here in terms of the propaganda being raised by some in Pakistan.

The No. 77 Grenade was a British white phosphorus grenade used during the Second World War. The No.77 was introduced in 1943 and consisted of 8 ounces of white phosphorus, an impact fuse and a tin casing. It was intended for laying down smoke screens and as signalling device. The grenade was also very effective as an anti-personnel and incendiary weapon.

I dont think either of these agents could be effective in the open. Nitrous oxide is very rapidly acting but dissipates easily as does Halothane. If you used it in large enough quantitiesit would not only be very expensive but also put half of Islamabad to sleep. And I am talking of tons and tons. As far as I know HAlothane is also very flammable. Therefore it can not be used in a scenario where open warfare is going on.
