We Christians were not his biggest fans, either, despite what you may have heard about Tariq Azziz. He rolled back reforms and "guarantees" instituted by one of his predecessors in favor of "Arabization." I shall only say that we hoped for better once Saddam was gone, but the secular "Arab" oppression of Saddam seems to have been replaced by a Muslim fundamentalist fervor of intolerance towards non-Muslims.

It is understandable of not liking him for the Assyrian Christians.

However, he is not really a monster for the Sunni Muslims who are the majority in Iraq. And most people he killed were Shia Muslim Kurds who were mostly separatists.

Indeed, Saddam was a dictator, but even a dictator won't kill his own people for no reason or intentionally ruined his country.

Thats not the topic. The topic is using comments made by anonymous online posters to make hateful threads about an entire nation, thus using a time of natural disaster against fellow humans to parade ones prejudice (whether justified in history or not). And Chinese users have already shown they are no different than those american posters. But can we use that to taint the entire chinese nation???

Of course not, I'm sure most chinese have sympathy for the people of japan, the same way most indians have sympathy for the earthquake victims of china and pakistan, irrespective of the history. A heterogenous population is easier for a government to control in times of strength but harder to keep united in times of crisis. The a major reason China did not fragment in 1919, 1949 and 1966 were because at the time China was 97% Han but now the stupid government policies have made China only 90% Han.

A heterogenous population is easier for a government to control in times of strength but harder to keep united in times of crisis. The a major reason China did not fragment in 1919, 1949 and 1966 were because at the time China was 97% Han but now the stupid government policies have made China only 90% Han.

Most of minorities in China have Sino-Tibetan background which share the blood tie with the Han Chinese.

Even many other groups like Mongols/Manchus/Uyghurs were also heavily sinicized.

The situation in China is very different from US, which is still a nation with heavily racial segregation in mind.

Earthquakes are natural disasters. War is a man made disasters. I have no problem with Chinese and Americans connecting the two based on a shared negative experience with the Japanese. Frankly, I don't think Indians are fit to judge since India has never experienced total war on the same scale as Chinese and American. The lunatic fringe is those who think 1,000 casualties in a natural disasters are somehow more deserving of our sympathies and are morally superior to 30,000,000 casualties brutally murdered in a man-made disasters. But then I wouldn't expect Indians to understand that. You guys still think a UNSC seat comes FREE. No, that seat was paid with French, Russian, Chinese, British and American blood.

Jealousy is earned but sympathy for those with begging bowls is always free. This is why I'm not too worried about India, SK or small European countries. Only US due to its current size, but not potential, and Japan for its potential, but not current size, and Russia, for potential, where potential is citizen discipline. A sign of a disciplined nation is 1.) no one ever dies because of a stampede and 2.) no one loots during natural disasters. China has #2 but needs to work on #1. USA of course, lacks both.
