well the western interests at that time were trade from india and asia as they were the biggest markets then and india was very strategikalli placed between arabian sea , indian ocean and bay of bengal which fell directli between mallackka staraits on one hand to oil rich arabia and suez canal on the other and not very far from the central asia states which at that time were part of the Mighty USSR and the cold war was started so western powers needed a buffer zone to stop the soviet empire as if it reaches arabian sea all the economik benefits to west from asia and india will be compromised
