What's new

Punjabi Culture in the subcontinent and beyond….

actually we get confused about race and caste. in Pakistan the background of caste is similar as in India because the culture is same people are same. Those who say, Indian pakistanis are different, it will be wrong. But yes, only the Pathans are Indo greeks due to Greek Invasion.

Bhatiya , bhatti, sandhu, are similar. Where as Bhatt, Butt are same.. It is very confusing now days.

It's wierd to see indian desperation .. Trying to tell us tht we are somehow the same people .. We might have some similar castes etc.. But thts about it.. I doubt you in your country specially Punjab have khattars,Qazalbash, chugtai, sadozai, rind,Khetterans etc etc etc? Pakistani Punjab it's is diverse .. With ppl from every part of the country n even neighbouring countries living n even adopting the punjabi language atleast.

And there was a mention of Gujjars before the 8th century?
Stop kiddin yourself.
@Screambowl

They have been living here since centuries .. From Jhelum region to lahore .. The ones who did migrate are from Jammu .. Forced to migrate in 1947.

Rajputs are just a pure form of Kshatriya. It doesn't matter what specific 'name' different people use for these people. They have always existed in some form or another and somewhat have embraced certain incomers like the hephtalites in their gene-pool it seems. One theory is that rajput just means 'son of a raja' .
Moreover I've heard Indians say that rajputs are just from rajashtan and on this thread somebody was saying that gujjars are from there. Well these seem to be distinctions based on not only genes but occupation/ status etc. Majority don't have to be from rajasthan lol. They have always existed in one form or another and based on their status as pure 'kshatriya' ended up being rajput.

Maybe you are right, he could be Kashmiri gujjar but now his family uses butt surname? It doesnt make sense.

People are getting mad over great gama's origin, he is distantly related to my friends family who are Butt, I am more than 100 % sure that he is from Butt baradari.

so what?
i know my family has been in punjab for 100s of years if not thousands
so we are punjabis

yeah you can say. those who live in Uttar Pradesh they are from there, those live in Maharashtra, they are Marathis. But Gujjar has noting to do with Punjabi culture. The Natives of Punjab are Punjabis.

Rajput means some one from Kingdom. Kshatriya means warrior. There is a difference.

yeah.. but now days gujars are spread throught India and in Punjab in Pak. Originally they are gujrati(ind) Rajasthani

Yes i hear Rajputs mythical origin is Rajasthan, while in Rajasthan only 5 million are Rajputs compared to 80 million rajputs in all over India. And not to forget Punjabi rajputs are nothing like them, these were title given by cunny brahmins.

See i was talking about this, Rajasthan Rajputs origin. Punjabi rajputs are not genetically like them, brahmins gave them these titles.

Rajput origin in South India - Historum - History Forums

I have also read that Jud tribe of pothohar who were ancestors of modern Janjua and Ghakhar (kiani) tribes of salt range were branches of Rathores (rashtrakuta) who migrated from rajasthan to salt range of pothohar , it was them after whom salt range was called Hills of Jud. Man history is very shocking than we think about it, the more you go deeper into history , the more shocking it gets.

India has 29 states with different culture yaar... Pakistan kya comparison karega? You have majority of Punjabis only.

I am not desperate, I am only correcting you that. Caste and race are two different things.

lets start this thread about punjabi culture on both sides of the border and beyond.
i know we all use to be the same before basically so lets concentrate on these point here
-what is a punjabi

- has culture in indian punjab vs pakistan punjab evolved differently?

-where have most of punjabi hindu/sikhs from pakistan moved to in india?

-have punjabi in pakistan vs punjabi in india changed since the partition?

-describe punjabi culture in india vs Pakistan, difference and similarities.

-religious composition of both punjabs and overall religious composition of punjabis.

-baraderis(jatt, gujar, arain, rajput ect.) on both sides of the border

- how have punjabis abroad weather indian or pakistan held on to their punjabi culture?

-pictures from both sides of the border will be appreciated and even pictures of punjabis from abroad following their culture.

please lets keep politics and religion (except the composition) out of this.
tag any indian or pakistani punjabis.
all are welcome to discuss this weather your punjabi or not.

please pick one of the points and lets start discussing lol!!!
-culture has differences because of the influence of religion on culture.
-baradari on indian side consists of jatts, few rajputs and almost negligible amount of gujjars which is weird since since areas to the west of east punjab and to the east have plenty of gujjars. Also large percent of SC in indian punjab.
-most of the rural sikhs from west punjab settled in east punjab except those from sheikhupura and gujaranwala who were settled in karnal. Urban hindu and sikhs settled in delhi in large numbers( delhi at one time had as many lahoris as lahore)
-punjabis from east tend to hold on to their traditions more because sikhs are essential punjabis whereas i have personally noticed that those from west consider being muslim as being above their punjabi identity

Its possible few of them indeed migrated from Rajasthan, not enough to completly change genetic makeup of punjabi rajputs.

Yes they were kashatriaya but of mostly south indian ruling dynasties origin who filled the power vaccum in Rajasthan/Gujarat areas after the northern kashatriyas were entirely wiped out or took to trade as a profession like punjabi khatris.
