Rafale and JF-17 Thunder to compete in Serbia.

4 Billion? Weren't those being manufactured in India? And I am sure the unit cost of an SU-30MKI with spares, armaments etc. would be close to $100 Million each.

plus these I guess are the super Su 30 standard with an ability to carry air launched Brahmos..

According to the magazine Zivak Odbrana defense, fighter procurement plans will enter the final stage, this month. Serbia must decide whether to choose a product developed by NATO or remain faithful to its main ally, Russia and China.

This will be a political decision more than pure defence oriented. With US economy getting big bump and China's rise, Thunder gona have a good chance.
As for the supply, Pakistan and China must have done some sort of arrangement for timely supply of Thunders, otherwise Thunders cannot survive in this competitive environment no matter what kind of goodies you offer to customer and at what cost. To beat giants like US and Russia, you need to present perfect package to your customer.

No way Serbia can buy Rafale, they will surly go for jf 17 fighter.

Unit Cost
Rafale C: US$82.3 million
Rafale M: US$90.5 million

Block 1: US$15–20 million
Block 2: US$20–25 million

Question is can Serbia afford Rafale? No.
JF 17 is a winner.

There GDP is $84.225 billion, and there budget is $1.5 billion.
Useless completion...

Even JFT block 1 will cost around at least 20 million$ for Serbia.

^^^ Awesome... Most importantly, Serbian website posted JF-17 picture..........., not Rafale, F-16, F/A 18, Su-30 etc. :D

Plz dont post False infor or ur thoughts ...
JFT will surely be a strong contender but no JFT Pics on any official Serbian Internet !!!!

It truly depends what grounds the planes are assessed. If it is technical specs the JFT has no chance up against the likes of Rafele/F-18/F-16/SU-30 etc if it is political considerations again the JFT stand no chance up against US and Russia/France. If it is down to purely unit cost ( these things never are down to one factor alone) then maybe the JFT has a chance. However I'm sure the Serbians will also take into account the entire package including weapons, training maintenance etc which again the JFT cannot match the US/Russians/French.

Hard to hear for some but these are the facts.

Two different classes of aircraft, two different performance levels.
However.. if the question is of EDA F-16's such as those in the Block 20 or 30 class.
The JF is quite comparable thank your.

unfortunately LM wont go in this competion with anything lower than blk 60 F-16's
also the serbs wont be really bothered as to which class your aircraft is
if a a/c deliver what they want at a reasonable price and give some political gains they'll buy it

.
i would go with the GRIPEN NG if i was lokking at 12-16 planes and talking about a EUROPEAN air force.

Swden is close by and logictics and supplies will be far easier.

COSTWISE a GRIPEN NG costs 4 x a thunder . BUT its a very impressive latre 4 gen MRCA

there is something called bang for buck?
a ferrari can do zero to sixty in 3 seconds..but costs likewise.
saneway block 60 is better than JF but expensive to buy and expensive to maintain.

jf17 does provide the most 'bang for buck'
but they can spend upto 100mn for each a/c[ofcourse with spares and all]
anywho
whichever way one looks at this deal
the chances of jf17 winning this competition seem unreal by a long shot

sarfriz

They have $1.5 billion and need 12-16 planes.

The gripen would fit that easy.

Not every nation is looking for LOW COST options. 16 Gripens today ESP bLOCK NG will mean no MLU needed in 10 years and the fighter will be relevant even in 2040.

SAVES THE HASSLE of constant MLU needed

low RCS full compsites. aesa radars widranging weapons like ANRAAM C7 or meterore RAMJET missles. GRIPEN HAS THE LOT.

very very sophisticated warplane.

Its a political deal...and the Serb AF will have little input at the end.
Whether Serbia wants to go the US, Euro , Russian or Chinese camps is up for sale.

If all of these feature are offered at low cost then? BMW 7 Series Vs Honda Accord 2010?
Honda Accord can do with much lower cost.
