Neither countries have the capability to fight a "conventional war" - as many Indians here are chest-thumping about. If a war ever did break out, it'd be limited and small - similar to Kargil and Siachen war.

Pakistan is capable enough of winning a tactical victory in a overtly defensive war; if we are capable of holding the Indian offensive - as the war drags on for a couple weeks, it'll turn out to be a logistical nightmare for the Indian Forces. Forcing their withdrawal and ending the war.

Pakistan may win nuclear war with India but what's the reason it has no chance of winning conventional war, insurgency-on-enemy war (supporting insurgency on enemy territory) and economic espionage and sabotage war, diplomatic war with India? Answer is size – population size, geographic area and material resources. Soviet Nation was a great country and produced great individuals but Afghanistan shattered and vanquished Soviet Union because Soviet Union's population was tiny and it's material resources were scarce – most of Russia is nothing but cold desert. India is not Soviet Union. India has a dense population and is rich in material resources. It is said that a single state of Uttar Pradesh has a population bigger than the entire population of Pakistan. A common refrain of 1965 war is that it was a war of quality versus quantity. But quality has a limitation. One Pakistani soldier may kill dozen Indian soldiers but he has no chance against two dozen Indians. Probably this pattern holds in most walks of life except in contests like sports where only equal number of individuals can represent their respective countries.

first. indian population is too much as compared to afghanistan but pakistan population is more than afghanistan too.
second. indians don't enjoy that advantage of 1 to 2 dozen soldiers. its already. almost 1:2.
third:soviet uninion broke because of unrest inside its country. communist ruling muslims. india got some internal problems like that too. i remember during manmohan singh rule once the internal insurgency was regarded as biggest threat to india.
fourth:about insurgency on enemy, you can't match pakistan. ask russians or US or the afghans.
fifth: pakistan major conventional war assets are heavily equipped pakistani civilians. you cannot defeat such country. even US isn't able to defeat taliban then how can india defeat only pakistani tribals from fata who even during 2009 made a lashkar of half million to fight any indian aggression. taliban are not even 100k.
sixth: india is a big counry with big resources too but are they big enough as the soviets, the super power of the time?

This is reason now India has started giving you with the same medicine you understand. That is reason we have not attacked Pakistan, we don't have to. Pakistan Is not able to go and conquer india and in all out war whoever says it is Needs to Check Some History because Terrain is a night mare in Pakistani and Indian e.g Punjab Too much Populated area Rivers , Cities Which Will be Nightmare for the Armour to move in these congested cities While Pakistani Force have experience of more than decade in fighting Gorilla warfare Which will make things Too much complicated for invading Elements .
