Reaction of the Americans to the Japanese natural disasters

:pop: The world's power is not derived from the arms.
Obsessed with war, the country will certainly destroyed in the war(杀人者恒死于刀下).

That's why i don't agree of beating them by tasting their blood, but rather we should defeat them via competition and to prove we are better than them.

Yes, i do agree they are still much more advanced in civilian technology, but we have our stronger criteria as well.

We could look down at them once we can manage to beat them in every criteria.

.
Personally, i don't really hate them, but i won't really blame some of my countrymen hating the Japanese for that particular historical reason.

Exactly right.

I don't hate them either. But anyone can see, that the Japanese atrocities during WW2 have left a lot of angry feelings between the two nations.

U.S. Delivers Coolant to Quake-Hit Japan's N-Plant

The U.S. has transported coolant to a Japanese nuclear power plant affected by the massive earthquake, as it quickly moved naval and air assets along with humanitarian relief material for the tsunami-hit areas of the country.

“We just had our Air Force assets in Japan transport some really important coolant to one of the nuclear plants,” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced yesterday, as Tokyo declared a state of emergency for five of its nuclear reactors at two atomic power plants in northeastern coast of Japan, where an 8.9—magnitude quake struck yesterday.

Japan is very reliant on nuclear power and they have very high engineering standards, but one of their plants came under a lot of stress with the earthquake and did not have enough coolant, she said.

“So Air Force planes were able to deliver that. So we’re really deeply involved in trying to do as much as we can on behalf of the Japanese and on behalf of U.S. citizens,” Clinton said.

The safety of Japan’s nuclear plants also came up when U.S. President Barack Obama telephoned Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan.

“When I spoke to Prime Minister Kan, I specifically asked him about the nuclear plants and their potential vulnerability as a consequence of the earthquake. He indicated that they are monitoring the situation very closely,” Mr. Obama said.

“So far, they have not seen evidence of radiation leaks. But, obviously, you’ve got to take all potential precautions,” he said.

Mr. Obama said he has asked Energy Secretary Steve Chu to be in close contact with their personnel to provide any assistance that is necessary, but also to make sure that if, in fact, there have been breaches in the safety system of these nuclear plants and that they are dealt with right away.

Mr. Obama said he has dispatched a second ship to the region for possible relief and rescue operation. “We currently have an aircraft carrier in Japan, and another is on its way. We also have a ship en route to the Marianas Islands to assist as needed,” he said.

“The Defence Department is working to account for all our military personnel in Japan,” he said.

The U.S. embassy personnel in Tokyo have moved to an offsite location.

The State Department is working to account for and assist all American citizens who are in the country. The Department of Defence said the U.S. Pacific Fleet ships in the Western Pacific were converging in Japan to be in the best position to help those in areas damaged by the massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

They included the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), which departed Southern California waters on March 5 for a regular scheduled deployment to the Western Pacific and US Central Command area of responsibility.

Reagan is the flagship of the Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group, which includes USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) and USS Preble (DDG 88). These ships were headed to Honshu’s east coast.

“It is too early to say what they will be tasked with once they arrive,” the Defence Department said. “We obviously have huge sympathy for the people of Japan, and we are prepared to help them in any way we possibly can,” Defence Secretary Robert Gates said in a statement.

“It’s obviously a very sophisticated country, but this is a huge disaster and we will do all, anything we are asked to do to help out,” he said.

Five people washed away off US coast by Japan tsunami

Five people have reportedly been washed off the US coast by the massive earthquake-cum-tsunami in Japan.

They were swept out to sea in Crescent City, northern California, The Telegraph reports.

The impact of the tidal wave that reached the US was minute, compared to the devastation it caused in Japan where over 1,000 people are believed to have been killed.

However, despite losing much of its power as it travelled across the Pacific, the tsunami was still strong enough to wreck boats and harbours as it crashed against the American shoreline.

The paper quoted Del Norte County sheriff's spokesman, Bill Stevens, as saying that most of the boats in the harbour were removed as the waves approached, but the 35 that remained were buffeted against each other and some sank under the impact of the water.

US sends rescue teams to Japan

LOS ANGELES — The United States said Friday it was sending nearly 150 rescue workers to earthquake-hit Japan, including a team from Los Angeles that just returned from searching the rubble of New Zealand.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) said it was sending teams from Los Angeles County and Fairfax County, Virginia, each with about 72 personnel, dogs and some 75 tons of rescue equipment.
"We are working with the government of Japan to provide any assistance needed in the rescue effort as quickly as possible," USAID chief Rajiv Shah said in a statement.

Craig Fugate, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, told reporters on a conference call that more US-based rescue workers were ready to head to Japan if asked.

The US military separately said it was providing assistance through two aircraft carriers and other ships, largely to transport equipment.
Sam Pedilla, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department, said the workers had only returned Thursday from New Zealand, where they helped after the Christchurch earthquake believed to have killed more than 200.

The Californian emergency crews have experience from the western US state -- itself prone to regular earthquakes, but also deployed to Haiti for the quake there, and to the Gulf Coast after hurricane Katrina.

"Obviously they could bring experience of rescuing people from earthquake type situations," Pedilla told AFP. "They would give you the experience of first responders, not just firefighters."

Hundreds of people are believed to have died in the 8.9-magnitude earthquake -- the seventh biggest in history -- and a monster tsunami that brutalized Japan's northeast coast and stretched across the Pacific.

U.S. air carrier heading for Japan, more naval ships ready for rescue ops.

WASHINGTON (Kyodo) -- The U.S. Defense Department on Friday geared up efforts to extend support for Japan's quake relief operations at the request of Tokyo, following Friday's powerful earthquake, by sending the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan toward waters off Japan's main island of Honshu.

"We will do all, anything we are asked to do to help out," Defense Secretary Robert Gates said in a statement.

According to the U.S. Navy, six ships including the Ronald Reagan will be involved in the quake relief mission.

Among the vessels that the U.S. Navy is preparing to send for quake relief operations are the amphibious ship Tortuga, stationed in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture.

The amphibian helicopter carrier Blue Ridge, which is now in Singapore, is loading humanitarian assistance and disaster relief items to prepare for departure Saturday morning, a Pentagon official said.

The Pentagon also revealed that U.S. forces in Japan have already allowed about 10 civilian aircraft diverted from Narita International Airport, east of Tokyo, to land at its Yokota Air Base in western Tokyo.

Separately, the U.S. Agency for International Development announced it will send two rescue teams, each consisting of around 70 members and rescue dogs, to Japan.

The rescue teams will also deliver 150 tons of relief goods to the quake-hit areas, the agency added.

:china: Yes, Sino-Japanese War, the biggest reason is our own.
If we do not have 30 years civil war, No country can beat us. History already tells us, Chinese people only be defeated by their own.

The Cultural Revolution was simply Mao's fault, but you can't blame the whole communist party for this. Many CCP members were also persecuted by Mao. We have simply scrapped the incorrect parts in Mao's ideology.

At least Iraq was better under Saddam than it is now. Some Iraqis i known simply don't really hate Saddam that much, but the Kurds really do.

We Christians were not his biggest fans, either, despite what you may have heard about Tariq Azziz. He rolled back reforms and "guarantees" instituted by one of his predecessors in favor of "Arabization." I shall only say that we hoped for better once Saddam was gone, but the secular "Arab" oppression of Saddam seems to have been replaced by a Muslim fundamentalist fervor of intolerance towards non-Muslims.

The democracy is good, but sometimes it can also become a tyranny.

CIA democracy is always a dictatorship. They have been brainwashed by the Wall Street regime. 以前人们总说中国人的素质低,现在那些精英跑哪去了?这种现象证明了米国人的素质更低。

Time to change the heading of the thread from Americans reaction..
