PAF focusing on :

Average quality n Increased quantity.

People focusing on.

High quality n Medium quantity.

Conclusion:

For the time being First option looks better.

More chances to fire RAAD n other Missiles.

Good Answers to Air launched Brahmos-2 Missiles from Sukhois.

Will reduce the immediate burden from JF-17 of firing RAAD.

What are we going to do with 19 year old Junk??

Pakistan seeking 16 F-16's from Jordan
Pakistan in talks with Qatar for 12 Mirage 2000-5 which is 19 year old

we are replacing 30 year old plane with 19 year old one why cause it'll give PAF 10 years more until ultimate J-31 or TFX arrives

While our Opponent is seeking to buy F-35 Rafales PAK-FA F-18 F-16's Super Sukhoi...

If u look closer Mirage 2000-9/5 are not far away in capabilities from other modern jets and with some upgrades shall become challenging for any modern jet. From your above mentioned list perhaps IAF will not go for F35 as it requires continuous repairs even after every flight to maintain stealth. So even with bigger economy may not go for F35 similarly chances of F18 are also narrow along with F16. Yes they will go for Super Sukhoi and PAK FA. I genuinely believe that if we go for further upgrade of AESA based radar, EW suit and IRST we may bring even Mirages/F16s to counter Rafael/Super Sukhoi.

For Pak FA PAF has options to induct J31 along with SU35 in limited numbers. Please also do not forget JF17 block -III.

It is reality that so far PAF has no credible deep strike AC in it's arsenal as Mirage V and III haved passed their useful life. If PAF gets UAE mirrages for reasonable price they in their current condition shall also be useful and may be upgraded like F16s.

Pakfa is combat ready it is already deployed to crimea.j31 Chinese's stealth tech is least one generation behind russian,f 35 is only reliable option for us

Only if it's available to Pakistan and with an option to build repair/upgrade facility in Pakistan.

In network centric Air defense even the medium quality jet will become a challenge fo enemy. Further PAF already has limited Jets as compared to IAF so we also need quantity.

This is why I never understood why PAF never seriously looked into the Turkish SOM. When I asked this question, I was greeted with " Our Ra'ad is much better," none sense. Truth is the Ra'ad is just too bulky and heavy for the JF-17. A SOM equipped JF-17 complimented by Chinese derivatives of the Sukhois will do wonders protecting Pakistan SLOC. The sooner PAF looks towards the SOM the better, rather than pursue convenient and predictable routes that yield minimum returns.

dear does SOM address 'OUR SPECIFIC NEED' answer is no, weapon purchase is not only based on published specifications but also on the SCENARIO in which it is to be used as well as the STRATEGY according to which it will be used ....

Again RAAD is satisfying both CONVENTIONAL & NON-CONVENTIONAL needs, so its not about RAAD is better then XYZ system but its about the suitability of RAAD is more then any other system ... hope you will understand

Are you making this oblique reference to the sword man ?

Sorry to jump in ....

May be he is but as you know for Pakistanis any deal with Qatar is synonyms to SAIF UR REHMAN & his political links ....

Trust me you people are hilarious ......... making such large conclusions of just a small news .......... we all know the news are used as pressure tactics in this industry ................ just stay calm and hail f-16

The only problem is that PAF can buy 12 Mirage 2000-5 for the price of 2 SU-35 or 1 EFT!!!
And let's say a Squadron of 2000-9 for about 400 million which is the price of 4 SU-35..
Of course these deals will help in acquiring some SU-35s when they become available - not before 2022/24 -
EFT or Rafale will depend on how the economy will perform after CPEC is completed..

36 FC-20 for 1.4 billion USD makes 38 million USD a piece.

Considering 400 Million for 18 Mirage2K, makes 22 million USD a piece. Correct me if im wrong as im not good with million and billion figures.

FC-20 price can be justified. Both are delta and assuming that simulators and other facilities will cost the same for both aircraft, Mirage2K downsides are as follows:

1.Cost will go up because its engine overhaul and air frame upgrade will come quicker, as its lived half its life. This also means it will be retired early.
2. Its owned by the IAF already who knows its strengths and weaknesses, where as J-10 capabilities can be speculated only by IAF, so it can pull up surprises in combat.
3. AESA has more probability in FC-20 than Mirage2K.
4. 9 hard points compared to 11 of FC-20.
5. On supposition that more than 12 M2K will be required, PAF will need to wait for other AirForces to retire their M2K, whereas in FC-20 case, PAF can order spare aircrafts with initial order.
6. Newer generation weapons like PL-10 can be integrated easily on FC-20 while MBDA Meteor for Mirage2K is not probable.
7. If larger numbers of Mirage2K are procured, PAF will face same problem someday in future to replace M2k's like the one its facing now to replace Mirage III and Mirage V, whereas FC-20 will be replaced much later than Mirage2K if its procured as its newer and will have more life of air frame and engine

Upside of M2K:
1. Acquisition Cost obviously
2. Weapons package will introduce MICA/APACHE etc.

I,m in full favour of purchasing atleast , atleast 36 mirage 2000-5/9 aircrafts. They will diversify our air to air and air to ground capabilities. Pakistan is in contact with European nations for second hand f16, but remember , with f,,16 we are not getting aim9x or anything special from anerica, while with mirages we can get any lettest weapon from france.
They are technologically much much better than fc20 , what to talk about jf17, for whom even now we are purchasing targetting pod.
If we can get 36 mirages for 1 billion dollars, with weapons package, it will give us a great boost

My friend who is a Mirage pilot told me its better in ground role then block 52.

Then ask your friend that why did pakistan used f16s in zarb e azb instead of Mirages if they are so good in ground role.

As an Indian, I'm not happy with all those expensive toys, but anything India produces on its own from scrath.. From Engine to Radar, from Mission computers to A2A missiles.. We also have achieved a considereable amount of know hows from Tejas project.. Now focus should be take it further towards 100% indegenisation..

Lol, No offense mate, but you should really educate yourself...India doesn't produce engines..Heck even China is struggling..!

Well, SOM is a compact and next generation cruise missile that can be integrated with theJF-17 unlike the Ra'ad. This gives the JF-17 the mainstay of future PAF the ability to fire very potent Stand-off Missikes at IN ships and add an entirely new layer of lethality to PAF's punch. Why shouldn't the PAF go for it?

The Ra'ad is a bulky weapon and neither the JF-17 and F-16s can fire it for different reasons. Unless you think the Ra'ad should be dumped once the Mirages are retired in couple years, it's utility is limited as there's no credible platform to launch it from for now.
