Hello Turk bros.
I have a question mainly about kahvalti. Why does it have soooo much food?
Don't you guys consider it wasteful?
Even American breakfast places like Denny's don't serve that much food(although Turk kahvalti seems more healthy)

Also all the Turks I have seen so far seem very healthy despite eating so much cheese in very generous amounts. How are they so fit and not obese like Americans even with all that cheese?

Cok tesekurlar.

i dont know what you had seen .... well, basically we dont waste it at home, but in some places yes, there is too much food and people cant eat them like in the pic below

cheese doesnt give much weight, we mostly avoid butter, oil, sugar etc and have a very good habit called "soup" , soup makes our stomach healthy.

Its not wasteful because 90% of the food does not go in the bin and can be reused. If there is a plate of cheese on the table, it dont go bad suddenly or thrown away if theres some left, or if theres honey or olive etc etc. Most of the food are kept in containers in the fridge to be eaten again. Also its usually not too much of each thing so you get to eat many different stuff, you can have a few olive, different cheeses and there will usually be one main dish such as sucuklu yumurta or menemen.

breakfast

typically this here Tomato egg Menemen:

menemen-recipe-turkish-omelette.jpg

than you get some bread

olives, feta cheese some extra grilled chilis maybe in some cases honey maybe some marmalade
maybe you get some sucuk (the best breakfast you can get ;) )

thats a typical breakfast sometimes you can get a a warm soup EDIT: it sounds like everything together this is mostly not together but you can get some out from the fridge and some people will eat from this and others from that..

this here is a good video that shows a normal breakfast

also maybe your wife your mom give you a good day and make gözleme bazlama for breakfast but thats not common also its not common to get some of these together with above mentioned good receipes maybe on bayram day :)

bazlama video in german:

thats gözleme can be with potatos, egg plant, spinach, spinach/cheese, minced meat:

dont look at steetfood videos and hotels thats payed and too much..

luch may not be so much things just a meal, some vegetables (salat or others green stuff) and
yogurt

it could be that you mom or wife make you a good day and make some good stuff like above or better but this is not daily..

and dinner can b e like lunch but a little bit less except you get visit..

and like baybars han said you dont thow your olives your cheese your bread away you can use it next morning or for dinner again..

Yeah I know guys about eggs being the main thing. Right now sitting at Istanbul Cafe.

Will post picture of my menem. Sucuklu menem cok expensive :D and the proper kahvalti platter too.

And what the 2nd question? How do Turks keep fit even when they eat so much cheese. Or is the cheese only displayed with largese but not actually eaten that much?

Is shish kebab also part of Turkish cuisines. Cuz I thought it was Middle Eastern/Arab/Iranian??

Menemen buyuk der ama yemek kuçuk.

The flavors were nice and mild but still very stimulating. The tanginess of the tomato feels great. But the peppers were quite suppressed for a Pakistani pallet.

Çay burned my tongue it was so hot. But smells uhmazing.

its not much if you eat just on of these or a part.. in my family they dont eat more than one of these cheese if you also consider that you have some olives a bread tomatos (fresh) some chili maybe an egg than you can say its many different stuff but you dont eat too much of one seperate food so its quite healthy

the other stuff wich is difficult to make wont be eaten too much because no one wants to make it every week :)

than ypou have the new generations making nutella toast and having cerials with kakao.. or just use their sandwichtoaster and have the yellow cheese sucuk, pastrami (some kind of beef) maybe some butter.. yes thats tasty but not healthy :)

belive me I had been 3 month in turkey in a row.. and whenever I went to someone I had to eat and eat and eat something they brought me watermelons, a normal meal some trail mix (natural) but generally too much watermelon everywhere.. the reality is I feeled like I would explode.. but I did loose some weight.. the thing is we had been walking all the day here and there..
its not like in germany.. if you go out on 17 p_clock the streets are empty no one is there its like a movue where the entire humanity is wiped off.. but even in a town with only 20k people you will find life, you will see people on the streets not everyone is sitting at home and doing nothing.. I think thats one thing that makes people not being so much fat..

but I dont want to show it as if there are no fat people its too much actually and it looks like diabetis is high in turkey (I do not know the numbers but you hear about people being ill)

Yeah my brother visited Istanbul and he said he had to walk A LOT. If that's the case then I think Americans probably eat a lot more cheese(government actually promotes it to protect cheese farmers of Wisconsin). Obesity is a major problem in America because everything is so processed and portions are huge when compared to rest of the world.

A large coke at McD's in Europe is a medium/small size in America. It's ridiculous.

Breakfast at Simit Saray like Breakfast at the Tiffany's.

I wanted Simit so bad but they did not have it :(

Nothing beats a freshly baked lahmacun :D

Lahmacun taste a lot like katlamma if you've ever had one(I've had it in Punjab/Lahore don't if it is avaiale in other areas). Pide tastes a lot like pizza but it's shaped like a boat.

I feel Turkey has a lot of tastes of the world and variety because it was one of the superpower in Osmanli times and had people/trade coming towards it from all over the world.

I am taking an Arabic class and I am surprised how Arabs share breakfast habits with Turks and other bits of cuisine as well. I feel Arabs and Turks share quite a bit culturally. Might not be huge similarities but they are present.

Didn't know you were from NY??

I had the privilege to live in a European city where I would enjoy Simit on every other weekend.

I always fail at Menemen and end up making Anda Ghotala hahahaha
It kinda reminds me Kulcha in Lahore. But kulcha is hard to find where i live.I simit hard/crusty like a baguette or soft like a naan for example?

Its crispy version.

There is something much similar to qeema naan or aaloo paratha but i always forget the name. Hard to screw that word on my tongue somehow
